Is Epson the brand of printer that have the cheapest 3rd party ink (widely/easily) available? all the All-in-ones seems around the same price with similar functions, but really need to have cheap ink (especially black ink) for repeating photocopies etc.

my Lexmark of about 3 years started to give errors a few months ago, & now the error won't go away after cleaning the cartridge & checking for spills (been refilling ink my self) so need a replacement, I've read on HUKD & around the net that Epson seems to have the cheapest ink available?
#6
Not sure I just found the deal and got one for myself. I only need it for the scanning really was looking for some ink but went for this instead.

I've got a Pixma ip5200 for my usual printing which needs ink

That's a little out of my price range unless I could return the £80.31 epson and keep the free one. Thank you for the post.

laser printers are great, but a bit on the pricey side, do laser printers still need ink to work?

From Ink Emporium:

"Compatible Epson T089 Series Ink Cartridges (1 each of black, cyan, magenta, & yellow).
Price: £6.88 (Excluding: V.A.T. at 17.5%) "

Singly they are £3.33 + vat (Free Delivery).

Sounds like a good deal. The 6200L gets an average score from PC Pro "Verdict: A laser for under £100, but with high running costs and average pace and quality. " - for me the speed wouldn't be a problem "In our standard speed tests, it averaged 20ppm " and greyscale printing problems is less important than text printing "Text was excellent, even at tiny sizes, and blacks in general were impressively crisp and solid. "

The biggest concern would be the running costs "The Epson is one of the most expensive monochrome lasers to run: its price per page was 70% higher than the £114 Brother and, despite the low purchase price, total cost of ownership over 50,000 pages ends up around 40% more than the Kyocera. "

They use powder which is heated to bond with the paper, excellent quality print and large quantity per refill.

Replacement toner is cheap if you diy, but expensive (£40 to £100) to buy manufacturers replacement toner cartridges.
#17
Purchased the epson printer this week it's quite nice and suits my needs.
#18
I've had three Epsons in the past (810, 830 and a CX5400) and I wouldn't touch them EVER again, complete an utter junk. They work for about 6mths and then just clog, I had to use almost a full set of inks just to free them last time and I was using originals.... unless they have sorted their problems I would say that you are best to buy a HP or Canon.

You use toner in a laser printer.
If you have a printer where you can refill the cartridge with toner, it works out really cheap.
You can just buy the toner. (£10 or less for a big bottle)
I have a Samsung laser printer, and you can do that :)

If you have a laser printer, and you can't refill it, then it will be expensive.
You then have to buy a new cartridge, which will set you back around £35- £50

no deliver to norn ireland, ah well!

No stores near me, well there's Brentford but collect in store is not available and even if it were they only hold the item until closing time tomorrow - I work and I'm not up for paying through the nose for delivery.

Good price though, no doubt - voted hot.

my ink ran out today, i buy a new 3 in 1 every year just for the ink! lol HOT
#23
I haven't ever bought a printer before... they do come with ink in, don't they?.

VOTED ICE COLD - Do not buy this or any Epson Printer. Seems a bargain at £40 but you only get tester inks in the box.............therefore you'll need to buy inks pretty soon after and they cost around £36 for all the inks!!!!

Same price as the printer again so this is really costing you close to £80 before you get started and a further £40 for all you inks every time you need filling up!!

DO NOT use compatible inks - especially with Epsons. They have fixed Print Heads and the compatible inks block the Printer Head and as you cant replace........you may as well throw the printer in da bin!

For the best deal at the moment, look at the Kodak ESP3 and ESP5. They are around £48 & £78 respectivley, however they use less ink than the other manufacturers. The Tri-Colour ink cartridge costs around £9.99 plus £6.99 for a separate black that works just for your black text documents or get a combo pack for £16.

A lot more attractive than £36 or £48 or £56 which most of the Epson prniter packs costs at most places!!!

Remember - you only buy a printer once in 3 or 4 years...............it the inks you need to be cost effective as these are the itmes you are buying every few months etc.

You've been warned. The Kodaks are great and print superb quality photos, the others just cost so much to run.
#25
i usually get a year out of the test cartridges... ignore the low on ink warnings! printed all my wedding programmes off with the last one... these things last! not interested in it for photo printing.

No, you are talking "cods wollop". I have had the displeasure of owning 3 and ALL of our work ones have also blocked. If you use it weekly you can get away with it but if not the jets WILL block. Consider that people may buy on your recommendation and make sure you give proper advice, Epsons suck big time and I urge EVERYONE to think hard before buying this tripe (dont just take my word for it, google it and see.... :whistling:)

I have owned this printer for a couple of months, bought it from Currys Digital for £50

I've had no problems with it whatsoever and totally recommend it! I've bought 3rd party inks from ebay (All 3 colours for under £10), and the quality matches the standard cartridges. I love it! I've printed off absolutley loads of photos as well as a few documents. Buy it, this is a bargain price! :w00t: 9You do need to buy a USB cable though which is a bit of a downer) :x

It's better to add an item worth around £11 to get the order upto £60 and then use the voucher code found Here and you will get it for £30
#34
You've summed it up there!! Buy ONLY if you are going to use it LOTS, its when you allow the ink to dry that the printer is dead (unless you want to spend hours taking it to bits and manually cleaning the things yourself!).

All three of mine worked brilliantly at first, then its just clean, clean, clean.......

Rubbish! I have had 2 Epsons in the past, the present one is an R200 that I have used for more than three years with nothing but compatibles costing around 0.99 each. Never had a blockage and the image is always clear.

I'm recommending my Mother-in-law to purchase this one, I certainly wouldn't do this if I thought that there would be a problem, as I am the one who will have to sort it out.

Look, Im clearly NOT the only one on here who is ADVISING against Epsons, just google "epson blocked" and see. If people go out and buy them it does not concern me, Im just trying to highlight that they are cack. If you have had a good experience then great.... Im just saying that out of 14... yes 14 Epsons we have at work AND my 3 NONE currently work... its hardly a glowing review :whistling:
