halfords pro range is about the best you can get bar stuff like snap-on at big money and this is a knocking price - normally they are 20 notes when reduced, reserved and voted hot.

I have this set, and can't recommend it highly enough

I have it aswell, the old man was round the other day helping me with some bunk beds and he commented on how good it was, thought i'd look at getting him the same one and checked too find it back at £40 (I got mine last year for £15) well surprised to see it back at £15 so I can order him one for xmas.

I would have thought that rather than a load of screwdriver bits the deep sockets in this set would be better value at just £5 more.

Halfords Advanced Professional 18 Piece Socket Set 3/8"

Certainly more use for me.

Would anyone recommend this for car maintenance?

yes but its not an exhaustive set(no pun)
its only up to a 14MM
you will need to expand the set
#12
You won't get better for £15 but Bahco are better and cheaper compared to Halfords normal Pro range and prices.

Had mine for about 2-3years (1 hinge on box broke.. probably through my lack of care) brilliant piece of kit! like above, highly recommend for motorbike maintenance, fits nicely in tank bags and can do practically any job with it.
#22
Cheers OP, just reserved......really want the 150 piece but this'll do for now!
#23
Cheers for the headsup on this. My [cheap] 1/4" ratchet broke on me recently whilst repairing my lawnmower, so need a replacement - especially welcome is the 'professional' quality.

Got one reserved :)

But do they have a life time guarantee?
#25
They usually let you reserve then the staff go and look for it, can't find it, and they phone you to apologise and cancel your order (and journey).

This happens all the time when they have sunglasses on offer, as they get stolen/lost/broken apparently, so stock level on screen is wrong.

The 3/8" set don't seem to be on special offer, just a good set at a good price?

I've experienced that with them too. Fingers crossed that it doesn't happen this time then as just reserved one. Cheers.

Good luck finding the receipt when you come to needing to use that gaurantee. They are real stickers for it.

1/4" drive with a 14mm socket hanging off a tight bolt sounds like somethings gotta give, and it ain't gonna be the bolt !
#29
Well, I have just picked my set up this afternoon and have to say am really well pleased. The quality looks truly excellent and the ratchet [which I was particularly interested in] feels really solid and positive.

I think the word 'professional' is well justified in this instance.

cheers

Heat added.
#33
Good set - purchased

well worth £15, to buy the ratchet on it's own is £15 oO

Voted hot - now 400 degrees !
#34
Thanks OP managed to reserve one and collected - heated.

I was suprised by how dinky it is but, as other have said the quality looks good. I was advised by the guy at the desk that the lifetime guarantee applies to the bits and not the ratchet which has a 12 month guarantee.

Not had a chance to use it yet but, looks like a nice bit of kit.

I agree, the 1/4 inch drive is best for smaller socket sizes, that is why this only goes up to 14mm. Realistically a 3/8 inch or even a 1/2 inch drive is going to last longer and be able to do more demanding jobs.

I have this set too, had it for over 10 years, used at least once a day. I paid £40 for it back then, and with the work it has done I consider it a bargain at £40. At £15 its a serious no brainer! My ratchet is just STARTING to wear out. So just reserved one.
