Sorry for the bad picture, blame my phone!

Saw/Bought this in Toys R Us today (Lakeside)...

It's called Power Play by Playvision, was only £2.99 and thats not a sale price. It has 49 games built in, all seem to be NES clones (track and field etc). Comes with 2 controllers and AC adapter and TV leads, can also take batteries.

They have loads in stock and dont see why other Toys R Us wont have them. Not on website tho.

Good value and good stocking filler.

For those retro fans it appears to have a famicom port on the back (i have bought a similar one before that also did), and the second controller connects by a (old) standard joystick port so make take megadrive pads etc

Enjoy!

which famicom port? there are many.

there are? the one the games go in! the one thats about half the size of a NES cart. Again i'm assuming this as the port has no other use and i;ve had a similar one before that played famicom games

ah cartrige slot..... not controller port, video port, sound port, coax port or power port.:whistling: how can the port be half the size but still play nes games. do you have to cut them down?
#7
famicom carts are smaller than NES carts, the actual board bit that sticks out is about half the size.

thanks jon ... appreciate your efforts :-)

famicom was the american/jap version of the super nintendo. their carts were slightly smaller than the NES, but wider. u sure it takes these carts?
#11
yeah the carts were same kinda size as megadrive, its quite common on things like this, they're called famiclones

not super famicom tho (SNES), famicom (jap NES)

i havent tested it as the only 2 jap carts i have are in the loft, but i'd go as far as to say i'm 90% certain as i have another similar type thing in the loft that was shaped like an N64 pad and played them

i;d say get it for whats on there and if it does work its a great extra eh

this is a list of similar things....

http://famiclone.emucamp.com/famiclones.htm

the power joy is the other one i have, as you can see it takes carts, this is incredibly similar except the controller 1 is similar to the pac-man plug and plays that have been released and controller 2 looks like the one in the top left here.... http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ab443/power_player.htm

which as you can see is also called power player!

Ok there seems to be some confusion regarding the Cartridge slot on this thing so let’s clarify!

This particular item has a port so that NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) cartridges as it is known as in the UK and the US can be played, the FAMICOM that some people have referred to is in fact the Japanese version of the NES and has a completely different style of cartridge to both the UK & the US NES (which are the same) so confirmation would be needed as to which version or versions it is compatible with!

SUPER NINTENDO cart's will not be compatible with this system neither will its Japanese counterpart the SUPER FAMICOM!

Hope this helps!

it's 100% not a NES slot, the cart board bit on a NES cart is too long, it was the first thing i tried as i have a few knocking about

It's definatley a Famicom (JAP-nes) cart slot, i'll dig the games out the loft tonight and give it a whirl.

I may have to pop back to Lakeside this week if anyone wants one

yeah they have a poker plug and play too for £1.99! was tempted to get a few of those for my mates, can't complain at that price!

Excellent JB I had my suspicions that it might be Famicom, unfortunately for most people this makes this feature somewhat redundant!

But hey what do you want for a couple of quid; just enjoy what’s on it!

Had a look in the Croydon/Purley Way branch & couldn't find it - The staff had never heard of it either! :-(

Just did an ebay search on Famicom. There's a couple of guys who specialise in these things.....

Didn't know anything about Famicom (you can tell, I'm not a big gamer)

But as a game toy for the kids stockings, I think this is absolutely ideal!

famicom stands for family computer & is the japanese version of the NES. so you can play famicom games on it or do what i did and get a converter off ebay for about £8 & then play uk NES games!
