Wouldn't bother with HMV. Fudged the Halo 360 deal by having 1 in stock and allowing dozens if not more purchases before correcting their mistake.

Most of which are being re-released in 1920x1080 or are already released :)

Add MGS 1 HD release to that as well.

How much are they new? When Sainsburys had them for £40 I should have bought one.

Preowned games you can give them a wipe but I don't like the idea of a console and controller being in someone else's hands.

The lasers on these things are liable to be shot....The disc cannot be read sort of thing.

You cannot obviously get rid of scratches, but you can still give the console and controller a wipe...and seripusly if I have bought anything second hand in my retro collection that is the first thing I do is take apart and clean down thoroughly, particularly the controllers.

I agree. I saw them in a few places around £20 last year and I doubt PS2's have suddenly shot up in price for some reason
#12
The only reason to pick up an old style fat console like this is because of the HDD bay. Other than that the slim is a far better option to relive some PS2 classics (better laser too).

I haven't has a PS2 that long but I think the games on it are better than anything I've got on the 360. I bought Ratchet and Clank 1 - 3 and Jak and Daxter 1 - 3 and Gitaroo man and a few more. It made me realise how dead inside the lineup on the 360 is. They're just not joyful.

I snubbed the PS2 because I had an xbox which was 'better'. I was wrong. It's the games that make the machine, not the hardware.
#14
Phats are notoruious for having the lasers becoming unaligned & leaving the rings on the discs (like the 360)

Would be hot if it was a slim but alas it isn't :/
#15
You'd be wanting a warranty if you got one of these. The old 'phat' PS2s are getting on a bit now and the ones which are still alive will be in-line for Disc Read Error soon enough.

However, these are great for hacking. Run games from an internal hard drive (if you can find a Network Adapter), memory card exploit to load homebrew, etc..

The only decent titles there (GTA) aren't being re-released.

Done! Here I come MGS3!
Oh, and Graffiti Kingdom, if I can find one of those region discs.
#18
Look, this is old and yesterday's console etc etc.

But I have one of these installed in the car with screens (it was already in there when I bought it) and it keeps the kids quiet on long drives. Well worth the £15. Not as difficult to fit as you might have thought either as I have taken mine out all out and put it back in again.

The PS2 currently has the best console rugby union game until the world cup - which is one good reason to grab one of these!
#20
ordered and cancelled.

thought about it!

great deal though

true for £25 better off new....and guess its ok for the console, but 2nd hand controller yuck!!

Whilst an excellent price, considering how old these are the lasers will most likely be worn to death. A lot of DVDs may not be readable and some of the later games such as God of War 2, Final Fantasy 12 etc may not read correctly. I have my original 2003 phat model but it's on it's last legs now as it really struggles with data heavy games and refuses to read dual layer discs completely.

I have a slimline model which is working great so that makes up for it but the only reason I don't sell my phat model off is because it's not worth much and I want to give it a formal funeral once it retires completely :P

1 years guarantee so basically £1.25 a month, then bin it!

What about games consoles?
All our consoles are thoroughly tested before we accept them for trade in, to ensure that they work. They all come with all the relevant cables, power pads etc as standard that you’d expect as if purchasing the console as new. The console it’s may have slight cosmetic scratches, however these shouldn’t affect use of the console. Of course, any pre-played console you purchase from us comes with a one - year guarantee.

If you check ebay for local listings you could prob get a better deal than this. I got a ps2 slimline with a heap of games, two controllers and an eye toy for little more than this. Just had to pick it up

For anyone who wants a Slimline PS2 I will sell mine (hardly used) with 2 controllers for £20. I think I might even still have the box as well
#27
It's like 360 Halo Edition ?

It will be cancel ?
#28
Wouldn't touch a HMV deal with a bargepole.

P.S. All your orders will be cancelled.

I still have my original phat (over 10 years old) and it still works but it's starting to sound like it's struggling to read the discs. I'm very interested in the backup method you mention - can you provide any useful links for noob guides/tuts please?

Great deal btw - heat added.

Blame CoD and Activision. They've single handedly ruined the games industry.

Games now revolve around mediocre online play with a 4 hour campaign tacked on, and if you're very very lucky, you'll be able to play that extremely short campaign in coop.

In terms of PS2 v Xbox, its still the same with next gen consoles, PS3 has all the platformers and epic single player games, the 360 just has pointless, lackluster FPS games from CoD WaW onwards.

MGS 2 & 3, what else do you need?!

There not pointless. They are fun and competitive. Especially when you play online with your friends. If they were pointless no one would play them.
#34
Does anyone know if this can be taken to the US - will it work there? I don't know what the regioning is like on these..

The laser eye lens can often be dirty especially if in a smoky environment.
I've carefully cleaned 3 lenses and each time has eliminated read disc errors. Not sure if a laser wears out...

I remember getting my first PS2 back in 2001 with 4 games that cost me £400 from Dixons. And unlike modern consoles it still works nearly a decade later.
