Its not a drug to do a randomised control trial against a drug. Learn about it if interested.

But there have been randomised controled tests of these bands for travel and motion sickness. Its not only drug companies that can do randomised testing.

The 2 papers I cited earlier are tests done by the US Navy, pretty sure they would have a financial interest in a cheap reliable aid to motion sickness....
there are loads more that I have read in the past. You can find some more here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=p6+accupressure+for+motion+sickness

You can alter the search criteria for PONV etc and will get a few more. Other sources will find more stuff.

You might find the following links useful
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16103382

i think this was the one they sold at tesco http://www.sea-band.com/for-medical-professionals/

there are many more that i have read in the past but cant recall the links.
Yes I know that there are rcts but with multifactorial causation it will be difficult to get results as things like ponv or motion sickness have different causation in different people needing different treatment. The Same treatment regime won't work for all people. Something that is very obvious for anyone that regularly treats nausea vomiting cases.

I am not saying this will be the magic bullet for everyone but will work for quite a few. No one will be able to tell for whom it will work and for whom it will not work unless they try it.

You have some well meaning miss informed people arguing here and also some total idiots arguing about things they don't have a clue about. I am not bothered about this. Even if one child with severe travel sickness gets helped by me saying here that these work for some, then I am happy. I know enough people for whom this had worked very well. For kids especially small ones like mine they don't have a clue of nausea or causation or even what the bands is for. So there is no question of placebo. There are trials which have used various different pressure points which didn't show placebo effect and those studies had good p values. And those groups had the effect negated when they had local anaesthetic infiltration at the P6 point. Any one can find those studies by searching for it.

Last but not the least I guess my comments yesterday were a bit harsh towards some ignorant Junior Doctor posting here and probably my words should have been more temperate in my retort. Apologies. Have a nice day.

Ben Goldacre is a pretty good doctor, and he is an epidemiologist, so pretty good at stats as well.....

what a bizarre post about Cochrane!
They are like every other meta analysis, only with completely, pre-defined and explicit inclusion/exclusion criteria. I dont even understand your point, are you suggesting that because they dont administer the therapy that they are not qualified to perform the analysis?
Have you ever met a doctor who was a top-notch statistician? I haven't.
a meta analysis will be just that a statistical analysis. It wont be THE deciding factor for any treatment. if it was we would be going by what statisticians tell us rather than rely on doctors.

As per your comments about statistics abilities about doctors.... Have you ever met a statistician who was a top notch doctor? I bet not. Stick to dealing with black balls and red balls (statistics)etc and leave the actual doctor work to doctors or we will end up with Holby City instead of actual doctors treating patients!
