Half life 2 rules, hope episode 2 is longer than ep 1 was though (^_^)
#2
Voted hot, great value for money and the best price I've seen, I'll be getting the console version though.

Voted hot. £23 is great value for all these games. I'm personally looking forward to TF2. The hours i spent on dustbowl on TFC. Ahh..
#4
Yeah, I just wish they had decided to go ahead and release the originally planned black box which contained only the three new games as I'm having to buy HL2 and episode 1 again. Still with a price like this you cant really moan
#5
I thought that HL2 was originally a dvd title? How come we get this plus the rest on a cd? Doesn't involve long steam downloads does it??
Hope I'm wrong, or HMV are calling it a cd when it is a dvd........

I'm sure its just a mistake by VM - all the games will be on a DVD although you dont necessarily need to install them off the DVD as once you have the games registered to your steam account you can download them but that would be pretty pointless ;-)

I will pay you £2 for the serial for Episode 1 if you like (each game comes on a separate serial, so you can use each on a different account if you like)

Nice of you to offer, maybe I'll PM you back when I get it
Thanks

Why the cold? Seems like cheap deal for an amazing boxset to me.

HL2 was unbelievable when I first played it! But HL2 Episode 1 I got bored with and haven't even finished it yet.

I don't quite understand why either, unless someone else has seen a better price?

Just wondering the same thing, I wish people would say why they vote stuff cold.

Brilliant deal. Forget Halo 3, this is what im waiting for.

After 10% off and Virgin credit card [which I have applied for now] - if they are stackable, this would work out about £19ish.

Heated + Repped OP.

Im sure you can buy the game on its own, this is just a box set for those who haven't got HL2 or HL2:E1 yet.

I am looking forward to Portal more than Episode 2!

You can download the contents of The Black Box from Steam - of course you wont have any of the discs though.

Actually you probably can't :-(

The package will be available at retail stores and through Steam (Valve's content delivery system) for direct download. A retail copy of Episode Two will reportedly not be available separately from the packages.

But I bought Ep 1 through Steam so at least now I'll have a disc to install it from should I need to.

Is there a difficulty setting for this game or any sort of help?

i'm alright at games but i tend to give them up if they turn into a chore instead of entertainment. I hear its a great game/experience but i dont want to work too hard for it

The Black Box will still be available on Steam.

They only cancelled the retail version. That article goes on to explain you will be able to buy the Black Box via Steam. This was confirmed by Doug Lombardi @ Valve.

Team fortress 2 is gonna be awesome, +hot.

Episode 3 is the next and last one, coming out sometimes in 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_2:_Episode_Three).
Since I already have HL2 & Ep1, I guess I'll just wait and buy the complete package (HL2,Ep1,Ep2,Ep3) on DVD when it comes out!

HL2:EP2 should have 3 levels of difficulty, as with the previous episode and HL2 itself. TF2 will have variable difficulty, depending on who you play against online. Portal is a puzzle game, so I'm not sure you could have a difficulty level for that.

If i was to purchase this orange box off steam right now, would I be able to download the available content straight away before episode 2 and TF2 are released?

Valve are pretty bad with their dates, so expect it to come out in 2009.

Yes, you will be able to play the games that have already been released. If you've not played any of them before then it'll fill up the time between now and when Ep2 does arrive so go for it :)

There is usually a pre-load period before Valve games are released on Steam. The games would then be decrypted and available for play on the release date.

Edit: HL2 and HL2:EP1 should be available immediately, as Cuddy said.

LOL Mr-Brett, just flicking thru this post and noticed you've used the "Murray" Skull from Monkey Island 3 as your Avatar :)

I've played HL2 and used to play TFC to death. Haven't played EP1 yet so I may have a crack at it.

What I am asking is - Is the orange Box actually available to buy as a package (or pre-order) from steam at the moment? And If so, does it allow you to get the game content that is already available? Or is this currently only available for pre-order through retail?

I've just logged into Steam and looked through their store and the Orange Box isn't in their catalog yet. Most gaming websites suggest and Oct 19th release and in the past Valve usually put the game up about a week before release for pre-ordering thru steam so you could try then.

When the pre-order does become available thru steam and you purchase it, then you can play the already released titles and wait for Ep2 a week or so later.

Voted hot, it's a shame my PC won't run them.

Will wait for the console version.

I just want to play TF2!
#34
Thanks very much for the info.

I am at work so unable to look at the details but out of interest, how much is EP1 standalone?

Yup, TF2 for me too. I hope it doesn't disappoint like TFC did. Now the original Team Fortress (QWTF on quake engine) was awesome and I spent many years playing this in clan leagues.

It's priced at $9.95 USD, when purchased through Steam, so with the current exchange rate it's approx £5 GBP but you have to add VAT to that (which does not happen until you get through to checkout) so therefore -> roughly £5.88.

Here's the link you can check later after work...

Does this game include Half Life 2 Deathmatch?

Should do. Its part of HL2.

Gosh, been ages since I played this game. Back in 1998/99, I used to play HL deathmatch on my Pentium 120Mhz, I was the crowbar king

Then TFC and CS came along, and I played DoD.

Coming upto 10yr anniversary!

Unless they've altered it, you'll be able to pass (or sell) the codes for the games you already have onto someone else.
