Doesn't mention box-damaged or anything but could be a good price for people who want a non-bundled PS3

Good price if you just want the base hardware
#2
My local Tesco (Peterborough) was doing these last night for £199.99 because the boxes where slightly damaged. :)
#3
Im sure its been posted before but heat added.
#4
I'd rather pay that bit more and get one of the amazon deals.

Not everyone wants a PS3 for games though. Makes a very very good HD media streamer and is the only HD media streamer with built in Blu-Ray

If you want one for this purpose the base hardware (whatever HDD size) at the cheapest price is the aim.

I love my PS3...sad but true. Purchased the 40gb version just before last xmas for £252. I did have to upgrade the HDD as 40gb was too small but I do have movies & music on mine.

I think one of the best deals at the moment is the Argos 60gb 3 game bundle for, I think £287. Plus you may even get a £10 voucher. The 3 games are very good and would get just under £20 each on Fleabay.

This will be a good buy at £150 for non gamers, but there are much cheaper, more portable and easier to use HD streamers than a PS3
(and play MKVs to boot)

Err yeah and I use my mobile phone to only play games
At the end of the day you purchase one of these devices to play games, yes they do more but that is their primary function.

Suppose its the cheapest for the base hardware, but its better value to get a bundle. Argos one is probably the best, but I wen't for the amazon one because it didn't have one of the games in stock. I basically had to get fallout 3 instead of resistance 2 on amazon, which is not that bad a swap. I'm sure resistance 2 can be picked up for around £20 somewhere anyway.

is this backwards compatible?

Choice for me was a popcorn hour at £200 delivered or a PS3 at £240. With the PS3 having Blu-ray as well i went for the PS3 and have never regretted it.

MKV's playback fine streamed through PS3 Java media server.

Guessing it doesn't play MKV straight off the console then?

No not yet unfortunately; there is hope that with the release of DivX7.0 which will move from AVI to the MKV container Sony will add MKV support to maintain the PS3's DivX compatible certification.

In the meantime if you don't want to transcode and stream MKV you can convert in seconds with MKV2VOB for local console playback

Or Use GotSent, very good, it just converts an mkv to a .mp4 file, it has two ps3 setting.

I use it for my xbox 360

Muxing MKV to M2TS (sonys HD file) has never been easier or quicker with tsmuxer, it literally only takes a minute (girl).

Good deal but shopto are offering PS3 80GB for £258. It comes with the superior Dualshock 3 pad and has 80GB instead of 40GB so may well be worth the extra £30 in the long run, especially since a DS3 pad costs around £35 on its own.

Hot, hot, hot!

Get this and upgrade the Harddrive, for about £50 you can get 320gb! Great if you want to put on it a lot of games, films, music, record with play tv, another operating system etc etc..........if not, then don't.

Just don't pay the extra for an 80gb and then upgrade!, as thats silly! ;)

well then unless you know something I don't they'd better buy something completely different to this ..i.e a 60gb ps3 as the 80 gb model won't play 'em whatever size drive you put in it.:whistling:

Well that would be silly also! however, I have heard that putting a 60gb drive allows you to play ps2 games, two USBs and a multimedia card slot also appear! :whistling:
