HI
I have just brought Pro evolution 6 for the xbox 360 today.

The release date isn't until tomorrow, this was brought from the Birmngham HMV so i'm not sure if this is just a mistake by that store but could be worth popping in to other HMV stores.

The price was £37.95 so cheaper than normal aswell.

Hope this helps someone.

I know its a little different, but when i preorder music etc it usually comes before its official release date :)
Good post though, thanks for sharing :)

Yes the guys at work here bought it from GAME yesterday (wednesday), looks like everyone is breaking release to try and beat the ASDA's and TESCO's. This is going to start an almighty s**t storm in MCV and the trade press.
#3
And i thought i was doing well getting it one day early. I wonder how they're getting away with bringing it out early then.
#4
Does anyone know if GameStation have the game on sale today as well?

Want to pick up their PGR+Wireless+(anygame for £30) XBOX360 deal

Ahh, a fellow MCV reader? :) Guaranteed to make the front page, surely!

Yes they do, they have Pro Evo and Fifa 07, I bought Fifa yesterday from Gamestation in Basingstoke. It's awesome :-)

Well, they won't be getting away with it, the companies selling it early will basically get a bitching from the publisher, and the buying guys will have a harder time getting a good deal for their respective company for the next release.
I'm surprised GAME were selling it early though, they're usually pretty good with release dates, either someone authorised it or a Christmas temp is going to get in trouble ;)

Has anyone pre-ordered from HMV online and received theirs? I ordered mine for the PSP and was wondering if I am likely to get a nice surprise when I get home?

Having worked there I only remember a couple of instances where GAME resolutely would not break the release date. Otherwise it was a case of moaning to head office that our competitors were selling it and we were losing valuable market share - Which we would have to prove by purchasing a copy from one of the rivals and fax a receipt to HO.

As far as I know GAME will never make the first move though out of respect for the publisher's release date.

Agreed. The Streetbreaker Hotline I'm sure gets all the grief from that, but they do respect the publisher's release date. Mostly because it will be a black mark against GAME when they go to broker a deal for the next game from that Publisher.

Crumbs! anyone read the review on Eurogamer? it gets a slating, basically a straight PS2 port with loads of stuff cut out. Not even replays and the online is supposedly better on the PS2 version.

The manual has not even been edited to reflect that areas have been cut out from the PS2 version. Still doubt it will stop anyone buying it.

I'll be waiting until next year when proper platform specific versions will be out, and get my 360 fix then. Needless to say, I'll wait until Sony fix the BlueRay drives before I even think of picking up a PS3.

I was under the impression that Game broke a few release dates a year or two ago and got into trouble for it?
Anyway, I don't think all companies will get a bollocking for selling early, probably just the original perpetrator who, I'm told, was Woolworths.

Hehe, bloody Woolworths. I'm not sure it's still the case but the staff used to be incredibly clueless about the gaming section of the store.

Admittedly a couple of years ago I instigated a couple of city wide release date breakers, simply by going in and whether they had a title in stock. Then you could coherse them into selling it to you by acting all innocent and equally clueless about why it's not on the shelf. Inevitably they would retrieve one from the store room and the internal system doesn't flag up the point it is not yet for sale.

Immediately afterwards you flash it round their competitors and Bob's your uncle

Isn't the new FIFA on XBOX360 specifically built to take advantage of the console ? Thought I read some guff like that?

Certainly is, but you pay the price by getting half the features (a running trend with next-gen EA releases). Also, many reviewers have claimed that the current gen versions in some respects have more refined mechanics than the 360 version :(

Boo hoo, all of a sudden this exclusivity isn't so rosie.
#20
Dont like what im reading on the Eurogamer review, how disapointing that you cant do something even as basic as save replays.....

How am i going to show off my wonder goals now?

Konami has proper burst my bubble!

hmm.. still undecided about whether to get FIFA or PES

Me too. I have to say FIFA is looking ever so slightly in front at the mo. I'm a big fan of PES but the half baked effort this time round is a bit of a p*** take from Konami. That said, no Championship on 360 FIFA, so no Luton Town for me :-(

Aargh the agony of choice. Maybe I should just stick with PES5 and wait for PES7 or FIFA08

Anyway, PC World is doing Pro Evo 6 on 360 for £34.99 using collect in store, which is the best price I've seen, if anyone is interested. you may have to wait until tomorrow to get it though.
#23
I've played a demo of FIFA on my mates XBOX360 and it was pretty good.
I've only seen PES being played in a shop, but didn't get the chance to have a go myself, so not sure how the controls felt. Both were visually great.
#24
I have always been a PES man but I guess the fact I havent got a 360 means this shouldnt affect me too much. However, it seems abit mad to think that a 360 with so much power has had bits stripped out.

Unfortunately the logistics of creating a fully fledged/featured next gen version for just one platform means it's not really worth the resources this time around. Things will certainly have changed next year, curses. :x

That I agree with, however doesnt mean that certain features should be stripped out, to quote someone off another forum 360 users have been given PES6 light version

Unfortunately we can probably point the blame at EA for giving the impression this sort of practice is acceptable. As much as i'd rather not say this does anyone believe 'hypothetically' that if the PS3 was the solitary next-gen console on the market they would have done the same? I fear not.

Oh well, at least everyone can dwell with the warm fuzzy feeling that they have paid for a great Konami Christmas party.
#28
Its a bit of a cheek having to buy a "cut-down" version - makes me wonder what you are paying for.....
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative for your Xbox 360 you can get the previous version PES 5 for the Xbox for £10.99 from HMV online.
Cheers

Quick question... do GAME still price match? Would love that £37 HMV price at GAME with my £10 worth of reward points!

*Sendit: £32.80 with voucher
*Foxy: £32.74 with quidco

A word of warning, might be worth trying before buying. On the gaming forums there's a lot of unhappy 360 owners. It's quite buggy and the lag on Live is poor.

I don't think so, but you can try, they used to only in towns with a genuine rival (GameStation etc.). Worth a go, most Managers would probably say if you want HMV's price, go to HMV, which is fair enough.
