40GB console only £180

80GB with Killzone 2 £200

ASDA in-store. Seems like good prices if you don't mind having a fat. Some people prefer the look of the old one anyway. have a pic on my camera but no way to get the pic onto PC...

Yeah, I get it. It's difficult to see your own mistakes/typos (plus I'm dyslexic, plus on a tiny laptop).

I wonder if this is going cold JUST because it's not a slim

Like the slim offers anything new except being a bit smaller. Some people just want to play PS3 games for as little as possible.

Too many people can't look past the cosmetics and are too blind to see it...

Sometimes you're left wondering if there's any point posting deals like this  Unless it comes with 5 games you don't want and costs over £250 no one is interested! £180 is the cheapest you can get a new PS3 for as far as I'm aware.
#12
Decent price for a good, upgradable blu-ray player that also has BBC iplayer capability. Voted hot.
#13
Best deal I have seen for a PS3 - Fat or slim seems to be a big discussion point. PS2 backward compatibility etc. I thnk this is a good deal. Far too many people on HUKD vote cold and put down deals that they personally are not interested in when many others may well be!

Thanks for the headsup ... may just get one!

It's a good deal for the old PS3 but others should note that NONE of these models have PS2 backwards compatibility.

Edit: voted hot, though.

I'd have bought a slim already b now if they just had this one feature! Then I could sell my PS2 and not have extra console and cable clutter with having 2 consoles.
#16
good deal, blue ray and who cares about the GB, you can upgrade cheap enough. As for how it looks: so what?
#17
yes i would boughta ps3 too by now as well if it had ps2 backwards playability but it does not so i just dont want one as i got ps2 and 360, shame as i really wanted aps3 but only if it had backwards ps2 playability sony really shot themselves in the foot taking that out, and it not as if its expensive to re add it either :S

if only i could replace my ps2 with a ps3 with ps2 backwards plability, but my ps2 takes the ps3 space and no other space left after sky box and computer and 360 sigh so many sales lost to this thinking i think lol Sony.....

why would anyone pay £180 for a 40gb console that was probably made over a year ago when you can get the 250GB slim for about £20 more?
#19
If you know where I can get a 250gb slim for £200 I'd be grateful if you'd share.

hmv for £284 with 3 new games which would easily fetch £85
#21
Ahh, thanks. Shame that, I'd rather just buy the console for £200.

lol, man i have 60gb ps3 with backwards compatibility and I have played ps2 games on it about twice in 3 years!

PS2 just dont appeal anymore, why play ps2 games when you can play ps3 games?

Surely you are bored with your ps2 games by now, I mean there has not been a good exclusive ps2 game released for years:?

 get your facts straight, LOL the slim is........

1.40% less electric than the original 60GB, not the 40gb, 80GB & 160GB!

2. No option to install your own OS

3.cheaper build quality

4.noisier fan!

the slim is superb but why feel the need to diss the fatty?

The arguments used to be between the Xbox 360 and PS3 fanboys.

Now PS3 owners are turning on themselves. WHEN WILL THE MADNESS END!!!111111!

oh ffs! I wasnt dissing the phat (I have an 80gb myself). I was simply putting someone straight who said the only difference is the physical size :whistling:

and its 37% more efficient than the 80gb actually! :-D

Do try to engage brain before posting

Greater efficiency plus a bigger hard drive isn't anything new.

The old ones also use power and have HDDs. :whistling:

And you're one to spout on about technicalities, saying you can get a slim for £200. That's ridiculous. Having to pay almost £300 (some people can't afford to do that in the first place) then go to the hassle of selling on the games is not quite paying £200 for a slim  You certainly can't guarantee they'll get all their £85 back like you claim.

If all someone wants to do is play PS3 games and watch Blu-rays on a new PS3, there isn't a cheaper way to do it. Fact.

What I can never understand is why someone would want to pay big money for a next gen console like a PS3 on the understanding it could play old technology.

I mean come on, you may have your fave games from the past, but games have moved on so far now since PS2, literally no point moving to a next gen if all your bothered about is still playing PS2 games on it.

Why have so many people attacked this deal and the Fat PS3. The slim looks budget made, which is a known fact it is. They made these slims to stem production costs on the original machines.

If people are so bothered about energy usage, turn the PS3 off rather than standby, its that simple.

Lovely Big Phat One - The One For Me - Except I've Already Got A Big Phat One

voted cold because sainsburys are doing the slim 120gb for £20 more. also the slim is more energy efficient!

This might be a good time to get a backup ps3 just cause. Don't really like the new slim one.

I hope that was sarcasm because that Matt Plastic on top of the slim makes it look like my old cassette player.

ok, i admit the old one looks better beside the new shiney/glossy hdtvs..but that is its only downfall.

Exclusivity isn't all its cracked up to be :)
A lot of very, very good stuff was released on the PS2 - it will be a good couple of years before I get through the stuff I have (which propably cost less than two full price PS3 games put together). HD gaming seems a lot less compelling on an SD telly :)
#39
I've got a 40gb PS3 but am still kicking myself for not plunging in earlier and getting the 60gb one.
SD slot, extra usb ports (a usb powered external disk I use to play movies on sometimes takes up the two) and then the magical backwards compatibility.
I've got about 30 PS2 games, some of them haven't appeared on PS3 in a later improved format - such as SSX Tricky - that I absolutely loved playing, and would love to get out every now and again now. And there are some I just fancy playing every now and again for old times sake.
Then there are things like the dance-mat that were "get it out at Christmas" games, but now involve far too much hassle getting the ps2 out of the attic, cabling it up blah de blah.

So I don't understand people who categorically don't understand why people would possibly want to play PS2 games. You don't just play games because it's the latest and has the best graphics - and I'd happily have paid £20 or £30 more for PS2 compatibility on my PS3.

Hot as you can also put Linux on to the old Fat models lets you play emulators.
