Review

It sees the heat of their bodies. It smells their fears. It hunts for sport. It kills for pleasure. In a place without rules - the hunter has become the hunted. Deep inside the jungles of Latin America, Schwarzenegger's team of elite commandos are being slaughtered by a mysterious predator. No longer are they hunters - they are the prey... of an alien whose only instinct is to kill. One by one it strikes with inhuman ferocity. Now to survive, with the jungle as their only ally, they face their greatest challenge: to stay alive.

The transfer on this is MUCH worse than the original Blu-ray release. The people look like waxworks and there is ZERO grain because it has been artificially removed. It sucks.

Very good price so voted hot from me......but.....reading the reviews I'm very confused about whether the new HD master is good or bad - some say it looks fantastic, others like yourself say it looks 'fake' & 'plastic' - anybody else got this already ? What's the opinion ?

There was so much grain in the first release it was like watching it through a sandstorm. This is way superior.

Simply put if your a purist and want to see the film the way the director INTENDED then the original version is for you. However if you like a cleaner picture, i.e no grain and therefor a lack of detail then this version is for you.

Most of the time it looks great but unfortunately there are some moments esp close ups when faces looks too smooth and waxy. Overall its a really good transfer just let down a bit by overzealous use of dnr in some scenes.

Looks better, but actually has less detail. Its obviously down to the individuals preference though on what they prefer.

"What's the matter, CIA got you pushing too many pencils?"

Love this film - a very simple premise brilliantly executed by the Director/Actors.

What else is the code valid with?

I have both versions, i prefer this one. The grain is way over the top on the original. Maybe the director intended a little grain but when its transfered to Blu Ray and because of the increased resolution of 1080p im pretty sure the Director never intended for there to be so much. on the DVD release there is grain but its not too bad because of the lower resolution DVD offers, same cant be said about he original Blu Ray transfer.

Not only that but they have cleaned up the transfer, brightened it up so it looks far superior. Sure the odd scene looks a little shiny but i would rather have that than the constant grain.

This version is much better IMHO.

Conclusion
Make no mistake, Predator has never looked so good. All the grain and dust has been completely removed from the entire movie. The picture quality is crisp and clear throughout. No doubt there will be some people criticizing the new transfer for the sake of it but Predator will never look as good as this. I definitely recommend buying this version if you have the older DVD or first Blu-Ray release. Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition goes on sale June 29th in the US and July 5th in the UK.]
