Another little priced CD from the little singer/songwriter

The Artist Formerly Known As Prince releases albums a bit like Stephen King writes books; with mind-boggling speed and an equal measure of royal success and passionate failure. Onthe groove- savvy DIAMONDS AND PEARLS, the diminutive one made an impressive rebound after the less-than-stellar GRAFFITI BRIDGE, with his most consistent and vibrant album since 1987's brilliant SIGN O' THE TIMES. Apparently aware of the powerful influence of groups like NWA, Public Enemy and Tribe Called Quest, Prince tried his hand at the harder genre, unleashing vocalist Tonio M. for cocky raps on songs like "Daddy Pop" and "Willing and Able".
As always, Prince indulges happily in his erotic wanderings, with the guttural grooves and propositions of "Cream" and "Gett Off" leaving little to the imagination. However, it is the laid-back groove ofthe insightful and simply sung "Money Don't Matter" which is the quiet highlight of DIAMONDS AND PEARLS. A thoughtful reflection on disillusionment in love, business and politics,"Money Don't Matter" is perhaps Prince's most overlooked four-minute masterpiece.

another great double prince album at a great price. well worth getting, although if you are torn between this and SOTT, then SOTT is the one to get as that's one of his very best albums. i'm half torn between that and another double album, 1999 as my favorites

Sign of the times and 1999 for me

If you have to buy one get Sign O The Times instead:)
Its an OK album, but unfortunately think it did signal the start of a period of his career where albums had too much filler. Gems like Money Dont Matter, Strollin and cream are surrounded by dross like Jughead

Lovesexy and SOTT are his best albums by a wde margin in my humble opinion. Unfortunately Diamonds. can't be termed great. His next truly great album after those two was Rainbow Children which is an astonishing piece of work in its creativity, originality and concept. The 90s albums are too full of filler - apart from the one he hates the most Chaos and Disorder

it's a single cd, but it was a double lp, back from the last few days when albums were usually around 45 mins in length. prince was knocking out the double and triple albums like no tomorrow, filling up singles with b sides etc and still giving loads of tracks away and people having hits with them
