Handy item. Much better than constantly unplugging.
#2
this looks useful. Can't go wrong for that price.
#3
Nice one - looks like a very handy gadget. Just ordered, cheers!
#4
Mine's plugged into an individually switched 4 way adapter
#5
am i missing something but why would i want to switch off power rather than just pressing power button on front of console or switch at mains ???
#6
kareandy, you're not missing anything. The front button is only stand-by but some peoples' mains switch can be well out of reach.
#7
Good price if you actually receive it at all....
My order was dispatched about 6 weeks a go. I'm still waiting to receive it... Postman from HK must be walking it.
#8
o i see if its behind a unit or something(dont know what the smiley is now for redfaced/ embarrassed)

PS3 Slim Standby Power consumption = 0.36W (source: http://www.gamezine.co.uk/news-story/2009/8/26/ps3-slim-power-reduction-closer-to-50-update ).

0.36W * 24 * 365 = 3.1536 KWh/year

Assuming a (rather high) unit cost of 10p that's just under 32p/year. £2.46/0.32 = This could pay for itself in just 7.8 years! I don't own a PS3 but if I did then I'd use the standby button!

jezcooke, some owners of a PS3 need to completely power off their system to use certain "dongles" :)

Heh heh, OK fair enough then, maybe that's why Sony left the switch off the slim version then, just to make it that little bit more inconvenient! ;-)
#13
Actually since there are only two wires in the PS3 lead it should be feasible to cut it and wire in a simple light switch, obtainable at B&Q for a quid or so, or cannibalized off an old bedside light, even...
#14
This is great. Not normally too bothered about things beinng left on standby, but my bloody cat keeps stading on the PS button when I leave the controller on the table.

Standby is not an issue, but it being on all night is.

Just switch it off at the plug and don't be lazy, I think it's a good idea anyway
#16
designed for jail breakers
#17
I don't understand why you don't use the switch at the mains

I can't get to the switches unless I pull out my TV unit...

You can buy a pack of 3 remote controlled sockets with a remote control from Asda for the price of this switch. Hardly makes sense.
#20
Can this be used with any figure of eight socket or is it a special fit for the PS3

Post the deal then, I'd be interested in buying for other sockets around the house.

Thanks for the above advise - didn't realise the the ps3 went into standy when powered down so just re-wired so saved myself the above and pence throughout the year :)

You cant buy a three pack of those sockets for £2.50. £5 yes but not £2.50
#24
Slim PS3 Jailbreak users are using this switch to easily switch their Slim off and on for the hack to work.

But those consume power all the time, just like a games console left on standby.

Unfortunately you can - if it's from DX and connects to the mains it'll probably burn your house down. :(
#27
Yes this is designed to be used with a p3go. I can see why some other non jailbreak users could want one as well though and the price seems good.

Ordered thanks, Hopefully this will stop my 1 year old son switching it on every time he gets hold of the contoller or notices the red light on the front of the console..also, just checked ebay and can't find these anywhere so even better value!
#32
Most people are missing the point of this item.
#33
seems like a good device, certainly miss having one on my slim.....would consider getting 1 but I really don't trust DX now after the totally muck up my last order.

I'm sure there's another switch you can press to turn it off, pretty sure its on the other side of the power lead next to the plug. Silly
