No it's not crazy. It's actually crazy how the small number of people who have bough these expect them to be a success. They are NOT going to be. If you look beyond your gaming bubble and realise what's actually going on out there then you would soon agree.
The fact is the experience a Vita gives people is that of high quality graphics in a portable form factor. But graphics intensive gaming requires more development. That incurs more cost. The more development costs need a larger return on investment, that you only get from a large installed user base. The last figures I saw were something like only 2.2m sold worldwide as of October I think. That's pretty small. That's not going to attract developers to spend money making games for it. Developers will prefer to develop for platforms where there is the most money to be made - like the iOS App Store, which has hundreds of millions of users now with iPhones, iPods and iPads.
Why do you want to have a big screen experience on a tiny screen? Most people have a home console and a huge TV to play an already huge library of high quality games on, while sitting on a comfy sofa.
The Japanese are loosing touch with the west. They understand their market where most of the population commute to work into the cities everyday via the subway/train, where they do spend a lot of time mobile gaming. The west mostly commute in cars and so can't sit and play a mobile game in the same way.
Also the cost of Vita titles (from new) is very high in comparison to the App Store which also doesn't bode well for the future of the device against the relatively cheap cost on other App Stores. But again they have to charge a lot because the devs are trying to recoup the high development costs.
The Vita was sadly doomed from it's inception due to the lack of understanding and ignorance of Sony. It will only get cheaper along with the already released games. But don't expect much in the way of new titles in the coming years.
