I can't believe I'm seeing Princess Bride and the words "pre order" in the same year, let alone sentence. Inconceivable.

The pq was poor when I watched this on DVD recently, great film cant see much point watching it on blu ray if you have the DVD.

The American blu-ray gets very good reviews (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Princess-Bride-Blu-ray/243/#Review), hopefully the uk version will be just as good!

About time!!! The Americans have had this Blu Ray for around 2 years. Based on all the reviews I've seen they have done a good job on this transfer.

Given how cheap the DVD is (typically <<£5), I actually think £11.99 is VERY expensive. I'll wager that in a couple of months this will be just another heavily discounted "special offer" BluRay and available for half this price......

Great film, but sorry, I think this deal is cold.

It may be an old film but its not a bad price for a blu-ray release. Yes it may be discounted in months to come, as with many other new releases.

Can you link where you found it cheaper if the deal is cold?

Well, that's the killer question isn't it. No I cannot find it offered cheaper anywhere else at the moment, so that must make it a good deal right? In this one sense it is.

Unfortunately, I think life is a bit more complicated than this. I think you have to have a "sense" for what is the right natural price for something, and when you find it cheaper then that's a good deal, and when it's more expensive then it's not.

For whatever reason Princess Bride is deemed a discount DVD. It has been available on DVD for £3 - £5 for several years now. IMO the natural price for the BluRay version of it is therefore £5 - £7, and I doubt it will be too long before it appears on HUKD for that price. I therefore certainly won't be rushing out to buy it at nearly double that price (i.e. £11.99 in this "deal"), and I don't think this price makes it Hot.

If I desperately need to watch Princess Bride in the meantime I will continue watching my 10 year old R1 copy. I daresay almost all the other folks who might want the BluRay version already have it on DVD and could easily do the same....

Note my experience today with Sainsburys Entertainment , a subsidiary of Sainsburys I am told. I pre-ordered a Harry Potter Blu Ray which was meant to be delivered yesterday or today. I rang them to ask why it was not dispatched but "in process". They told me I had pre-ordered "too early" so they could not process my credit card. They would not deliver or process, nor were they going to inform me of the situation and I would have to re-order! I ask you, how can you "order too early" if they offer it as a service???!!!!. I now have to buy at a dearer price...and this will not be from Sainsburys... but at least my kids will get their Blu Ray!

Sainsburys though (not Sainsburys Entertainment) offered £5 on my nectar card which is something and they were perplexed as me by the service and response offered from Guernsey...

....so buyer beware on this deal.

tbh, if everyone voted on what they thought was a good price for something then this website wouldnt really work would it?

Yes it has been available for donkeys on DVD, and thats why its cheap on that format. The blu-ray is a new release, and if people want this improved quality (it sounds like they've done a good transfer) then this is what to buy.

Essentially what you're saying is that any film which has previously been released on DVD should be released nice and cheap on blu-ray. That would be lovely, but where is the incentive for them to even bother releasing the blu-ray version.

Having said all of that, personally I dont tend to re-buy stuff I already have on DVD, but thats not really the issue.
