Available instore only now.

Pre-order your PS3 for only £100 down payment, the rest on arrival.

Having spoken to the store they say that they are guaranteeing a PS3 on launch date (currently March 07) to anyone who pays the £100 pre-order. They are taking the money now and are quickly running out of requests.

Date to order is up to middle Feb or until they have run out of available spots.

The whisper heard by the store is that Sony will soon announce that the March release will be the only one until closer to Christmas, so basically once they have sold out in March (which will be the day of release) there are no more until the Christmas rush. May want to take that with a pinch of salt though.

Sorry, forgot to mention that this is the 60G version and the RRP Choices are saying is around the £450 mark all in. They say you still owe £350 subject to change on the receipt.

Too good a deal to miss in my opinion.

In store only.

Need to run down there and stick your name down.

I've just put mine down in the Hunts Cross branch in Speke, Liverpool.

ps3 only, £300,000, yey
#4
Do we have the model info (60gb I assume) and bundle details. Are they shipping with games or is it the system on it's own, and how much do they want for it in total?
#5
This is a blatant attempt to get people signed up asap as PS3s are not selling well at all in the US with most stores having shelves full left gathering dust while there are shortages of both the 360 and moreso the Wii! There will not be the usual ebay rush with the PS3 as there has been with other consoles, they are readily available on ebay.com now and are not fetching ridiculous prices! My advice..........save your £100 now and wait and see whether a PS3 is worth it on release, the pre-order does nothing for you other than rob you of £100!!!!
#6
I don't think it's a case of saving £100, your gunna have to pay £100 + about another £300 at some point to get one anyway so your hardly being robbed.

As for it not being in great demand, I guess time will tell.
#7
I'm not quite sure where you are getting your info from, but the PS3 is completely sold out in the USA and Japan and has been for a while. As for the UK, Play.com has been taking PS3 pre-orders for months, and when i called up to pre-order mine in September, they had already taken thousands of pre-orders even by that point, so you'll find them very hard to come by in this country, so this deal is well worth it.

A warm welcome to HotUKDeals mariosarno! :)

Thanks emma! Long time reader, first time poster. Hopefully will help to contribute once i stumble on some fantastic deal that everyone else seems able to find!

I would wait to be honest, looking at the recent reports:-

Here..http://www.gametrailers.com/viewnews.php?id=3961

and here..http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/20/ny-times-the-ps3-isnt-that-great/

It looks like it's going to be in plentifull supply (unlike the Wii) until it drops in price and gets a lot more exclusive titles. I know it's a box with a well known brand name on it, but with HD DVD doing so well and a layout of about £500 (once you've bought a game for it) I would hold on.
#11
Actually the HD-DVD add on isn't doing that well, they've sold around 150,000 compared to 900,000 Blu Ray enabled PS3s. Blu Ray already have more titles available and the exclusivity deal that HD-DVD has with Universal is about to run out. So personally i won't be buying a HD-DVD for my 360 as it could end up being an expensive door stop!

As for the PS3 pre-order, i'll be getting one but will wait till nearer the release before stumping up any cash.

From what i've heard the Best Buy shops in the Joystiq link actually held their stock to sell them all at once- hence it "seems" like there not selling when infact no-one hardly knows there in stock - and when the pic was taken was when they were being sold again.
#13
Oh and Sony have now stated that the price for a 60gig PS3 will be max £380. Whewn the 360 hass all the extras added on seperattly, which the PS3 has built in it actually adds up more than the PS3 price.

there are other ways of playing a BlueRay and HD DVD discs you know

HD DVD is outselling BlueRay both media and hardware wise I have read from a few sources. I think that's what the original guy/gal was on about. Not how many PS3s and XBOX 360 HD DVD drives have been sold.
#15
Nah i doubt HD-DVD is outselling Blue-ray, its the other way round i think, but i could be wrong :(

Maybe a link could resolve this before the fanboy inside me will prove you wrong :)

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats have their pros and cons but both formats are here to stay. I don't think there is going to be an outright winner, certainly not in the short term anyway. With games consoles you're getting one or the other at the moment but I don't think that should be the deciding factor when choosing one.

Consoles aside, the smart money will be spent on dual format drives imo.

Yep, got to agree:thumbsup:

my local choices has no pre-orders for it all so i would be first, the guy on the phone said someone from supply told him of it being put back until september..
#19
But Sony only yesterday at CES confirmed the PS3 launch is still on track for a March release.
#20
I also have heard from a friend that it has been put back 'till september but still waiting to find out where he found that from!

But Sony did say we were going to get it on worldwide release day literally a few months before we got shafted so it could change to September still...
#21
any one who cant wait and needs one now i post on another site that can get jap version now for £354 delivered in 3-5 days however buyer is liable for import duty if applied (dont know how much that would be)

personally i dont see the point but for those who must have there is always a way

I found this based on sales via Amazon which is generally a good place to look for sales. I don't have time to find a second info source but I am sure you can use google!

Check out AVFORUMS.com for all the info you need. The problem is that Sony are trying to use the PLAYSTATION name/brand to ram their new format, blu ray down everyones throats, Sony have not won a format war yet!!! People will buy a PS3 because its a games machine that they want, it would not matter if the PS3 games were on VHS people would buy it, the fact its a blu ray player is irrelevant, but the problem is people who only want a games machine are finding the pricetag a bit steep when they can pick up a Wii or a 360 at a fraction of the cost, hence the reason there is not a Wii on any shelves yet it is not difficult to pick up a PS3 online/in USA or Japan.

Hi just back to the offer, I must warn you about Choices 'guarantee'. I know from experience that they were promising Nintendo Wii's (and indeed 360's last year but the Wii is a more recent yard stick) to those who preordered yet stores got very few (single figures per store) thus just be careful. The ONLY high street retailer who has taken and honoured deposits EVERYTIME is GAME. I know people preorder and get machines from other places but many are dissapointed.
Im not trying to kiss GAME's proverbial but simply put they dont oversell and indeed get the largest chunk of the UK allocations of machines. If you are serious about a PS3 then i would suggest waiting until GAME start their preorder system.
Oh and as for March this year.... dont hold your breath ;)

Both will be here to stay, and from what I've read, some companies will be glueing these together (WHE s far) to bring out dual Blu-Ray/HD-DVD compatible discs.

I've just spoken to my local Choices store and was told that there had been only 1 pre-order so far for the PS3, but until the release date is guaranteed and the amount of stock confirmed, no one is guaranteed to get one!! :?

Even tho I'd be 2nd in line, is it worth taking the chance?

TBH after owning a wii since launch im getting quite board of it, yeah its fun swinging your arms about to do stuff, but games designers seem to just be doing stuff with it because they can. Having to jolt the controllers a certain way to do somthing is getting quite annoying when a button press is far easier. Hopefully some better games are due out very soon.

XBOX 360 HD may not be the brick you think it is, as im sure drivers are allready in production for a PS3 linux version (much the same as the 360 controller).

BLU-RAY vs HD-DVD tbh there is another format that will prob win. Downloadable or film on demand. I can see the market for this getting huge over the next few years, BT's 21cn, apple releasing a tv box plus people not knowing what format to go for.

As for pre-ordering the PS3? i shall def be poping into choices this weekend so thanks to the OP!

I too have a wii and an xbox360 and im getting fed up with waving my arms around like an idiot for hours on end (bit like the eye toy on PS2), ive probably lost 10 stonne since the purchase. The Wii is an old console technology with new controler technology its just a gimmik that sucks in the people who would never really think of buying a console, thats why they are selling so well. I know people who have never had or even thought about buying a console untill they saw the wii adverts, and then start ranting on about how cool it is.......ITS NOT! Its fun with your mates for the first week then you just cant be arsed to play it anymore, the novelty wears off BIG TIME.
As for the 360 (noisy, add on city) i bought it as a stop gap to ease the pain of waiting for the PS3 and yes as soon as i have a PS3 both the wii and the 360 will be sold.

Have just spoken to my local choices branch in the hope of pre-ordering over the phone, but they wouldn't have it. So instead, my other half, who works near the store is going to pre-order it for me. :-D

The guy told me that the actual unit will cost £450 and they would need a £30 deposit. Slightly different to the original poster, where they wanted £100 deposit.

Do you think each store sets their own deposit amount? :?
#32
The choices where I ordered mine took £100, and there is a poster in the window saying that the buyer is guaranteed if they stick £100 down. Think I'll take a trip down to the store this evening and take me a picture of this poster incase it doesn't happen!

Well I've done it, only paid £30 deposit, so it's not much of an outlay, until I come to pay the balance!!
