Review here:-

I've just ordered it. Currently got a Radeon X1950, so I'm hoping for a decent
speed increase.:!:

a) Google Toms Hardware and look at the VGA charts
b) No, 2 of these have to be used in crossfire.

Is this better than 2x8800 GTS in SLI? I ask because I was thinking of buying a secondhand 8800 GTS on fleabay. They cost around £50.
#9
that will depend on the game, if a game is really well configured to run SLI the 8800GTS x 2 may be quicker, but not all games do.

i personally would without hesitation go for the 4870 over a 2 old card solution. most games will run better, and it will use much less power, and generate less heat.

you would also get £40 for your old card i expect.

I recommend checking that your PSU can handle this card. A friend of mine blew his 500w Tagan PSU after adding one of these to his system without checking. ATI have quite a long list of recommended PSU's although obviously there are others that will work fine with it, just be sure to check first.

Just ordered thanks very much! Should be a nice upgrade from an 8800GT.

You can get an idea of whether you have a big enough power supply by using Antec's PSU calculator.

jelli : Yea from what I have heard this card would be a great choice from an 8800 (which i currently have)
Hopefully if I get my RMA sorted for it (its about 91 celcius idle.....) I can get one of these, cant wait!

Compared with a 9800GTX+ & 9800GTX at various settings/resolutions: 3DMark, FC2, TLM, Fallout3, FEAR2, Endwar, L4D, HAWX

Main page of the benchmarks list to choose other cards to compare.

Oh! And welcome to HUKD :)

watch out for this one, it doesn't come with a ati dvi to hdmi adaptor, even though customer services told me it did. these adaptors are special ones which tell the card to output the sound over the dvi port. normal dvi to hdmi adaptor do not output sound due to them not having the inbeded ati chip inside the adaptor.

now to get hold of one of the special adaptors your looking at around 10-12 on flee bay. which brings this card in at 120 if you need hdmi output. if you don't its no big deal.
