Those saps bagged themselves free 46" Sony Bravia HD TVs and a taxi home - wish Id been a sap and gone! :w00t:

Well i guess Sony has to do something to make the press think ppl are queing up all night for the PS3's eh

When you get free publicity, whats a few Tv's thrown in for good measure.

I even like the fact Microsoft didn't see fit to drop the price of the 360 to compete with the launch of the PS3, they knew what would happen and saw no reason to compete.

I have always been a Sony fan, and i'll buy in a month when there £300
#7
If you get them from LX direct you can get 20% off your first order, its already been posted in a thread here somewhere. So that makes it something like £358.
#8
I may consider it when its around £300 lol...

I went in at Midnight and got mine, mainly to ensure I got my copy of Casino Royale for free and partly because I was that eager to get one asap and unleash its powers!

Oh and with the dropping the price thing, it's just a price war between companies as is expected. The fact is, if Microsoft had released enough 360's for demand then they would also have been dropped in price quite quickly because every shop wants to outsell it's rivals and if that mean by knocking a little off the price that's what they will do. Why do you think Tesco are selling bikes for £35 at the moment? It will take people away from Argos to buy the same quality bike at half the price and make people look around Tesco at what else they have to offer etc, it's all business!

If anyone can point me in the direction of cheap Blu-Ray movies inc postage please do as well! I really want to see what this machine can do! The games look fantastic in High Def, need to see movies in it too though!

P.s. Watch out with lx direct, they have a nack of offering and reserving the rights to not give what they offer. For instance they occasionally give out codes which don't apply to electricals etc, so read the T+C's before jumping in!

Only if they were in the 1st 100 in London, no-one else anywhere else got anything - in fact if they'd waited 2 days they could have saved £26! I agree, I wish I'd been at the London event, but anywhere else. fugedaboutit!

probably get one on flea bay if you wanted for under £400 including delivery.

new rules on there concerning selling uk ps3.

it is always nice to know that a company who thrives on capitalism can alter and stifle free trade when ever it feels threatend. another great publicity trophy for the nice sony people. 1st they ban selling of foreign ps3 now they restrict trade on the uk console by ordering fleabay what to do.

Due to the high demand and limited supply of the Sony PlayStation 3 gaming systems, eBay is taking strong measures to protect both buyers and sellers within our community.
Once the PS3 has been released throughout Europe on March 23rd, 2007, you must comply with the following requirements in order to sell one:

You must offer PayPal as the only payment method.
You must be PayPal verified and link your eBay account to your PayPal account. Find out how to become PayPal verified. If you already have a PayPal verified account, you need to link it to your eBay account. Find out how to link your eBay and PayPal accounts.
One-day listings are not allowed.
New sellers cannot list using the Buy It Now (Fixed Price) option.
In order to list more than two PS3 consoles you must have more than 50 feedback, of which at least 98% must be positive.
We thank you for your understanding and we appreciate your continuing support in helping to keep eBay a great place to buy and sell.
Regards

I'm with you, it's still over £100 too expensive, even if it does run Blu-rry (one of the two possible movie formats).

Best to wait for the £100 price cut in October that everyones on about.

Give it a month before its £199, I hate $ony theyre rubbish...

...actually I've got a PS3 its pretty cool, loving it so far, but all consoles are cool, lets all get on! If youre silly enough to buy a PS3 for £400 with less games than the xbox, and being forced to have the BRdrive like me thats fair enough, its your money. If youre silly enough to buy a 360 + Wireless adaptor + HD Drive + Memory Card adaptor + 12 Months Live + Battery charging kit + Anything else Microsoft can think of to make more money in smaller installments god knows how much youve spent on that lot, who cares, is your money! Lets not argue there's too much fighting and war in the world already...

Why shouldn't ebay stop this? I think it's wrong that people buy items such as this to primarily rip other people off.

This is why you can't sell football tickets on ebay, clubs have made it clear to ebay that if they are found selling their tickets they can be taken to court over it, which means ebay have to be very strict on who sells what, and that's the way it should be.

I have a load of football tickets in my drawer which could sell for a good couple of hundred each if I went to the right people, ebay being where the right people are to mug off, but it just doesn't seem the right thing to do! And i'm glad ebay are getting told what they can't sell on there and having to stop this.

Another example with football tops is that if a seller is found selling a Tottenham top from Thailand or Hong Kong without saying it is not official they will have it removed if you complain to ebay, because it's illegal. Should happen to PS3 sellers because there are a lot of people trying to make money out of nothing and con people into buying with payment methods that can't be refunded, hence ebay saying paypal only.

The sellers should be banned from ebay in my opinion.

In all fairness, as good as ebay can be, theyve never been a particularly moral company - their fees and paypal fees ontop are testimony to that! :x Its weird that theyre trying to take the moral highground on that issue yet still ripping off sellers every day. When's that new Google equivalent coming? I heard it would rival ebay?
#18
True, they also have a great thing where if you do get ripped off by another user they tend to just point you in the direction of paypal customer services to claim the money back rather than them getting involved!

buying a physical electrical item is completely different compaired to a ticket to something that is not physically 'there'.
you can own a ticket to a concert, however you can still be refused into the concert venue, the concert could be cancelled and it is used only once.
the console once purchsed , is yours to do with what you want. as far as i know, the laws stopping ticket touts do not apply for people hanging around outside computer shops, asking if someone wants to buy a ps3.

Before I buy one, I want some games! I'd pay £425 if it was worth having, at the moment though it isn't. I'm also not happy about Europeans gettign the shaft in every way possible from Sony. First Lik-Sang, then delaying our launch, then removing the Emotion Engine. I'm glad that it's coem back roudn to teach them a lesson.

For thes reasons I will probably get a 360 in the near future, maybe a Wii too.

As for eBay, I think you should be able to buy and sell what you like - if the seller agrees to sell, and the buyer is prepared to pay the price, what is wrong with that? If its all consensual then there isn't a problem from where I stand.
#23
Looks like ebay will push both buyers/sellers into a deeper black market.

As for Sony, the behaviour they show is very typical of them and nothing new. People power is what it comes down to at the end of the day and Sony fail to realise that... until it's too late? I even doubt that...

PS3s on ebay are going for less then they in shops so i think it's a non issue. There are plenty of PS3s on the shelves in every store.

I have a friend that works for Sony Centre, who says the TV's they gave away were an older model, which they had overproduced. So getting rid of a few unwanted TV's and they get free publicity! So i doubt it quite cost them the £250000 that was reported...

It was the 46" W series, not the very latest model, but its still in the shops, and its still 1080p - I wouldnt have minded one!!!

Nor me, but I was just pointing out that Sony haven't been as generous as they would like everyone to think they are...

Hmmm, just read how this is a cut-back version with PS2 chips ripped out... :( No thanks... Ill just buy a LCD HDTV for my 360 for the same price! :(
#32
Yes, the chip is not in there, but it does run alot of PS1 & PS2 games via software emulation.

I said I wouldn't buy a PS3, but I did and am very happy with it... Just wish I had got myself one of those pesky TVs

Some chap had enough spare time to go through the top 50 or so PS2 games on GameRankings and worked out which ones were emulated properly on a PAL PS3. It's not that pretty:

1. Resident Evil 4 - Noticeable Issues

Not that it's any worse than Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, but I'd expect better, especially since we're paying more than the Japanese and USA customers, who get 100% backwards compatibility.

If you buy it you own it therefore you are completely within your rights to sell it, if people want to pay over the odds that's their problem. Every single retailer makes a profit on their stock and no1 moans about them marking up the price.

Ebay will continue to sell as much as they can because they make a hell of a lot of money from it!!!
#36
I like the 'it also plays games' ad!! There is an element of truth with that, if you exclude the fact that you can play games on it, you're still getting a blu-ray player (and apparently a very good one) for less than most standalone players. Its similar to when PS2 came out, even if you didn't see it as a console it was still a half decent DVD player for a good price (at the time).

As for backwards compatibility, I thought all PS3's ran PS2 under emulation? So saying that Jap and US consoles are 100% backwards compatible isn't accurate? And Sony have promised (yeah I know) to release firmware updates to increase the compatibility rate.
#37
Japanese and US consoles are something like 97% backwards compatible, as they include the PS2's CPU ("EE") & graphics ("GS") chips. The EU version has these chips removed, as will JP and US PS3s produced in the near future.

More info is available here:

I agree with this. In their defence, high street shops do have overheads to fulfill. But there is no excuse for their 'overheads + 30% margin' pricing regime.
99% of the time, items that are available on the high street at £xx can be purchased off the internet for £xx minus >35%.
Even allowing for overheads, most HS retailers are 20% too expensive. I don't think they should close, but they should start to be a little more competitive against the 'world market' online. After all, there are a lot of people who are unaware that shopping online is so much cheaper. These are the customers that places like Comet, PC World, Argos, Boots, insert your favorite chain store here, are hoping to walk in the door and pay over the odds.
