I doubt if $0.6 daily is worth the electricity bill, I was barely breaking even on LTC months ago when they were $10 each. Good for gaming though. :)

Is that light coin?
If so then things have changed a LOT since I last did light coin. I was getting a lot more than that on an old hd6970 at stock.

Its been a while so maybe im not aware of some big changes in last 12 months.
#6
I can remember for sure though that I was getting about 1.2ltc a week on that stock 6970.
#7
Wow. what a change in ltc value in last 12 months. Just had a quick google to see whats up. Shocked at the prices, glad I cashed out when I did. I was getting £12-17 per ltc at the time.

Obviously you would never break even at current value. What we all mining note anyway?

Yeah, difficulty jumped a lot since then.

I was mining it when it was 3 digits, that was fun. :)

Better off folding, no money involved but you get a warm fuzzy feeling that your doing something good with all that expensive technology.
#10
great!! cheers!!
#11
Couldn't of sold my 2 x r9 290's that I used to use for mining at a better time woooop!

On another note these cards are absolute beasts.
#13
I am massively in need of an upgrade, this couldn't of came at a worse time. XD
Other then that great deal
This card looks amazing.
#14
not a bad price, cheers
#15

No games with amazon though...

Ocuk way to go 4 free games ;)
#16
What's with the Amazon photos?
#17
I have this card, HIGHLY recommend. Aggressively over clocked out of the box and with 53% fan speed, rarely breaks 60c on load. Do be aware, do not buy from Amazon, make sure to buy from over clockers because they have a deal with power color in that they deal with warranty for them here in the UK.

Foldingcoin seems to be good

are these rebadged 7970's ? or is that the 280's ?
#20
Great card. Overclocks well, not too noisy, hovers around 70c when overclocked to the max. Had a few driver issues though over the year iIve owned it.
#21
It's showing up as £227.99 on the link
#22
it was £199 about an hour ago, now when i open the link it is indeed higher again! pity!
#23
This card is very noise on load even on "quiet" mode I had one and returned it soon after.

The 280X is the 7970. The 280 is a 7950. The 290 and 290X are a completely new GPU.

Thanks for that, clears up the new line for me. I've always gone red and am looking more towards the gtx this time. Would the 970 be better? Is only slightly more but uses a lot less power.
#27
I've had both the 280x and 290 and will definitely be going for an nvidia card next time around. The lack of adaptive v sync without downloading Radeon pro is such a pain as many games such as far cry, batman etc need it on or suffer from terrible stuttering. The high power consumption is also a problem as the heat output is very high as is the power bills. Pay the extra and get a 970 imo

It depends on your aims and budget.

A few things to consider... The 290x and the 970 are fairly close in performance, but a major drawback to the 290x is the high power requirement. This can result in high heat and loud noise, but some aftermarket solutions, like the PCS above, do a good job at reducing these.

That being said, the average power consumption per hour of gaming, averaged out through the year, is 5-8 quid per hour.

So if you game 4 hours a day, you would be spending 20 quid more on the 290x.

That being said, you shouldn't decide your card choice solely on power consumption, noise, or temperature.

If you are looking for the best value at the £250 quid price bracket, the 970 will likely be the best option.

I'm guessing you meant to say 290, not 290x?

It is the 290x. But it's the radeon version. So the cooler is abit naf. Can always watercool it.
