Great price!!

just buy one anyway....then when she starts shouting at you put the headset on and ignore her.

Another good wind up is inbetween online games, reading out aloud all the geekish names of the players in the lobby eg. S1LenTSn1PerZ4U (you have to say the numbers as words though!!)

Not worth it.

Could well be non-hdmi, you'd be very fortunate to get the latest revision (Jasper)

The microsoft warranty is only valid for the original owner, and these could have been banned/flagged for banning next time it's on live. So either way you lose out on that 3 year RROD extension.

There's deals all the time on here for a new one for £109 with the WEP and anotehr game.

Rubbish, warranty is transferable. Would never touch a used 360 though and would advise everyone the same.

Go on then, ring them up, see what they say. It'll be "sorry, the warranty is only valid for the original owner"

So unless you're going to trace the original owner back through Blockbuster (i'd imagine illegal under the data protection act), you're out of luck.

EDIT: from the Major Nelson blog thing (official MS)

As you may have read online, we’ve been actively banning consoles from Xbox LIVE that have been modified to play pirated games. Our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community remains a top priority. All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them. This would also be a good time to remind you that the warranty on an Xbox 360 console is not transferrable and if you purchase a used console that has been previously banned, you will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.

i wasnt the original owner on my 360 and when the motherboard went on it MS sent teh courier to pick it up, fixed it, sent it back to me and gave me a free month of live.

doesnt it say refurbished? which means they are manufacturer refurbs as a shop wouldnt refurb them. which means the 6 months warrenty is probably from the store and it comes with a ms warrenty of 12 month. Also you can pay for an extended warrenty from microsft if your that paranoid of it breaking.
#18
Just a heads up, make sure you get these tested before you buy them!
#19
I wouldn't buy it. Doesn't look to be a HD version, so red ring is basically certain, and no HD gaming. Then you're going to need to buy a HDD.

RIght, so it wasn't registered to anyone in the first place...

I've never heard of 360 refurbs being sold at retail, only 2nd hand consoles, so i'm intrigued as to who is refurbing them, as that will also affect the MS warranty status, if it had one (as per your none registered example).

I work at BB Games in Leeds and all I can say is that whenever these come in stock they go straight back out again -- they're mega hot, and really hard to get your hands on.

Sure it doesn't have an HDMI port, but more often than not it comes with a component cable that'll give you up to 1080i definition, and for the negligible difference between 'i' and 'p' I think this price is well worth it! Especially if it's for someone who wants go get into next gen gaming at an affordable price!

A pre-owned 20GB HDD is just £24.95 too, so if you really want you can actually get one of those at a later date to bring you up to "premium" standards.

Just a side note: An Arcade console is £89.99, a 20GB Premium is £99.99, 60GB Premium is £129.99 and the elite is £149.99.
#24
The MS warranty would only apply i'd imagine if the original owner hadnt registered the xbox to their name in the first place. Then you could register it in your own name.

If however someone else has already registered it with their details then your onto plums.

Not a great price without the hd. Had it had a 20gb HD thrown in then it might have been a bit more appealing.

Only plus point i would see is that as it will be older stock then to "upgrade" the drives firmware or to JTAG it would be relatively easy.

Means he's talking rubbish, all 360s are HD.

What are you talking about? You clearly have no idea about 360s.
At least these are older drives so easy to flash and perhaps JTAGable ;-)
#27
bit strange on the poster, says refurbished, but then says 6 months pre owned guarantee. so is it a trade in or a refurb?
#28
i use mine for streaming tv and films from my pc as much as games, so at this price its tempting to get one for upstairs too... thanks op

The 360 can display up to and including a 1080p image via HDMI, component or VGA. There is no such thing as a non-HD Xbox 360. There are 360s without HDMI though, but that doesn't prevent you from gaming or watching films in 1080p.

You can get a new one for about £30 more and that guarantees getting the latest hardware revision, a 12 month retailer warranty and 3 year RROD/E74 warranty, so I don't think this is that great a deal. If you buy one, check to see if it's a Falcon/Jasper and take the faceplate off to see if the warranty sticker is missing or has obviously been removed/replaced. As someone said earlier, you could end up with a console that's banned from Live (or flagged for a ban) or it could be a refurb or a home repair job that someone did just so they could trade it in.

amen, about time somebody who new what they were talking about jumped in.

lol, thanks, Sykos.

A couple of other things to consider. The 3 year warranty on the RROD/E74 problems can't be used if the console has been registered by the previous owner. Also, even if it hasn't been registered by the previous owner, as it's second hand and you have no original proof of purchase, it will run from the manufacture date of the console, not the date that you buy it from Blockbuster, so with really old machines, that 3 year warranty could have already expired.

To identify the hardware revision (or at least get the best idea you can) look at the back of the console on the left hand side and it'll say the amp rating: -

16.5 amps = Xenon/Zephyr (these are the worst for reliability and are the oldest units)
14.2 amps = Falcon
12.1 amps = Jasper

That's all you'll have to go on with second hand consoles, so ideally you want to see 12.1 amps, or maybe even 14.2, but I'd give any other model a miss personally.

The faceplate just pulls off and you'll see the warranty sticker on the right hand side. It'll either be silver, or a white/pale blue sticker. If that is missing or shows obvious signs of being tampered with, the warranty with Microsoft is definitely void and it is a sign that the console has been opened for some reason, possibly to repair it or to modify it.

Hope that helps. There's definitely a chance to pick up a bargain here, but you could also lumber yourself with a dud if you're not careful.

is this worth getting or not?? i dont want to ask my partner as its going to be a surprise for him

Spend the extra and buy a new one. You'll almost certainly need the 3 year warranty.

False economy imo

it will be a core, as no hdd, so no hdmi, no falcon or whatever, but still cheap, 6 months warantee may well come in handy unless you get lucky and get a traded in arcade
#39
put your 69.99 towards a proper machine like the PS3.

lol I was gonna leave it at that, but come on now I am having a bit of a laugh :)
