Just been into my local asda and got the above for £50. (Galashiels, south Scotland,)would assume its nationwide available.

Thought this is very cheap as i couldn't find it cheaper than about £80 a couple of weeks ago.

This is still quite expensive for such an overated TV series.

£50 for 3 seasons is daylight robbery, when you consider UK TV series normally cost about £7 each.

The same goes for other american tv shows such as Lost and without a trace.

I walked into HMV last week and series one of without a trace was £69.99 (yes i typed that right)

Not voting hot or cold, but unless these come near a tenner a series I'm holding onto my money ;-)

A typical UK TV series is around 6 - 8 episodes lasting 20 - 30 minutes... a typical US TV series is around 20 - 24 episodes lasting 40 - 60 minutes.

How can you therefore compare the prices?
#7
a decent price for a good show. yes you can argue they are more expensive than UK shows, but they usually offer about twice as many episodes compared to UK show dvds.
work it out per hour of entertainment and US shows tend to be much better value.

Just an example for you...
Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps...
Series 1 - 6 episodes
Series 2 - 6 episodes
Series 3 - 10 episodes
Series 4 - 8 episodes
Series 5 - 14 episodes
Series 6 - 10 episodes
Series 7 - 8 episodes

Lost...
Series 1 - 24 episodes
Series 2 - 23 episodes
Series 3 - 22 episodes
Series 4 - 13 episodes (Writer's strike)

So think of it like this... the first 4 seasons of Two Pints was 10 hours of TV... whereas the first 4 seasons of Lost (even including the writer's strike) was 54 hours 40 minutes. So by that logic alone they should be 5 times more expensive!, So if you say a UK series is £7... it is fair enough to charge £35 for a US series.
It's just the way it has always been, even Only Fools & Horses had only 7 episodes in it's first season.

Exactly. And as a Briton, I can say that most of our TV is absolute balls compared to American series.

still very overpriced if you ask me, no wonder theres so many people downloading TV shows

£7 for a UK TV series as you say... 7 Episodes... £1 per episode... or 5p per minute
£50 for 3 Prison Break series... 57 episodes... 87p per episode... or 2.2p per minute

Not overpriced... FACT

Agreed... but I was just backing up my side of the arguement with solid fact.

Voted HOT! great price & my comment is final!:p

looks at House series 1-4 which cost myself £45 and by definition is better value!

1-3 were £9.99 at one point and i recently got series 4 for about £14.99
#21
Series 1 was good but it went downhill from there.
#22
everyone has differing opinions, but this is a good price for 3 seasons, even if one of them was a half season.

the thing is, i never buy these as its not the full set - season 4 is almost definately the final season, so next year the full set will probably only be £50.

the fact is i think US series are good value over UK ones, but some UK dvds are £12 for 6 episodes - thats £2 per episode and no series is worth that. US series are usually 20-26 episodes for £35 - still a bit much but a lot better.

i think 50p per episode is my maximum limit. unless it has amazing replay value like animated sitcoms, curb etc.

example i only just got battlestar galactica 1-3 boxset for £17 - wouldnt pay more than that.

oh and on the download side of things, i think its wrong if you are a fan of a show and simply download and stick it onto a dvd-rw.

me personally, i will download simpsons, my name is earl, family guy, the office, the big bang theory and american dad each week. i only do it as i love the shows and cant wait forever for the UK to be brought up to speed. but as soon as they are watched, they are deleted off my laptop, and when the dvds come out i get them. so i dont think im doing much wrong. with prison break i can wait 2 days so just watch it on sky.

so yeah if you wanna DL something with intent to keep, dont. if its so you can watch early and still buy the dvd when it comes out, then do it. that isnt really harming anyone.

If it is for your own personal use, there really isn't a distinction legally between downloading it to watch and then dispose of as opposed to downloading any keeping for archive purposes as far as I can imagine?

YOu might feel better about doing that but there really isn't any difference at the end of the day

Oh and I forgot to say - I'm from the Galashiels area (originally - be home for xmas!) hailing from Stow but went to school in Gala

I also watch PB but it's becoming somewhat of a drag in the later episodes and my interest is starting to wane.

Try a hard show like Oz for good "Prison" TV :D

Off topic but please do tell or post a link to the appropriate thread. I seems to have missed that one and the best I can find with the search is around £28.
