I saw they started selling these on eBay very recently, and HMV dropped the price of the old box set down again to £13.99 ( - Thanks edi) so there had to be something on the horizon.

With a feature set like that, I wonder what the Region 1 version of this has over the Region 2 here.

Thanks jack1974uk.

Is this box the tin version? Just found this:

This boxset is £55.99 at HMV. There's a code for £3 off when you spend £20 (DG6564) making it £52.99.

Add in 9% Quidco cashback (you can't get Quidco with Amazon) and you're looking at £48.22, which is getting on for £10 cheaper.

from my point of view: a good set, but considering that Superman Returns 2-disc is available to pre-order for £8.99 ...and the third and fourth superman films are pretty poor... you're then spending almost £40 for the first two superman (including new Donner cut) films...
I'm not saying it's not good, I'm just saying that I'd probably spend less money and not get all of the films...

Interesting that they highlight that the deleted scenes do not include the 'return to krypton' sequence which was cut from SR. There's speculation that there'll be a 'director's cut' of SR coming along pretty soon, after everyone's bought the theatrical version (as usual!), with that 30 minute sequence restored.

i'm not gonna buy this until it comes down to a reasonable price, around £30 would be realistic
#8
wouldnt be able to wait that long myself, I was gonna get donners cut and superman returns 2 disc anyway and I was also considering the original movies. This 13disc boxset makes it a good option for me
#9
I'm also intrigued to see the Donner cut as Superman II is crap. I can't even remember III and IV.
#10
Superman 2 is WAY better than the original IMO!

(Mind you, considering they were filmed virtually at the same time, there can't be that much difference...)
#11
I thought the original was decent (watching this year for the first time since I was a kid) but the second was awful! Some of the scenes involving the idiots in black are embarrassing (when they start blowing everything).

I refuse to buy this travesty of a boxset that includes that pos Superman Returns *spit*.

It should have simply been a proper tribute to Christopher Reeve and possibly included Supergirl too.

I really can't decide between the two. I love them both. Superman 3 I thought was alright, and Superman 4, lets not go their.

From what I understand, Superman 1 and 2 were originally thought to be one movie split into two, so different endings and beginnings were added into to split it up. Donners cut will show what it was orignially supposed to be, cant wait.

First time I watched Superman, I was like its ok. Then I watched it again without trying to compare it to the old one. To be fair I watched the originals as a child so nothing could compare. I went back with the missus and watched it with an open mind and found I loved it.

A few weeks l8r I had some friends comedown from Leicester so we went to Imax London to watch it in 3D. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Although we did miss the first 10minutes, who the bloody hell sticks a cinema in the middle of a roundabout with an underground entrance with the screen and food stalls on seperate floors?

*grin* Just can't stand this terrible attempt at a Superman film. I don't think I could think of anything they did right. Awful premise, terrible plot, beyond terrible casting, bad acting. The effects were ok but nothing special in this day and age.

I was really hoping they'd use the Donner cut to make a nice Reeve Tribute boxset. Sticking Superman Retunrs, which was meant to replace 3 and 4 (and is a massive rip off of Superman the Movie despite being a sequel to it), in the same boxset 'as' 3 & 4 is just moronic.

Now I'll have to do the same as some of the others above and make up my own set from the individual releases. Might buy the box and extras off ebay - people regularly sell stuff like that.

Yeah....Superman Returns had one decent action scene (the airplane/space shuttle bit)....after that, it was pretty average....and should have ended 30mins before it did (the last half hour bored me to tears)!

In fact, I'd recommend the "Christopher Reeve Superman Collection", which you can get for 33.99 on CD-WOW (before discounts/vouchers/quidco...etc)

http://www12.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2.php?product_code=388126&subcat=region2&affid=15949&siteid=1063

It has the new editions of Superman 1 - 4 (with no Superman Returns!)

It was not all that I was expecting but still think they pulled it off well enough. Now that they've gotten the transition thing sorted I'm hoping the sequel will be good. I think part of the reason I liked it was because of some unexpected things. Mainly where Lex and his guys were beating the crap out of him. I didnt expect that kind of violance in a Superman movie

Meh, the whole 'baby' premise was awful to start off with. You gotta close your eyes to certain levels of silliness in sci/fi/fantasy/superhero genres but that crossed the line.

Throw in that the basic plot (land rip off etc) is just a rehash of Superman the Movie, that this movie is supposed to be a sequel to 1 & 2 but contradicts certain elements of those movies while not even bothering to throw in any history or recap to point out which bits they are using and which bits they are ignoring, and that we are supposed to forget that 3 & 4 exist (ok 4 is terrible but thats not the point) for this movie to work and it's a giant screw up.

Let's gloss over the fact that they have a 22yr old playing a hardened new york pullitzer prize winning journalist with a 5 or 6 yr old son so therefore was knocked up as an underage (in the US) teenager and has somehow become ten years younger than in the first two movies even though this is 5 or 6 years 'later'. Oh and Superman now looks almost Arabic instead of a homegrown US farmboy.

Feh.
