never thought you could mod a gamecube cause it cant do much

As much as I like seeing deals on this forum, it kinda saddens me to see such a wonderfully built and underrated console be sold off even second hand for such a pitiful low amount, any one like myself that has modded one knows the crafting going into building one of these, besides the quirky look, the construction of the GC was pure class.

Resentfully heat added!

Agree 100% - makes some of the other consoles look shoddy.

Of course it can, you can play homebrew games with it, .dol file formats, also play NTSC games on it at full 480P if you are so lucky enough to be able to track down a component cable (rarer than rare though!) and have an earlier version GC that had the digital AV output. So yeah, games with graphics on par with the more successful Wii without a Wii remote gimmick!

Sadly underrated and to be honest, it had far more Class A Nintendo titles than the Wii has currently....last "true" Nintendo philosophy Console I feel.

Also easy to hook up with a car adaptor for the kids for journeys- I think it runs off 12V any way.
A bit easier than playing wii tennis in the back ;)

Spot on, just checked in my retro games console cabinet, it is indeed DC 12V

I though Nintendo converted these into Wii?
Got one of these about 5-6 years ago and still have it, only got about 4 games, hardly ever played it. Only really good game for me was Metriod Prime.

Just about hot at a tenner.
#9
Polygon mad fanboys and "kids" games killed this off. I have a modded PS2 and a modded Cube and the Cube if far better. It's quiter, smaller, built better and has given me far more enjoyment than most consoles.

Actually considering that Nintendo are rehashing some of the GC titles shortly and incorporation the Wii Controller is a testament to the quality of games released for the GC (sadly overlooked by the consumer)

All new WiiPlay titles that were on the GC, Pikmin, Metroid Prime and Mario Tennis....then there are plenty of classic GC titles besides

Metroid Prime 2, Pikmin 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Legend of Zelda :WIndwaker, Eternal Darkness, The complete Resident Evil Series (with much improved graphics), Paper Mario :Thousand year door, Star Fox Adventures, Mario Golf, Mario Kart Doubledash, Mario Superstar Baseball plus plenty more that are not Nintendo exclusives (all of these were besides Resident Evil, but that series is much better than any other port)

Care to rethink?!

the gamecube had about 10 truely good games. the rest can either be had on another console or arent worth playing.

for £10 and £4 a game its a bargain. but dont expect the back catalogue of the ps2.

Just a thought... the gamecube controller can be used on a WII as the classic (wired) controller which cost £10 or more...

Heat added. Such a shame that such a brilliant console failed to take off. Has an amazing catalogue of games available. Great console for a purist gamer I believe, so many exclusives of which so many where rated so highly by expert mags like Edge.

Best Console last gen I had 2 Cubes, sold one just before wii came out kept my best games.
Lets not forget the awesome control pad and the Z button was the let down.

Killer 7 was also a good title I thought it was better than No More Heroes

N64 was Nintendo's daddy console imo

I've recently sold off my consoles - from the Saturn to my 360 with all mod cons. What did I keep? My GC, chipped and with the official component cable. Why? Coz it's ace - Zelda, Res Evil 4, Eternal Darkness, Super Monkey Ball, etc.. and always cheap, everywhere. Nintendo's Dreamcast - underrated classic!

And yes, the Wii is pretty much GC + motion control - with the component cable it looks the best of the last gen machines in HD.

Hot, natch.

I still play my GC to this day. Some class games on it, and it also had brilliant graphics for its time. If your a serious gamer, you'l be happy with ten truly good games on a console. Not a vast back catalogue of relative pap. NOT slating the PS2 in anyway shape or form, but I genuinely believe GTA aside, the Cube provided better entertainment overall. Excellent little console which sat well on the desk with a near perfect controller. Classic games such as Resident Evil 4 were true joys on the Cube. Another thing I liked is the fact that it still works today, silently and perfectly. My cousins PS2 is in about 3 pieces and often requires attention when I'm round playing PES. I also loved Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, genius concept, such fun, its what's so special about Nintendo. PS2 was by far the more successful console, the dvd player helped I reckon and a few of its titles. A vast number of enjoyable games are still available on fleabay, CEX etc for the Cube so this is a top top deal should you want a reliable little console which provides fun when playing games.

I've got 3 cubes - the first I bought just for RE4. The second, a RE4 special edition and the the third - a freebie. Damn I'm a sad old git. Probably shouldn't mention the Dreamcasts...

Hey I got an Amiga 600, 3 Amiga 1200s (2 desktops one with a 68040 processor) and a tower project, a Dreamcast, PS2, Ltd Edition Pearl Gamecube, mainboard swapped with an older revision Gamecube Motherboard with digital AV out, 2 Xbox 1, Gameboy Micro, Nintendo DS Lite, PSP, and 2 Xbox 360s.

I must be an even sadder old git lol.

Xeno GC
Tomthered-
I installed one of these - easy to do.
I have a case to fit full sized DVDR media as well, but I wouldn't bother - easier to get the 8CM disks.
I can also recommend getting the GC broadband adapter if you can get hold of one. Comes in very handy....

As we are all jumping on the bandwagon. I have 3 gamecubes - 1 black, a still sealed pearl console and another silver one. Got a mountain of controllers (official and non) and about 30 games. Metal gear, pikmin 2, burnout 1 and 2, mario sunshine, f zero - even iss2 and ssx tricky felt better on the gamecube than any other console. Controllers are fantastic (wavebird and norm) and the amount of games i still need to get (paper mario and starfox assualt to name just two) show how big the back catalogue of decent games is! Ps2 wise there are only a handful id really care to play again - most were third party EA drivil... the gamecube was heavily supported by nintendo and had games for anyone that appreciated what they were playing.
Sold my gamecube to buy a wii then realised i only played gamecube games anyway so sold it and bought the cubes again! managed to get a componant cable and playing on a projector with it is awesome (trying to complete pikmin 2 at the moment!). Just need to find a freeloader and some US games to take advantage of the true 480P mode.
Still have my snes and n64 with loads of games and the gameboy micro has 100s of great games (although the ds is great as well)..

Anyway old-skool nintendo fanboiism monologue over.... heat added

I don't think it looks the best of the last generation of consoles with component cables. For a start the xbox could do 720p and 1080p in some games via component and the dreamcast had almost all games doing progressive scan using the VGA cable and I would say both of these are superior to gamecube visually. The dreamcast has 8meg dedicated to video where as the gamecube and wii only have 2meg for the frame buffer and 1meg for a texture cache. If you look at shenmue and shenmue II on the dreamcast you can see an incredible amount of textures and detail. However the gc is miles ahead of the ps2 graphically. The ps2 graphics synthesisor was a bit of a mess and although having a huge polygon output lacked important stuff like anti-aliasing, proper texture compression and the ability to do progressive easily. The ps2 is really a CRT based console as it interpolates to increase its resolution which softens detail and creates a lot of jaggies. Luckily the ps3 60gb does a good job of cleaning up the ps2 visuals upscaling etc.

However that said the GC is truly fantastic console with many superb games and a real bargain at this price. The wii is basically the same console but running 50% faster and with an extra 48meg (64meg added but losing the 16meg slow buffer memory that the gamecube had).

I used to think that, however i believe the wii version is worse from the offset.

The more ive played double dash over the years the more i love it - it is an excellent multiplayer game and a lot more advanced than the n64 version in terms of car handelling and graphics (obviously).
