Lexmark CS820de workgroup colour laser printer with 8000-page toners - Printerland - £226.00

I'm going to click "expire" on this deal. The price has been inching up as stock levels fall. Very fast printer, enormously heavy though. It's the included toners that make this interesting to m…

Unfortunately it's gone up now at Printerland @£214, so I purchased at the Printer Experts link above for the same previous price £172. Look forward to breaking my back when it arrives :-)
Thanks to the OP. Fed up of fighting the losing battle of using cheap generic inks and toners in smaller home printers, I took the plunge.

No matter what you read, nothing can prepare you for the size and weight of the beast. Unpacking it is a monumental challenge, never mind carrying it through the house to its destination. I woke up this s morning and for a while couldn't work out why I was covered in bruises, then I realised it is from lifting and carrying this printer.

Not tried photo printing on glossy paper yet, hoping it is better than the dell 1760 it replaced but will try soon.

Only thing I would add this the previous posts is that network setup assumes some capability of computers. Connecting through Ethernet took me a while to work out as I couldn't find any instructions anywhere. On home printers, you usually get a tool to help you through the process but this is an office printer and assumes you know what to do. For a while it would not pick up an IP address from the router. Finally I disabled IPV6 which was on my default, rebooted and it got an address allocated. In the end I assigned a fixed up address and setup the driver on windows 10 to use this port instead of the default port. This seemed to make a massive difference to the communication speed, almost instantaneous. On the mac, the default settings seemed to work perfectly. No need to purchase the wireless version if you have it connected via Ethernet to your wireless router, works fine wired or wireless throughout the house and the iPhones automatically see it as an AirPrint printer.

The main issue I can see having is when it has used up all the toner, god knows how I am going to get this down to the tip to dispose of it, absolutely dreading moving this again. I would recommend asking someone to help you and not do this on your own.

Since there aren't any real reviews of this printer I thought I'd I just write my first impressions..
Firstly, Printerland seemed very good. I've dealt with them before without any trouble. I got the standard call after web ordering enquiring if I absolutely positively didn't want some extras. They suggested the WiFi option (hard to push toner on a printer that comes with 8k toners). They didn't offer a mid-flight champagne or travel insurance.
Delivery was free next day - no problems on receipt. Bear in mind this printer is heavy (77.5 kg boxed) and arrives on a wooden pallet. I had to wait a day to install because it's a two man lift.
Under Windows 10 it installed without even trying - just appeared in the list even without clicking "add printer..". Like many printers today it was discovered by mDNS/DNS-SD. Only minor niggle is it assumed Paper Tray 1 had "Vinyl paper" in it. Quickly remedied.
Under Linux (Ubuntu 14.04), similarly a transparent install but I did have to click "Add Printer.." (oh, the humanity!). It presents as a Postscript printer. I'm still tweaking this as it seems to default to B/W and the default dithering setting is a tad off (the driver has "Printer Default" everywhere, so that may need a changing).
Usage - the printer runs Android so the UI is snappy and very easy to use. The web interface is also excellent and fully featured. There's even an option to VNC into the printer's control panel (the Android one, I mean), but I haven't tried it.
The printer is fast. Crazy fast. It can multiply a user's errors faster than any I've seen in a long time.
It's a little louder than home printers, but for a heavy duty office printer it's average, perhaps a little on the quiet side. Under heavy load however it may kick the fan into high gear and *may* get louder, although I haven't experienced this yet (just during power-on self-test).
Print quality - the jury is still out. Initial opinion is that it's like most colour lasers - for text it's excellent. Pin sharp. For photos, the colours are a little posterised, although I haven't attempted any calibration or optimisation. It's great on pamphlets and powerpoints.
This printer is generally a beast. It's heavy. So heavy, in fact, that it almost bends light around itself. Keep babies and small pets away lest they get caught in the gravity well. I fully expect an asteroid belt of paper clips orbiting the printer after a few weeks of regular use.
Overall, I'm pleased. The toners, although very high capacity, seem a little expensive as a single payment cost (£1533 for 22k/33k toner *pack*), but bear in mind CMYK come as separate toners, so unless you're constantly printing rainbows and My Little Ponies all the 8k CMY toners that came with the printer should last a very very long time, and the 8k K toner is only 170 GBP (inc), or 220GBP (inc) for the 22k K toner. 22k is 44 reams of paper, which is about three trees. This printer also has a built in duplexer (which works great).
Current best thinking - it was a good buy. Still tweaking photo settings, but generally no deal breakers and no complaints. It's a back breaker and may need a structurally sound table.
I've just read your comment. It's pretty accurate, and very entertaining. Thanks
Just an update on my earlier comment on printing photos.. they're not as bad as I earlier thought.
If the colours in the file are extreme, bordering on HDR, then yes, there's some posterization, but with the few ordinary, unprocessed, photos that I've printed since the subtle shades and skintones have come out better than on default settings on an Epson WF-5620DWF inket (AIO).
Anyway, if anyone has any questions then I'll check this thread for a few more days.

Edit: Ah right, I see where the 0.007 comes from, it's using the 33k black toner.
Yes, sorry - my message had a typo - £220 (inc VAT) for 33k Black toner, not 22k. The 22k page count is for the super size CMY toners.
Where is the £220 price for the 33k black, I only see it for £235+VAT(£282)? Thanks.
Hmm. Perhaps I misread. You're right - it says 235+VAT=282.00. Or maybe I mistyped 282.00 as 220.00 and copied without thinking/checking.
Or maybe they've changed the price. I remember thinking it was significantly cheaper than elsewhere and being surprised it's only £30 (with VAT) more than the 8k.
Probably my mistake. Sorry.
No worries. Problem is I'm stuck between a workhorse like this and a midrange small business printer. If this was £100 more I'd probably not be looking at it! :-)
I know what you mean. I couldn't justify buying for £900 (inc), as it's priced at EBuyer and most other places..
but at £175, I can live with that, especially considering the super cheap toner.
I also considered the Lexmark models a wrung or two down - and they're £95 (cs410dn) or £118 (cs720dn).
The cs720dn might make sense, but for sixty quid more I get a hernia and higher capacity inks (not only a tad cheaper, but less changes). On the other hand, the 720 is still very fast @ 38 ppm (820 is 57 ppm), smaller, lighter (not that important) and has otherwise identical specs:

It might suit you better.

Have confirmed that this is Cloud print ready as well as airprint so have gone for it.
Works out at 0.015p per page if it lasts 12,000 pages.

Also same price from Printerland through amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lexmark-C748DE-Colour-Laser-Printer/dp/B0085WEEBG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467575886&sr=8-1&keywords=C748de

LOL, EACH individual cartridge costs the same as the printer, I'm out X)
When do you envisage running out of the inclusive toner that comes delivered with the printer?!
After about 3 days. The price is likely 95% for the toner, as Lexmark printers themselves are bulbous and prone to expensive repair.
That's what the warranty is there for!

You should just quit while the deal is still at -23, nobody is gonna buy this bulbous obese of a piece of printer.
Is the Bluetooth speaker for hands-free use while you wait endlessly on the phone for Lexmark to troubleshoot it? :D
If you have the space this is a good deal as the large toners make the cost per page very cheap.

I have a CS510de that came with 10K toners and it is still going strong after 18 months use.
Although again these printers are huge/heavy. They are meant for offices, schools and the like. Not ideal for home unless you have the space and don't live a couple floors up.

Carton Dimensions 545 x 588 x 553 mm - 30.1 kg
Apparently you can also claim a free speaker. Just click the terms and conditions link. This is a crazy good price though, it does cost over £700/$1000 elsewher!

That OKI you were looking at is only £149.99 on Ebuyer without cashback, and has a 3 year warranty.

Nice spot.

I think I've pretty much ruled out the oki, looks too dated and uses chips.

I've come across the HP M277dw and HP M477dw - the latter having automatic duplex scan.
I'm trying to decide between the HP and Brother.
According to urefilltoner.co.uk the re-filling costs are cheaper for HP than for Brother.
I wish I wasn't so damn indecisive! - how hard can it be to choose a printer!

Please note that printing to ANY Brother printer, from Android, will result in poor quality output (jagged text and geometric shapes). PDFs printed via Android are mostly unreadable, as text often becomes an illegible smudged mess, and graphics become artifact laden. It's a known issue, and Brother don't anticipate releasing remediatory firmware (and software update) within the next 18 months (from Jan 2016) at least.

Anyone reading this, please beware! Amazon are not an authorised Brother supplier and therefore you would not qualify for the cashback.
Interesting - they certainly qualified as a reseller in 2013 when I claimed cashback for my Brother laser printer. I'd agree about Amazon marketplace resellers, but Amazon themselves are normally OK as they supply UK stock.
This is from their T @ C's ...
"This Brother UK Ltd (BUK) promotion is valid only on the above Qualifying Products which must
be purchased from a Brother Authorised Dealer within the United Kingdom, details of which are

I actually rang and ask and they gave me an unambiguous No to amazon as a Brother Authorised Dealer

As said by NoFinPhish, it does misfeed on duplexing on heavier (100gsm) paper, so be warned. Excellent build quality otherwise.

I use 90gsm Lyreco Premium paper, so it's not just the heavier stuff.
Usually not an issue for the odd double-sided document though
One of the big things missed by most comments is that this comes with full 2000-image toners, which is worth quite a bit over the usual pathetic starter toners offered with cheap printers. Also comes with free 3 year on-site warranty (needs to be registered withing 28 days of purchase).

Makes you wonder when one Laser printer gets less than £10 knocked off it's voted a hot deal, this one gets £150 knocked off - around 50% and a 3 year on site warranty thrown in and it's stone cold !

Can anyone explain why ?

Nice price for the machine, not so much for the consumables.
You'd be better off with the Dell 1760nw from ebuyer for £99.99 although it does not have auto-duplex.http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dell-c1760nw-wireless-colour-laser-printer-free-80gsm-a4-printer-paper-500-sheets-2309419

Full set of toner - non OEM £55 and they only do 700 sheets, which means you need 3 to compare with the OKI - £165
Full set of Genuine Oki toners from the same supplier £151

Therefore the Oki is a much better deal than the Dell which is out of stock now anyway !
I have one of these at work. My company bought 3 recently and they were only about £120 each from memory, not sure where they were bought from. I was surprised to get a duplex printer for that price.
I'm actually pretty happy with it, but the duplex printing is a bit hit-and-miss. Try printing out a ream of double-sided pages and it does occasionally miss-feed.

Thanks.
Interesting to see the "cold" votes, based on the potential to save a further few coppers at ebuyer/leo. For what it's worth, I've placed my order and the customer service thus far has been exceptional. When I originally saw their advert, it suggested a £40 cashback, which should have stated £30. Am I right in saying it comes with the high yield toner.. not additional toner? and the £174.59 is with the cashback already taken into consideration

Yep, the cashback is already taken into account. Spoke to a sales rep on the phone earlier and he said it comes with the 2,000 page colour cartridges (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) and a 3,000page black cartridge. These are retail ones they sell on the site (http://www.printerland.co.uk/Toner-Rainbow-Pack-CMY-2K-Black-3K--P130297.aspx). The high capacity cartridges are 8,000 pages.

Hope it helps!

It's great in pretty much every way - easy to update the firmware, tons of ways to connect to it (Wifi, Ethernet, Google Drive, Dropbox, Facebook, Evernote, Google Cloud Print, AirPrint etc etc), good quality print (greys not fantastic but I had a higher DPI printer before that I was used to, and you wouldn't be printing photos to frame on this anyway - ideal office machine).

It is £200 but that is 1500 Colour prints at average coverage + 2.5K for black.
Inkjets only do a couple of hundred per cartridge, and a lot less if you don't
use it often as the ink drys up and it has to flood the head with ink to get it
working again. Also toner is dry and waterproff and does not smudge unlike
standard inks.

A printers only cheap if the toners are cheap, these seem to be around £200 a set!
all colour lasers cost a lot to run so the more you can save buying it the better.

You can get a Dell 1250 for £74, a set of compatible toners will cost around £30.
Misleading as VAT not included, £101.98 with VAT

its £101 including VAT. I agree, i bought a xerox printer from these guys - very good value, lasted 2 years but ultimately it was cheaper to ditch it and buy a new one that buy the inks

under 'whats in the box':
Samsung ML-3310D

Black Toner Cartridge 2000 pages
depends on your interpretation of the decimal point! but yes you are right 1p a sheet ish.. never intended to mislead.

Quick search revealed the following toner refills.

£139.10 for 10,000 pages of print, 0.01313 pence per page, seems like good value to me but have not made comparisons with other machines. I have considered the cost versus the 2,000 page refill and that works out at more than double this price.

Isn't this 1.39p per page?
