The new DSI XL handheld is a premium addition to the Nintendo DS family, coming pre-loaded with some top software: Dr Kawashima's: Little Bit of Brain Training: Arts Edition and Dictionary 6 in 1 with Camera Function and the Nintendo DSi Browser, which enables you to easily access the internet from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection. Available in wine red and dark brown, the Nintendo DSi XL comes with a glossy sheen on top and matt finish on the underside that provides excellent grip when resting on a table or other surface during gameplay. This DSi is just an excuse for them to release a new one and try again in their quest again hackers...

They added the bigger screen to make it worth your while too :) but they are floggin a dead horse really.. they should have made a new console already, i mean what next? DSi XXL?

yup agree...

not gonna be long till people start cottoning on that apple and nintendo are both cashing in on GIMMICKS!!!

Just got a wii recently after 3 years of debating. Ended up getting it purely because of super mario bros, one of the only reasons genuine gamers are actually still paying for Nintendo's consoles.

I prefer the ds lite they are getting desperate with what they are offering. Crappy cameras and bigger screens almost twice the price of a ds lite and not much if any better :whistling:
#5
I think it's primarily aimed at older people, for them to play with more comfort (and would also be less likely travel with it).

DS Lite is perfect for portability.

Too many haterz these days lol

Got this from PLAY.COM before xmas for £129.99...(same colour)...good find for current offer tho - so voted HOT!

having had a play with one (imported) i have to say they are very good. the screens are a lot bigger compared to the dsi and has a very nice 'feel'. i'd choose this over a dsi.
#8
I am becoming really disappointed with Nintendo and their marketing strategies, sux if you just brought a new ds over crimbo.

Is that an Ace Attorney avatar? Those games alone are worth investing in a ds of any type.
Personally I dont like the dsi or this. The DS Lite needed to happen as the original was bulky and dark screened, but these newer models are getting silly - the DSi is barely a year old!

Lets face it, if you couldn't use an R4/DSTT etc etc would you buy a DS?

yep, that's Von Karma, those games are very under-rated imo
can't wait for the new one out next month

Lol, I couldn't remember his name, its been a while since I played (completed the original, have done a couple of random cases on the others with my girlfriend whos absolutely hooked and completed them all - think shes got the new one on preorder!).
You are right, very under-rated series. I'm hoping for an iphone remake!

is this a viable alternative to a netbook?

Where's the deal? It's a pre-order for a new product. Is this an especially low price? If I order this time am I guaranteed to pay less? At the moment not voting either way, but if this is just a new product announcement, then it's not a deal.

The Trade pirce for the DSi XL is £10.00 more than the DSi and the RRP is £159.99 Amazon are discounting it by £10.00 so yes while a new price its still the cheapest price around.

Thanks for the Predorder

Hot and I want it....but getting bored quickly with DS games

The point is this XL version is intended for people who may want to try the DS but can't get on with the smaller screen and format of the original. I think Nintendo has pulled a masterstroke with this console since release of the DS Lite (especially since the first version of the DS came close to being a failure). There are literally hundreds of games available and probably something of interest to almost everybody from kiddies to grannies. Of course the Nintendo haters out there will disagree but you are outnumbered I'm afraid!

Oh go back to your Xbox and leave this nonsense out - there are loads of excellent games on the Wii for the whole family.

I don't see the problem with Nintendo releasing this, the amount of people that I know who have a DS or a Wii and not into gaming is unreal. Nintendo are very clever, top selling console in the world. And this would be perfect for the older people etc. Why would they bring out a new one when this version is still selling by the bucket loads.
Sony went down the wrong route with the PSP, I dont know anyone who is not into games who has a PSP.
I would have to see this first and have a play test, but looking forward to it.

Just to clarify, this IS being marketed at older people. It comes with two (rubbish) 'games' built in, and I was looking at getting one myself, until I read that they're only looking to release them in Wine Red and Brown. That put me straight off. Thanks, Nintendo.

Voted cold pre order from game at the same price and that was just after a 10 second search. Probably will be this price in most places

No, but I have 3 children who use and enjoy their DS's and our Wii on a daily basis, plus I have just had a great time myself playing through Resident Evil 4 on the Wii (and am now playing Cursed Mountain which is also a lot of fun). I just can't stand the haters who rubbish a product or company for poorly thought out reasons, and if you diss something that I like then I will comment about it!

PS - thinking about it, I wish I did work for them - I have a friend who works for Sony and she got her PS3 and loads of other stuff for free.

I would disagree - at the time I knew someone in Canada who I made get me one there (about 6 months before its UK release), they had to go around 10 shops in two towns to actually find one in stock! I think the original DS did very very well, and it was just a case of the DS lite being even better (smaller, bright screens etc), more "stylish", and around when the number of great games was increasing every day that pushed the masses into purchasing it.

Lulz.
Straight out of the Nintendo sales patter manual.

The DSi bombed big time, and I see no reason why anyone will be rushing to get this over the DS Lite, or DSi.

Well, thanks Mr Saint. I guess I can wait until the next time you post about something you enjoy or are enthusiastic about - then I can sh*t on you

Some people simply prefer a bigger screen, and aren't after the DS so much for its portability. I play my DS only at home, and would thoroughly enjoy this solely for its bigger screen, but I refuse to pay this much for it, and it only comes it two naff colours, so I'll pass for now.

The hand bags seem to be well and truely out on this one!
What most people are saying is that it is a poor offering from Nintendo - the ds was good the ds lite even better and only £10 more at the time which was not a bad deal considering it had a brighter screen for outdoorish use and looked soooo much better.
This thing is twice the price of a DS Lite for a Cack Camera and a bigger screen; Nintendo are having our leg over on this one so I would agree a poor offering. What we need is a new better console, not an upgrade, which still plays our old ds games, even then £150 is too much for a hand held console.
