Good deal in my opinion.

Approx £30 cheaper for non perfect packaging.
#2

Seems a good price!
#3
Thats more like it!!

I got a DS near Xmas from ChoicesUK (advertised as damaged box) and the box was a bit ripped but the console + contents were brand new.
#5

you want bundled games, I'd rather pick my own games...

This is very tempting... but I'll wait for now

need a HD TV first
#7

I don't trust 'damaged box' - sounds like a returned item, so probably used - how else would they have a bunch of them (unless the pallette fell off the fork lift or something).

I'd rather pay the £20 extra for a 'new' one...
#10
Presumably still comes with 12 month warranty.
#11
Don't forget Quidco @ 5%

something may have bumped the box or ripped the cardboard, i'm guessing that the console is well packaged inside in polystyrene or something to avoid damage.
#13
RRP 259.99??? is that true or they getting a price drop?

Yes and even worse they may(proberly) of been dropped, also is the guarantee a full year ?.
#15
yes but still for £20 extra you get a pefect one this is not worth the worry as looks like they cant get rid of them

£30 for a bit of cardboard you're only going to put in the recycling bin?

Actually, I find holding on to the box of any electrical appliance makes sure its worth a LOT more when I come round to selling it on as I invariably do...
#18
Well looking at their site, they done sell just the console for 259.99 anyway, its 279.99.
Worth it if its got its 12 month warranty.
#19
Madness - who would buy this?

Box ripped = boxes not looked after.

Saving only 30 quid?
#20
yes thats true ,

its just not worth it !!!

But if it comes with the same warranty as a new one, what's the problem?
#22
There is no info saying it does .....

#23
Not bad if it has a full 12 month Sony warranty.
Not so good if it doesn't - it would essentially be just a secondhand console then.

They must be customer returns as they have a 14 days returns policy with no apparent requirement to keep items sealed.

#24
yes they are returns
#25
Having previously worked for said company, its just a box thats slightly damaged. Usually theres a mark or slight tear thats happend in transit, but because its slightly damaged they can't sell it as new stock, hense the reduced price.

There brand new but the box, maybe slightly worn in a corner or so. If your after a cheap PS3 this is an absolutely bargain!

Thanks for the info. Out of interest what do they do with customer returns where the box has been unsealed?

On a side note, John Lewis, Argos and Play (at least used to) package consoles in a thin plastic or paper wrapping, often damaging the box, yet they sold them as new and with presumably few complaints as they continue to pack them like this.

best to buy from a shop then you can take back whenever you want less hassel than online

Playstation3 Consoles and Bundles

We hope your Playstation3 console or bundle deal arrives in perfect condition but if you receive your console or bundle and there is a problem please read the instructions below for information on what to do.

My Playstation3 console wont work? What should I do?

In the first instance you should contact the Sony Customer Services Help Line on 08705 998877.
Their operators will carry out a diagnostic fault check and may be able to help you fix the fault without any need to return your console.

I have called Sony and my Playstation3 console still will not work. What next?

If Sony cannot help you then please call us on our Returns Help Line 0870 400 3845.
We will either arrange for your console to be collected from you or give instructions on what to do next.

http://www.choicesuk.com/helpcentre.aspx/return

Also by law are you not able to return under distance selling regulations within a given time period if you are not happy?

Wouldn't buy one personally, but if you weigh up the savings against the preparation for a little hassle if the savings doesn't work out for you, I guess it can be a good deal. I personally wouldn't want the hassle or a PS3 currently. So from me remains unvoted.
#29
Not going to vote either way on this as I can see why people would want to go for this. But personally, I wouldn't touch it. As others have said, not enough discount for the potential problems you may be buying into and Qudico doesn't apply to hardware sales from this company.

I'd rather go for the Play.com deal - £280 including Devil May Cry 4 with the 5% discount code (£266) and a further 4% on Quidco (£255.36) and that's a brand new console and decent game, no question over warranty or anything else, for a comparable price.
#30
<10% for a damaged box doesn't seem like a massive discount to me. OK, the box doesn't really matter, and it's nice to get the extra £20, but you might expect more for damaged goods.
#31
yeah get the gta pack on ps3 for £284 thats a better deal
#32
proberly, lol ah, dear some people's spelling makes you laugh. I'd go for the other bundles... you can always sell the game, although DMC 4 is a good game, so is GTA4

Have to say I agree.

This is probably a good deal, but it is a lot of money to risk if things go wrong.
#34
Can't see the risk personally. If things go wrong, send it back.

If I hadn't already bought a PS3, I'd go for it.
#35
These are'nt as "damaged" as you may think, odd tears on box where stickers been removed etc. I know because I walked past them everyday for 6 weeks or so.
#36
does this come with 12months cover ?

this seems strange how many damaged PS3 boxes do they have? If they got a damaged shipment, they could easily just return them to sony for some newly packaged ones.

something doesnt seem right.
#38
sounds to good to be true ,

these sound like returns reboxed as they would of just returned them !!!

I presume like with the DS deals, you have to bear in mind that Choices closed as a retailer and just has its online arm now, therefore you can assume that existing stocks from the retail shops are absorbed here. Transported, stickered old stocks etc etc bound to get some box damage in the process.

No idea, they were unopened when we sold them, but Choices have opened them to check to see if they work by the look of it.
