These are no good if the grass is long they jam up. Not much good at this time of year, in the summer you can probably use it ok if you mow twice a week and the lawn is nice and flat. If your lawn has bumps this will bottom out on them and you will curse it.

They're not too bad in long grass if you raise the height of cut, mow it once and then lower the cut and go over it again. We have one and my partner gave our lawn its first cut yesterday, he'll mow once a week in summer and the mower copes with this. A common misconception is that because it's hand propelled it'll be hard work, it's not at all. Also, there's no trailing wires to worry about.

As you say, the lawn does need to free from bumps and dips, but it'll mow a sloped lawn. It doesn't do too well with wet grass though.

The beauty of the cylinder mower is that it cuts the grass between two contacting blades, whereas a rotary mower just rips the grass off as it passes quickly over it, so the cylinder mower gives a much neater finish.

Yes cylinder mowers do give a better cut. But I have one like this and it's only really good if you can pick up speed on a long straight section of lawn. And if the lawn is flat.

It cuts our sloped lawn perfectly, my partner's a greenkeeper so he knows his stuff :)

Thanks OP
Picked mine up today, thought it was going to be a plastic body, but its metal and a nice dark green, feels very good quality, especially for the price. I dont know if they have given me the more expensive model by mistake. Although it does say reduced from £34.99 originally.
Now we don't have to get the old flymo out with all the hassle of cable to cut the front lawn!
