been meaning to get one of these for my spare drive for ages. thanks op.
#7
Would this be hub powered?

Edit: Sorry, ignore me, it is. I think I may just get one of these as I'll be looking to add a second usb disk to my NAS at some point.
#8
Am I right in saying this would be compatible with my old PS3 drive?
#9
Hot. I've got a 20GB drive from my Xbox 360 lying about after I swapped it out for a 120GB. Get your PS3 drive slung into one.

I bought one of these enclosures (black) from Play and it arrived yesterday. I had replaced the 120GB HD in my MacBook with a 500GB one which I got from eBuyer and I didn't want to waste the old HD. It took about five minutes to fit the old HD into its new enclosure and 'hey presto' I now have a 120GB external HD for about £7. Not a bad deal in my opinion. :)
Voted hot.

Does this come with an mini-USB to USB cable?
#14
DealExtreme do a 2.5'' for approx £3.10: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5999
I know the DE one takes longer and is average quality but am only suggesting an alternative.
#15
Black now out of stock :x
#16
Never mind - no good for a desktop drive then! :(
#17
I know that I am leaving myself open to abuse now but..........

I am guessing that I get one of these, buy any normal SATA internal drive, and I have an external drive for a fraction of the price?

Is that right?

Do I need to be aware of anything else?
#18
Is this made of molded plastic or aluminum?

They're a bit more than "a fraction of the price". Hardly worth it.

Wicked, just ordered the black one, gonna use my old ps3 drive...

Yeah, I agree, if you dont already have a drive kicking about for example if you've upgraded your PS3 drive, its better to just get an external drive as it will be better made. I managed to get a compact Iomega 250GB drive for £40.00 from Tesco, still good for all those drives that are currently sitting in peoples drawers!!

Needs to be a 2.5" (laptop drive) rather than a 3.5" desktop drive, laptop drives tend to cost a bit more, so may be better buying an external drive outright f you dont already have a drive...

******, both black and whote now seem to be oos :-(

Not having a go, but I bought one of these a few months back. Its sitting on my desk gathering dust as its completely useless; too slow for any serious file transferring, and I could only get it to work on my own PC (didnt work on office PC/mac, nor other home computers), so using it as a mobile device was pointless.

Does anyone know where I can get a similar one for a 3.5" drive?
#34
i have one and they are cheap and nasty, but well worth the money if you have a spare hd like i did, so heat added good find
#35
only pink left in stock

Been telling myself I'd get one for a while now, but I was getting confused as to which one was right, this one looks pretty good!

I actually bought that exact same one around 8 months ago. Not a single problem so far. So far It has worked on every PC I have tried. The slow speed could be due to your HDD as well.
They could have made the USB cable slightly longer but overall, I would give it 4.5/5.

Does this have an external power supply?
#39
No, it's USB powered as it's a [laptop] 2.5" sized hard drive enclosure.

Only 'desktop [3.5"] drives need an external mains powered source.
#40
Will these run a Hitachi Travelstar HD i have out of a defunct laptop? Looking at the measurements it seems my drive is wider than the Enclosure.

Thx for any advice :)
