I'm not sure that "Due in soon" actually means soon, but hey, if you're really eager you can preorder the iPhone in either 4GB or 8GB configurations.

Link is to the 4GB phone, below are both:
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product/691/apple-iphone--4-gb-
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product/692/apple-iphone--8-gb-

"iPhone is a revolutionary new mobile phone that allows you to make a call by simply pointing your finger at a name or number in your address book, a favorites list, or a call log. It also automatically syncs all your contacts from a PC, Mac, or Internet service. And it lets you select and listen to voicemail messages in whatever order you want - just like email. A widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching - into one small and lightweight handheld device."

Are you serious? Nearly everyone wants one of these..

I don't think it will be as big a hit. Wheres the 3G? I'm not surfing on a standard connection. zzzzzzzzz
#7
Sorry, are you guys living under a rock?

It's a fashion phone, which any joe bloggs would highly desire.
#8
I guess people missed all those news reports about people in the US queuing up for days/hours to get one of these (according to wiki, they sold an esitmated 250,000-700,000 - pretty wide number there though, lol).

Seems like a good price to me considering the US prices ($499-$599), the conversion seems quite reasonable!
#9
is this like an ipod?
#10
Is it just me or does this not look right?

Reading through the page it seems they are selling it offline which I didn't think was going to be the case with the Iphone, it was only going to be sold with a contact. In the UK I think that's going to be O2? Also if it's without contract that seems to be a very low price given the US price is the subsidised cost, you have to take out a two year phone plan. I also thought the European Iphone was going to be slightly different and have 3G support or was that just a baseless rumour?

Looks a bit bulky, might wait for the iphone nano
#14
As far as I know the iphone will be on vodafone. You couldn't buy it offline in the states but the rules can be different over here so you never know :) It will be big but it took a long time to sell out in the states if at all as apple had a lot of stock ready. For a geek like me the phone is rubbish and you're better off with the N95 (with an extended battery from ebay).

it will be available offline, expansy are taking preorders for unlocked versions. Personally will not be getting one... 3g is a must for myself, eventhough it's interface seems pretty neat!

Agreed.

This deal looks hugely, hugely dodgy - to make use of a lot of the iPhone's features the network operator has to adapt its network. As the protocols and methods that the iPhone uses are registered to Apple, it's unlikely that all operators will carry it and, as has been mentioned, the bidding for the rights is still underway.

Even if this is some variety of contract-free, simless phone you won't be able to activate it as even that is tied into the network!

I'd avoid, very very strongly until some firm details are announced by European network operators.

You'll notice their page offering it for pre-order has removed the simfree option.

iPhone or not, it will only be on O2

Watch out for any other news...

It's cool, that's true. But I won't be bothered to get one of these.
The non-removable battery really puts me off.
Better off stick with my XDA Orbit

Nice sized screen gives it great video potential, especially combined with itunes video downloads, and for internet surfing. Similarly, apps designed especially with Iphone in mind, which will happen given the sheer numbers that will sell, make portable access to things like google maps extremely practical. Ipod replacement is great, especially with the 8GB model. All the interface stuff is nice too.

Except ... they screwed up. No 3G makes it pointless. Also, the non-replaceable battery is really going to cost you - rather than buying a cheap 10 pound replacement, you have to send it back to Apple for a gazillion dollar repair.

Nice one. This is the biggest pile of over hyped, over priced cr*p going. Waste of space and waste of money....like most apple equipment really...

Hi, I'd love one of these.
Voted hot.

This is what the widescreen ipod will look like one day.

Russian hackers have found a back door, built in function which can send back everything to a predetermined server. More yank spy crap.
#30
Must admit I didn't think much of this until i tried one out last week in a Apple store in the USA.

The interface is really the main selling point, very simple to use yet snazzy.

In the states they are selling the 8GB on AT&T for $600+tax , locked to the network and you have to activate the features through iTunes.

Apparently the activation process has been hacked, but the simlock still remains - it will most likely be a similar deal when it comes here.
Unlike the USA, European law states all service providers have to offer a service (usually a subsidy code) to allow end users to use there handsets on other networks.
#31
The price is just comedy..... you could get an 80gb ipod and a decent phone (which i might add will probably include a camera) for less than the 8gb one....... with all the trouble i have had in the past with overtechnologically developed phones i will be steering well clear!

And that's a really huge number of phones to be selling given the small US population of 300 million or so people :whistling:
#33
Out-dated crap.........and its not even out here yet.

But if it looks pretty lots of idiots are gonna buy it, jsut like the iPods.
#34
From what i've heared it's just another way to get people to line Steve Job's pockets by getting as many people as possible on the i-tunes band-wagon.
In the US you have to register a creditcard with i-tunes to get the fone activated.
The included applicatioons are basic - e.g you can't add attatchments to emails with the exception of sending a pic taken by the fones 2 mpixel camera but then it's downsized to vga.
Others have already mentioned the battery - more money for Jobs.
If 3G is missing from the UK variants as it is on the US fones then downloading all those itunes is going to take some time and maybe expensive unless O2 come up with a decent data package - it doesn't have WiFi so no free downloading:(
As a fashion statement it's up there with Twiggy & the mini skirt but in reality it's a very expensive MP3 player with a mediocre fone installed.
If you want a chuckle check out the N95 v iphone vids on youtube.

This pretty much sums up my opinion of the iPhone :whistling:

Warning, strong language!

It is when it's only been out for 2 weeks.

If you consider how many people have said the PS3 is overpriced, which is exactly the same price as the iPod, the PS3 has sold around 1.4m in the US since November, the iPhone could have possible sold 750,000 in a 2 week period. That's pretty impressive for the price they're selling it at.
#39
Nearly an extra £100 for 8gb over the 4gb one!

don't follow the crowd, get the SE K850i when it comes, 5mb camera, yes please!
