Would heartily recommend Primus to anyone. Pay around £15 a month for line rental, calls and broadband and it's been faultless for over a year now. Have BT Infinity at home which costs me £51.50 a month for the same as above, and it's a flipping disaster start to finish. Gonna cancel the BT soon and get Primus at home too. Speeds not as good as fibre, but ten times more stable, reliable and much cheaper!

I'm looking to switch from sky because the price is going up and up every couple of months and my broadband is **** it keeps loosing speed, i dread the thought of having to call them spending 2 hours on phone, taking all the phone sockets apart its a joke
Can anyone recommend an all in one package ie TV, broadband/fiber and phone
It would be much appreciated
#3
I am just moving from Sky to Plusnet.
Total saving for the first 12 months line rental/anytime phone/unlimited broadband is £110
That includes £77.70 Top cash back and £5pm broadband discount.

plusnet don't offer the TV service ?

I did actually think of them, I'm going to check it out later
What are there customer service like are they English ?
Thanks for that :)

Yes, UK based and they are proud of it.
I rang Sky to see if they would beat the deal, they were grumpy.
I rang Plusnet to ask a technical question, they answered quickly and were cheerful Yorkshire folk.
http://www.plus.net/home-broadband/satisfaction/

I have heard both good and bad about Plusnet and it was the same with Sky.
For me it was all about cost, Sky worked but I couldn't ignore the saving.

Yes I missed that bit (was reading on phone earlier), but I am strictly Freeview so it isn't an issue for me.

I might go down the Freeview path because there is very little worth watching on sky
Thanks for the help :)

If you bypass the broadband choice website and go directly to the Primus site, then you get a cheaper price for the broadband and line rental package.
This line rental doesn't seem to offer free evening calls, otherwise good line rental price

If I'm already with Primus and have am beyond the minimum contract period can I use that site to get the lower monthly rental or would I need to go direct to Primus?
#11
ive been with primus upto about 2 weeks ago, could not fault there service , i had no problems at all and was cheapest line rental in the uk, i never use land line so the £5.99 a month is a steal, one question i would have is what will the price be after the 12 months contract is up.
#12
Anyone on the Primus fiber deal? Their 38meg+ any time calls looks good? (http://www.primussaver.co.uk/fibre-broadband-38mb-anytime-call.html)

But is their customer service any good??
#13
Hmm, worth noting that basic 1571 answering machine is £2.50/month and caller display is £2.50 per month... I think both are free from most other providers now? This is a very basic phone service (which is fine, but should be noted!)

My experience of primus was terrible. The broadband constantly dropped, the speeds were bad. They would never reply to my emails about this. I requested someone to come and fix it several times which never happened and eventually had to go to the ombudsman to get out of my Contra ct as I was paying for no broadband. The ombudsman said they were ha information a lot of issues with this company as well. Eventually I got y money back and an apology off them about 7months later.

If you click on the deal they offer line rental & free evening and weekend calls for £6.99 which is still a very good deal.

This offer is about a Primus phone line not their broadband ..... don't make it go cold, thank you

i don't have any line or broadband so forgive my ignorance but i will much appreciate the advise if i can get started right.
So to get this deal, i need to pay for installation first? I do have a BT line plug but the line is inactive as the previous owner used to have a line i think. is there any way around installation charges? this deal sounds perfect for me as i don't use beyond freeview or don't use the phone to make calls either. i just need broadband so trying to minimize the total cost.

thanks OP and all contributors, this seems to be a solution to my requirement.

Thanks but Plusnet is included in the sales pitch for the broadband not Primus. I've been with both for nearly 3 years now, never had a problem with them. Plusnet also do unlimited broadband on their 10GB package between the hours of 12am-8am which makes this deal so attractive.

Do you have a old inactive number mate? ....I was in the same boat as you, didn't want to pay for stupid prices of having the line reconnected. I signed up with a phone line company called http://www.madasafish.com/ just gave them the old telephone number . they didn't charge me anything for the reconnect ,
I stayed with them for about 1-2 months ditched & switched to a different company so I could get the broadband. this was about 3 years ago , always worth a go if you don't want to pay the re connection charges.

(Edit) sign up with madasafish £11.99 mth ...Add Plusnet standalone £8.49 stay with madasafish for about 2 months then ditch them for a Primus phoneline.

initial line rental is hot, but they increase their rental after the first year considerably, whilst advertising low rates for first timers.
OP made the mistake of bundling his deal with broadband from Plusnet and therefore a package price of £14.48. You can better deals elsewhere. Even the Primus bundle is cheaper than the OP's without even considering the cashbacks, and you get free evening calls and unlimited broadband 24 hours a daŷ. (I worked my comparison on paying the line rental in advance thus £10pm, broadband £2 for 6 months followed by £4 pm

The line rental is only for 12 mths, you can quite simple move to another company at the end of the contract if you're not going to be happy with the new price, with Plusnet broadband there seems to be no price increase no matter how long you stay with them.

now that's a lot of clever doing. I'm not capable of coming up with such clever way arounds so trying to benefit from your's! Thanks very much for being so kind and advising me.
The only problem i think it might not work for me is the old number i had was in my x-husband's name so i don't have a number to give them. in fairness, the line was in his name when we lived together and he paid for it so if i end up paying for a new connection its no one's fault. will lookout for some cashback deals and see if some of it can be balanced off if it comes to. Ta much again.

The person that lived here before me I didn't know them at all, so it wasn't in my name either. If you're not too keen on doing it with the same number, you can always declare you don't have a number. If you look at that option they only say they'd charge if you were to have a new phone line fitted. which yours would be because
there was a active line before.

honesty don't think they'd charge you the £105 if you were to have it reconnected , they do also state if they had to do this they'd contact you first if they had to do this. Honestly what you got to lose....Go for it! (_;)

I've gone for the Phone Saver plan at £6.99 p.c.m., which compares favourably with the £11.04 I was paying for Post Office Home Phone. I do hope that the Primus service is more professional than their acknowledgement email, which has all my details, including salutation, name, address, etc in lower case. It looks very amateurish.

Thanks for the heads-up, OP.

They have only just started to offer this 5.99 price, so on what do you base your comment ? MoneySavingExpert has listed various prices over the years, and yes, the price from Primus has been higher, and increased by a pound or more (+VAT) in 2012, but they have offered this lower price to existing customers (I've been with them 2 years, once I was out of an 18 month contract with BT {18 months because they installed a new line for free in early 2010}) and they rang me to offer me this lower price.

If it went above a tenner a month, they know people would jump ship to other firms offering line rental at around that price. Unfortunately, lots of the prices for Primus line rental vary, depending on which web site(s) you visit (and how much commission the web site gets for passing Primus a new customer) so you have to keep your eyes open a do a bit of research.

Sweetcorn12

Yes, you can probably get various cheaper deals (really cheap broadband deals, but line rental generally pushes up the price) but Plus.Net is a reasonable ISP compared with most of the ones with really cheap BB (TalkTalk for example) and has customer service awards year after year.

No idea what the Primus broadband is like (but having been using Plus.Net for around 10 years now, I would not hesitate to recommend them, as a 'devil I know' compared with suggesting a BB deal costing 3 quid for a number of months, but locking in for a year. A lot of people are after the most basic line rental as they may have a mobile contract with 1000+ or unlimited minutes to landlines anyway...

I nearly didn't answer the call from Primus because so few people know the number, that most are unwanted cold calls about PPI or "your computer has a virus" scam calls. I don't have an answerphone and would be tempted to unplug any phone so I never get any ringing that way - friends and family always ring my mobile anyway these days!

In fairness, the line was in his name when we lived together and he paid for it so if i end up paying for a new connection its no one's fault.

MadasaFish is part of Plus.Net now (it might have been 3 years ago too). If you get Primus to connect the line, I think they charge 60 quid, Plus.Net charges 50 quid. I only mention it because you might be able to get some deal from whoever does the line rental to set up broadband for free, since you are going to be a customer for both broadband and phone.

If you want the cheap phone line rental, 5.99, then perhaps best to get the line rental (and install) from Primus and then follow on with the broadband as a separate contract (via a cashback site).

If you are getting broadband from Plus.Net anyway (I don't know what other options you are looking at) then you might find it best to phone them and see what offers they have for cheap/free broadband setup - it should be free if you take the line rental with them, but I would advise making the enquiry on the phone and signing up ONLINE (so you can get cashback deals too). You'd need to be able to pay for the line setup and 12 months line rental (to reduce the effective monthly cost), and if you are already using a mobile, then the most basic line rental from Primus might still be a cheaper option overall, after the first year (because the lower line rental over the long term should cancel out any one-off setup fees payable for the broadband, if you see what I mean)

I've cancelled my migration when I found out the impact on my existing ADSL+ service, which I would lose for up to a week. I found Primus very understanding and easy to contact/deal with over the phone, so their customer service seems to be pretty good.

If you get Primus to connect the line, I think they charge 60 quid,

Webnet , I'm only going by my own experience with Madasafish. If it helps somebody get reconnect for free then it's a bonus for them. There is no contract so they're free to leave at anytime. If you read on the website the only time they'll charge you £105 is if there is no fixed telephone line at your property. Don't think they're charging you for
the reconnect. I wasn't charged so it must be their policy not too.

I agree with you with Plusnet they offer a good service, They're one of the only company left to offer standalone broadband I know exactly what my bill is going to be with them at the end of the month, other providers as a bundle you end up with a bill that more than expected. I hate that! I sure a lot of other people would agree with me too. The Primus & Plusnet package together is a good combination never had to complain to either of them. these too company's were the cheapest for me because I'm in (Broadband Area 1) Every other company throttles me in price if I was to change.

One mistake I have made tho ... i decided to leave Primus for a BT Basic line @£4.95 line rental I wished I never moved... you wouldn't believe to trouble I'm going thru with them,

Since Apr when I joined they've overcharging me and continuously cutting my line off at no fault of my own. I have to keep phoning the to explain what they have done & the bill incorrect. They reconnect me asking for no money at all coz they know they're in the wrong, then a month later cut me off again... I can't believe it! I've threaten to leave them . they offered me discount for there mistakes .
but it doesn't put it right tho does it. Also they're the only company to charge 3 mths in advance. I told them this, she argued with me & say they all do! What a LIE!! ... You can Imagine how heated it got. oO

Avoid BT at all cost people unless you got a lot of time on your hands .

Just coz they're owed by BT it doesnt necessary mean they are BT or give you the same rubbish deals or service.

Primus is owned by Talktalk whats your point here?
