Would buy one of these if my local Lackluster wasn't so pants.

Could do with a spare one, mine is pretty old now, and i use for at least an hour a night

anyone know if you cna still get these chipped
#4
You can get them softmodded instead of chipping, then turn it into a media center with XBMC.
Best thing I did with mine

Game also have some back in stock at £9.98 - but no mention of leads or controller this time. Probably only of interest to someone wanting a back up for an XBMC setup.

All I know is that last time I posted this deal (about 4 months ago http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4932600#post4932600 ) the description on the Game website clearly stated that leads + one controller were included. This time it does not....

But strangely this link states that it does include everything : http://www.game.co.uk/Xbox/Hardware/Console/~r331182/Microsoft-Xbox-Console-Preowned/default.aspx !!

if you can softmod these babies, great little media centre for cheap. it was great when game sold them for a tenner bought a fair few modded them up and gave them to family members as filler presents.

Also the xbox is still awesome for emulators, far better than wii and you can go up to high resolutions like 1080i at least for 8bit and 16bit emulators.

XBMC is excellent, got two in my house, the downstairs one probably gets around 3-4 hours use a day (kids in the day, me and wife in evening).

We got rid of Virgin Media's TV service, and have been without live TV for about 2 months, just using XBMC.

The only issue is lack of HD output. Otherwise faultless.

Hot! Best console I ever brought... 5 yrs ago. Much more solid than a 360.

Hi, interested in getting an Box1 but thought the only real benefit of XBMC was to play avi's and music etc, am I missing something?

You can get the original xbox to output 720p & 1080i.
1) Get a Component cable off ebay (might take you a while to filter through all the 360 component cables, but you will find one)
2) Use 'Enigmah' on the Xbox to switch from PAL to NTSC.
3) Boot up the original MS Xbox dashboard, & go into the video options.
4) Enable 720p &1080i

Best thing since sliced bread + xbmc that is.

Only issue is lack of HD material playback support ;) I've been using a component cable on mine for years, definately worth it but still can't playback HD material, although it has been tinkered with.

As much as we still use mine ( we have 3 xboxes modded with xbmc) and it's pretty much in use 24/7, I do feel I'm now drawing very close to it's limits. Not being able to playback my HD/Blu ray rips is a ******. Emulator support as mentioned is great, still heavily use it for N64 and ps1 emulation.

With nearly 400 ripped movies and programmes running PMIII @ 1080i it does start to glitch, specifically in library mode but nowhere near the kind of problems you hear users of HTPC's complaining of. This seriously is my number 1 piece of kit in a long long time. Until I can find a media unit that can gurantee the same kind of stability, support and customization that xbmc on the xbox offers, along with hd .iso playback support I won't be changing.

Think he means he aquires TV shows in avi format, and then watches them on the xbox
