I'm not totally convinced about the 3DS yet, I mean it sounds good but how do any of you know the 3D screen is going to be any good on it etc without waiting to actually see it first hand?

Not voted cold, just want some opinions on it

First of all thanks lol. To be honest I'm not that convinced either to be honest I would rather prefer a normal Nintendo DS XL in comparison to this, but I guess because its probably the first 3D handheld console its generating some interest. However, I understand your point and all this stuff about the screen being dangerous for kids when they use it too long or what not.

Early reviews i've read are pretty good.

Its not like the 3D you get in films with things leaping out at you but more like depth perception.

Good price, thanks OP :D

You know that the 3D screen is going to be good because of the huge selection of objective reviewers, and critics who have seen it first-hand at conventions, such as the recent one in Amsterdam, and who have commented, very optimisticly, on their respective websites how well it works, and how much it adds to the game/s.

There are upcoming public events in the UK where you'll be able to try the 3DS for yourself as well.

"Screen being dangerous for kids" Don't get pulled in by the media's neccesity to make a drama out of everything...the 3D aspect of the console is only detrimental to under-six year old's eye-sight, and this would only occur after prolonged play on the said console.

This is not to say that under-sixes can't use the console though, as there are "parental controls" which basically means the parent can set a password to prevent use of the 3D aspect of the console, thus making all of the 3DS games perfectly playble for your little ones.

Yeah, got an invite to one from HMV. My 8 year old has over £200 saved from Xmas and his last 2 birthdays 'cos he knew this was coming. Unfortunately the event is limited to over 18s only!

Only thing I've ever pre-ordered with them (Halo Reach) turned up on time. Have a feeling some people have had bad experiences but if you order from any online site you're taking a gamble - but you pay less so that's why people do it... also you get the chance of getting the item a day before general release as they often send out early but not sure if that'll be the same with consoles...

Yes Black Ops arrived 2 days late, I didnt mind but if you really want one of these for the release date you might be safer picking a reserved one up from a deal offline?

Ohh wow, I had hadn't heard about this convention in Amsterdam, but looking up at it, it seems the reviews have been positive as you say. If as you say there will be public events in the UK that is an added bonus, I would rather try it before hand before I purchase. Many thanks :)

tesco (and direct) and tesco entertainment are 2 different companies
tesco ent is the hut group same as a loads others

Many thanks for the responses :) I'd rather avoid the Hut (and Tesco tbh), I have had issues in the past with their entertainment site. Not pre-orders, but games. Now that Sainsbury's almost matches this deal I might go for that - tried calling my local store but they couldn't confirm they were taking pre-orders in store. Shame, never used their entertainment site so not sure how reliable they are either.

Now if Game drop their instore pre order price I'd go there, but for a £20 saving I'm happy to take a little risk on getting it a day or 2 late.

Hmm - maybe I'll give Sainsbury's entertainment a miss then after the recent fiascos!

Never had a preorder arrive on time yet from tesco although doesnt bother me as the only time I have bought stuff from tesco is when they have special preorder discounts. Would buy elsewhere if I wanted on launch day.

I still think this is going to come down more in price though

When do Tesco debit your money? On dispatch or on completing checkout?

wow i cant believe this question is still asked by people on a seemingly hourly basis.

tesco, asda, zavvi, amazon, hmv, the hut, play, game, gamestation etc, etc, etc all charge only on despatch.

infact the only site i use that charges right away is silvervision.co.uk so unless you buy wrestling dvds from them, you will never be charged anywhere up front.

i don't think it will, look at the ds lite and wii, they still haven't dropped in price (much). People said kinect wouldn't sell and would drop in price at £129, but that has remained the same and sold very well.

If people will pay £500 for an ipad i think these will fly off shelves. You will be waiting a long time for a price drop, or at most these might come down to about £170 if someone does a deal.

Already have the DSi and dont see the need to upgrade to 3D, not at that price. And especially as it is much cheaper in the USA.They should do the upgrade for half price like they did with the DSi last time, then I would maybe have thought about it. As for the iPad I just dont get the hype around it.

This isn't a new version of the DS like the DSi. This is a whole new console. Similar to when the original DS came out after all those Gameboys

If they look "As good" as the PS3 .. you think that is a good thing on a portable screen ..they can be the best graphics in the world but a screen that size would make them nothing better tahn the psp1..its not about graphics on portables its about gameplay and the 3DS brings something new to that the PSP2 does not

That's a great point. Apart from the fact that 3D is a huge selling point these days, this must otherwise be a very hard console to market. I've seen countless screenshots and videos of upcoming 3DS games and, yes, the graphics look great, better than the DS, of course, but that's to be expected - it's just progress. A new console will have higher specifications that a previous console and so be capable of better graphics. Games like Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear Solid 3 look excellent, and people will certainly be interested in playing handheld versions of them. But no amount of marketing can give you a taste of the main feature of the console - 3D. Take a screenshot of a 3D game and put it online and what do people see? A 2D image. So unless they're doing special screenshots and videos for 3D monitors and TVs (that not everyone will be able to see), hands-on experience is the only way to see what it's like. Similarly, when the DS came out, no amount of screenshots or videos of gameplay could show what it was like to control a game over 2 screens using a stylus and buttons at the same time, but at least they could show a video of someone playing a game to illustrate it. I imagine their marketing campaign for the 3DS will involve a lot of hands-on demonstrations and events, and pods installed in game shops for people to try.

As well as the 3D, I'm interested in seeing features like the augmented reality games in action.
