I'm in the PS3 only Beta and if you dont buy this game but like FPS then you are stark raving mad . I have only had access since Thursday but have already put as many hours into it as MW2 . It's still an early beta (game is out in March) but its brilliant .
I pre-ordered the game back in August for 29.99 from GAME , but I may take up this offer and get it on PC too because they usually have loads of Mods etc and ...well its ..... Battlefield.

I wish they would just go back to the £17.99 price - I used to buy a couple of games a month at that price - in the last year i've only bought 5 games and only one of them at £24.99.

I generally hold off now, but by the time they drop in price i've forgotten about them and don't buy at all. If there are others doing the same as me, it seems like their business model of upping the price isn't really working - just look at the play.com Top 100 on any format, and it's clear to see that with the exception of MW2, all of the games at the top of the list are heavily discounted.

Limited editions with unlocks which are already coded are just a con IMO

 one of the reasons i buy keys unless its a special edition, the other reason being too many games for the pc are terrible console ports and im not paying over the top prices for some mediocre software, id rather download and try before i buy.

pre ordered hopefully between now and march a better deal will come up

Loved the 1st bad company. Characters were so funny, and not to mention the amazing gameplay.
#7
I have played BF2 since the demo came out and love it. Is this going to be similar or should I wait for BF3 (will there even be one?)
#8
I'm a BF2 fan also, great game!
Here's a link to some video of BC beta game play footage (on PS3's). http://www.thekoalition.com/battlefield-bad-company-2-beta-gameplay/

As far as I know Bad Company 2 will support up to 24 players, 12 players on each team. I really don't know if there will be a BF3, if there will be then perhaps it will support more players?
#9
There will be a BF3 on the PC, will just take a little while.
#10
Have a PS3 but haven't bothered downloading the beta demo yet.

BF series started on the PC (we all know PC does FPS titles best) and that's where it should end.

BF3 will be a PC exclusive and will shine.

i thought i saw it cheaper on hukd? guess must of expired

It looks fantastic, thanks for the link. Im a BF2 /2142 fan and this looks to be along the same lines. I dont see why they would do a BF3 as well?

You what? :w00t:

Have you actually played it.......................?
#17
I too am playing the beta and it is sweet although I keep getting shot. Very few minor issues but I'm not a graphics mean everything sort of guy.

Really enjoyed the first one and thought the characters/story was funny.
Have to say that the games scene is great at the moment, all these free (naturally) betas and cheap games.

I'm also a seasoned, 4 year veteran Major Genral in BF2 (in 20 hours until final promotion to Lieutenant General) and have invested a lot of time into the game. However, I didn't play the original Bad Company as it was a console only game and FPS games with a joypad are simply wrong.

BC2 on the PC? Hmm. I reckon:

It'll be a direct port from the console - they never work well
Online multiplayer will be limited to whatever a console can deal with i.e. limited numbers
I hate the idea of buying unlocks ... any self respecting FPS player should earn them like I have to!

Besides, I have a horrible feeling that DICE still won't have learned from the mistakes they made in BF2 such as sqauds of self-healing medics and support staff that never run out of ammo who can spam grenades ... and don't get me started on how long it takes to get repair points!

Yet even with it's faults, I still play the flippin' game!

I was running BF2 fine on Vista 32bit - and it also works well on Windows 7 32bit, you just gotta install and patch it in the right order:

Install BF2 from the DVD
Install Special Forces (if you have it)
Install Patch1.41
Install Patch 1.50

And you should be ready for me to insert an Anti Tank shell inbetween your bum cheeks! :p :w00t:

Thanks you two, yet another solution to try. Go on then, I will give it one last go (after about a dozen failed attempts and many evenings wasted with forum after forum trying to solve the problems). I'll let you know how I get on.

Sorry to hijack this thread for BF2 support but do I want the incremental 1.41 and 1.50's or the full patches? Also, do you know if its the same process for 2142 as I already have some of the downloads for that so I may be able to test it more quickly.

It looks like you'll need the 1.41 patch installed first then the 1.50 patch.
You will need Battlefield 2 updated to v1.41 before you can install this update (get the full 1.41 update from http://www.fileplay.net/file/249/battlefield-2-patch-v1-41-full-client-patch):

You need the full 1.41 if you have the old version of the game but the new complete collection has it on the disc. You also need the full 1.50 whatever patch you have (they only do the 1.50 full I think?)

Thanks guys, they are downloading as I type but it looks like I will be waiting until tomorrow for the downloads to complete and then I am away for a couple of days. Something to try later in the week I will let you know if it has finally worked.

You may track me down as King_Longy. If you fancy your chances. I will be pretty rusty though so im bound to get my ass handed to me!

Rusty.... I'm 47 years old and struggle to keep up with the young guns, still a great game though.

I was a long term BF42 BFV BF2 BF2142 Player on the PC too mate . The PC just eventually couldnt play the latest games , it was cheaper to get a PS3 than upgrade and I have to say I was also dead against FPS on console BUT after a month it was no problem whatsoever to use the gamepad .
#32
I've tried playing with my kids on the 360 but it's just not natural to play a FPS this way.

The field of view (to me) seems restricted, it feels too narrow? Maybe I'm spoilt with a 23in wide screen monitor but I felt the same way on a 17in screen. FPS games on the PC feel 'wider'. As for the joypad, Urgh! The slow clunky movement around the screen is nowhere near as fast or as accurate as a mouse. If it were possible, I'd love to pit the best FPS console gamers in the world against a bunch of Average Joe's with a PC, keyboard and mouse. I'd be willing to bet that the Joe's would win everytime as their control method is so much better than a joypad.
#33
Do they not have auto aim on most console FPSs though? So the console people would have that as an advantage.
#34
Auto-Aim? How lame is that?!
#35
No there isn't Auto-Aim on console FPS, jesus christ.

Edit: Also, you'd be surprised how accurate you become with a console controller after years of using it - some people are unbelievably good with them.

This game is going to be awesome. Modern warfare 2 and L4D2 just going to keep me going till this bad boy comes out. I spent hundreds of hours of my gap year playing BF2 on PC and PC version rules i.e. using mouse & keyboard, better manual dexterity.
#38
FPS on consoles is terrible and i mean shockingly terrible , i have the ps3, 360 and wii along with my gaming pc , the pc handles FPS the best and most accurate way. Unfortunately FPS is being killed slowly by the console kiddies who think a joypad and an oversized hitbox/spray area makes them good gamers.

BF2 is still my favourite game , plays on win 7 no probs

you only become accurate because the console is aiming for you

Was it the first COD MW that you could play PC vs XBOX 360 and the 360 had the advantage of the auto aim/oversized hitbox/spray area?
#40
Heat and Rep added op nice find!

Im a Bf2 player aswell,
i have a 360 with bad company 1, just got it because i heard the story was good, but the aiming has nothing on my gaming pc.
Laser mouse and Gaming keyboard beat controller anyday. Even if consoles have aim assist.
