It's an awful lot when you only have 256mb

Amazing price. Bought for my spare xbox. £2.99 with my £5 loyalty points on my account that I didnt know I had! Double bonus!!

Its preowned!
#7
It's worth it just for the enclosure alone really.
#8
Still a bargain even it's it pre-owned. Charged someone just over £10 before for one of these.
#9
If there's a normal HDD lurking in there I could extract maybe useful as a separate disk for the OS.
#10
Agree, ordered one. Thanks

Yes it's very simple – I did it the other day, See Youtube for full video tutorials but it's just a matter of taking the hard drive out of the plastic case and then slotting it straight in the Slim.

Without opening it who knows but I very much doubt they are fitting these out with 10000rpm drives, probably 5400?!? I assumed that you were wanting a significant speed boost, if so SSD is the only way to go, especially as they are now so cheap!

No sh!t!! oO .... try using your 5Ghz Pentium 12 with 4000Gb of RAM alongside a 5400rpm, 8mb cache hard drive and then tell me its no ONE of the important factors ;)

Just be aware that not all Xbox games can be emulated on the 360, its worth checking out the website to see which ones will work (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360) (_;)

OK thanks, 5400 would do. I'm not looking to make up some superfast system, It's just the HDD in the system I built for my son out of old bits and pieces has got the click of death, and this would be a cheap fix. The current boot drive is 20Gb and year 2000 vintage IIRC.

In that case I'll retract and say that yes, this seems a decent solution to your problem PROVIDED that the drives are not locked out like they used to be on the old Xbox. Its not detrimental if it is but you will have a faff on your hands, may be better to ring a local repair shop and ask if they have any lying around. Alternatively, I have a few (a couple of 20, a 40, 80 I think and even 120, you're welcome to one FOC, pick up or post out?!?!

crack it open and put into a new xbox 360 S. Bargain!
#30
spamcan61, just thought, these are probably 2.5" SATA drives whereas your PC will no doubt be 3.5" IDE, I have the 3.5" IDE drives lying around not SATA.
#31
Wish I'd seen this earlier...fantastic price!
#32
Nope the drives arn't locked, well not in a way which will stop what's mentioned above.

I swapped out the HDD in my jtag box a while ago with the drive from a portable HD. Now I have 250GB 360 and use the 20GB for the portable HD.

Just format the drive and your good to go.

Edit -
Just to confirm with above these are 2.5'' sata drives.

you cant put the drive into the slim as it is, but if you busted it open you can then wedge the drive in with a bit of foam (loads of links on this) but if you are happy to tinker then you can convert a WD drive to a suitable one.

I have an old premium with a 20gb and it was only when my dvd drive was playing up that i ran out of space and that was by loading halo rach onto the internal hdd, otherwise it holds an awful lot of arcade games, plus you can use a usb thumb drive for save data now to reduce the load on the actual hdd.

PEBBLO, the drives do have a security secotor to be used on the 360, you can format them and use them on the pc without issue, but a regular WD drive needs more than just a format to work in the 360 (not hard tho), the jatag removed the check for this so will accept pretty much any sata hdd as is, but a regular 360 will not.
