As you know, Sony have announced that their eagerly anticipated next-gen console; the PlayStation 3 will be on sale from March 23rd 2007* and we are pleased to inform you that HMV stores around the country are now taking pre-orders for the console on a first-come-first-served basis.
The console is priced at £424.99 and a deposit of £100 will be required upon placement of the pre-order.

HMV.co.uk is also pleased to inform you that it will have a limited quantity of consoles available to order online from 9am on Tuesday 20th February. This will again be on a first-come-first-served basis, and your card will be charged only when the console is shipped to you.

The future of Next-Gen gaming is in your hands. Sony's PlayStation 3 is one of the most powerful games consoles ever released. With so many jaw-dropping features, and a line up of some of the most eagerly anticipated games in history, it seems like everyone is ready to experience the PlayStation 3.

Having Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed hard disk drive (HDD) as standard in the console, users will be able to download a variety of contents as well as access on-line games and services over the network. It's also equipped with basic input/output ports and supports a broad range of displays, from conventional NTSC/PAL standard TVs to the latest full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays. For use in living rooms, maximum heat and noise reduction has been achieved with a noise level equivalent to that of the current slim-line PlayStation 2.

With the overwhelming computational power of the Cell processor in the console, PlayStation 3 is capable of playing back content from Blu-ray discs at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps with ease, the maximum bit rate defined in Blu-ray standards. This means that not only will you enjoy the future of gaming on the console, you will also be able to experience the next generation of high definition movies.

The new controller for PS3 has been created by refining and improving the world's most popular PlayStation controller. The controller for PS3 employs a high-precision, highly sensitive six-axis sensing system that is capable of processing all parameters within the controller itself. By applying this technology, it will become possible to freely control the PS3 system. Essentially, the controller knows where it is in a room wave the controller to the left in a driving game for example, and you will steer to the left on the screen.

They've been taking orders in store for two weeks, so I've no idea how much stock they'll have left to sell online.

I'm sure they will have held back stock for the online purchases, otherwise it would be very bad marketing and business practice..... :)

No... 1 million for the whole of europe, 220000 for the UK.

Wouldnt go with HMV as they tried it on with the PSP bundle - rather support another retailer that doesnt try to take the p1ss.

Plus another £5 off (purchases £35 or over) with voucher code WT8747 previously mentioned on hotdeals (expiry 31/03/07)... brings the price down a bit more! Every little helps at this much money! Can't waith for Casino Royale in Full HD 1080p - should be jaw-droppingly beautiful!
