why is PS3 still so much more than Xbox 360? Isn't it due a price drop?
Good deal though, for the current price
#2
why not buy gift vouchers £100 x 3 , then you will have an extra £30 in vouchers:thumbsup:

Nice idea, but the voucher offer isn't valid for Gift Voucher purchases unfortunately:)

Because Microsoft are having to discount their models to make them more attractive before "LittleBigPlanet" is released for the PS3 & Sony clean-up the market with everybody else who is still undecided what to do this Christmas.

The price of the console is relatively low compared to the ongoing costs of software titles & online subscription rates, anyway. As well as monthly online account charges, and discounting hard drive capacity & the ability to play Blu-ray movies, the Xbox consoles also require the purchase of a wireless adapter to make them comparable with the Sony console(s).

By the middle to end of next year Microsoft will be talking about the next model of their console, so I expect that they are trying to get another festive season's worth of sales before this happens.

Dropping the price in times of low disposable income is a good strategy... but Sony are of the mindset that their console is worth the asking price as, save for the costs of game titles, no further costs are required thereafter.

PS. An 80Gb PS3 console & "Far Cry 2" is £309.99 at Game.co.uk.

With Quid at 1.5% this is a discount of £4.65.

In comparison, Play.com are offering an 80Gb PS3 with "LittleBigPlanet" (effectively 'free') for £299.99.

Quidco at Play.com is just 1%.

Not a bad deal, but I got my PS3 brand new last year for £250 (play.com were offering 10% for a day). Admittedly I only got a 40gb version and I've since upgraded that plus brought a dual shock controller.

However I've had a year of first class gaming.

I reckon its because the ps3 works. I had 3 xbox 360 in 1 month and they all had the RRD. I wouldnt even pay the £130 asking price infact i wouldnt have one if they gave it away

I dont think its that they have forgotton about recession, its just a different business model - Microsoft are all about the add-ons ie their own special double price hard drive, and play and charge kit (come on just give me a USB port!) Wifi adaptor etc, so they make the money back that way. I also dont think Little Big Planet will change much, its fun, but the 360 has so many games available, one game wont make any difference IMHO.

Of course the PS3 has a quiet Bluray drive as well, but the back catalogue of games for 360 is fantastic. I sold my 360 recently, but will pick another one up when they bring out a slim model, I just couldnt stand the noise from mine, sounded like Henry the Hoover, certainly couldnt watch DVDs on it without running a cable from another room. Not sure why they didnt design something quieter like the PS3, guess it was rushed.

Sony will run red-rings around Microsoft next year.... mind you they said that about this year! :)

Seriously though, just look how much you have spent on the initial outlay of a console versus the ongoing costs of accessories and, most importantly, software.

Even if Microsoft gave their console away, they'd still claw back costs with games prices.

Sony the same.

Nintendo, on the other hand, would make money even charging £0.01 for their machines! ;)

As soon as Microsoft drops a handheld Xbox console in the market, or the next release of the Xbox 360, they will be playing 'catch-up' with Sony.

Just pick a console based on the current software title releases... don't pick a machine where there is nothing you wish to play.

Also, don't pick a console on the promise of a title being released in the future.

There are no guarantees that it will be released at all or will be exclusive to one console or another.

Probably more to do with the fact Sony have not made a profit off the PS3 yet, but the PS3 is still selling well, so why drop the price?

The 360 is cheaper simply due to no Blu-Ray drive. Blu-Ray is getting cheaper, but Sony still count it as one the biggest cost implications in the PS3.

You'll be waiting until 2010 at the earliest for firm news on the next Xbox, MS made the 360 to pre-empt the PS3, they'll do it again, but unlike the rushed 360 launch it will take longer to appear.

Microsoft lost money on every original Xbox they made, whilst with the 360 they made a profit on each console from day one. (minus $1bn for the RROD fiasco :whistling:) The 360 came out so MS could stop production on the original Xbox as much as it was to pre-empt the competition.

Having all three consoles I still prefer the 360 (despite being on my fourth one), but I totally agree with the lack of wireless on the 360, MS need to drop the price on the wireless adapter pronto.

Having got to play LBP in HMV the other day I never really got into it. It'll be great for the people who like to spend more time tinkering with things than actually playing (lol, install times) but I doubt it'll keep my interest. Kudos to the game getting a 10 in EDGE magazine though :w00t:

Cough cough splutter. yeah thats a release to wipe the floor with Gears 2 this xmas......

It wouldnt matter if it was proclaimed the greatest title ever, i still wont be buying it cos i dont think its my sorta thing. The latest Pro evo might be the greatest game ever but i wont be buying that either cos its not my thing. Now i realise thats just me, but there will be plenty more people out there from a similar demographic. For a game to 'clean up' its got to have universal appeal, and lets be honest LBP doesn't.

I really dont understand fanboys, esp PS3 fanboys. I spose i could be described as a nintendo fanboy because i think they are the best company for games and games consoles taking into account their history. But thats not to say that they are not without their major floors over time and im not saying the Wii is the best console either but nintendo are someone that can nail universal appeal.

I have had my PS3 for about 6 months now maybe a bit more and i have turned it on maybe 8 times. I dont buy blu-rays as they are too expensive ATM and you cant use em anywhere as its no where near as established as dvd. It came with ratchet and clank which is apparently one of the best games available i played it for half and hr and havent touched it since. i bought resistance as apparently it was awesome. OMG its so painfully average that it just wasnt worth the time. i sold it later. The only title i have played on the ps3 more than once is assassins creed and u can get that on the 360. I bought Genji the other day and thats also dull as hell.

There is no serious justification to even consider buying a ps3 now blu-ray players have come right down. They also play dvds much better than the PS3. The 360 dashboard kicks 7 shades outta the ps3 menu system. so you have to pay for xbox live, i admit this is a bummer but its soooooooo much better than the ps3 online functionality. xbox live arcade is awesome - its chocked full of decent titles themes and add-ons all cleverly organised.

Is it a hot deal? I'm not convinced. And I'm pretty sure that there isnt gonna be a massive rush for PS3 where they sell-out everywhere this xmas just cos of LBP or any other title coming before the new year.

You are so full of ****!! I actually have both consoles unlike you, you bs alot. I got the PS3 first then the the 360 later due to some obvious advantages when it comes to exclusives on that console and games that are multiplatform. I play them on the 360 cough cough.

As far as your dis of the PS3, it has a superior XMB and media centre then the 360. It can Play Blu Rays and DVDs!! Whether you play them or not does not justify others will not enjoy them.

£299 is a good price for this console but I would advise everyone to wait till Christmas or just after as then you will see some good Packages on Offer.

actually i have all 3 and both (psp / ds) handhelds. I wasn't dissing it i was saying that i find the xbox dashboard vastly inferior. this is both an aesthetic and usability issue. I know it plays blu-rays i believe i covered that, i said it wasnt important to me that much right now. But to cover those that it is important to i said that a stand alone player has come way down in price and i also pointed out what a poor dvd player the ps3 is in comparison to a stand alone player. I wouldn't use a 360 or a ps3 for watching standard dvds they are both poor in comparison to a dedicated quality source.

See this is what i think when i think of a fanboy - someone getting all foamy at the mouth at the mere sign of rebuke of there said machine of preference. Which wouldn't esp as the reliability issues expensive add-ons etc are justified. BUT thats what they are - addons, if i had to id plug the ps3 into the router it's sat 2.5' from over spending £50 for essentially a usb key...

The PS3 console & game title outlay above is initially greater than the Microsoft bundle, but “LittleBigPlanet” will appeal to a much wider audience for a longer duration. The long-term cost of ownership will be much lower.

“Gears of War 2″ may well be an improvement on the original title in the series, but it will appeal to a restricted demographic, and more game titles will be required to keep the same range of people amused.

The initial purchase price of the console hardware is relatively insignificant to the overall cost of the software catalogue to support it over the entire ownership period.

Put up the PS3 + “Resistance 2″ vs. the Xbox 360 + “Gears of War 2″ to make it a real fanboy fight

I'm sure a 'fanboy' (or girl) of one specific console doesn't understand the attraction to the other console, and vice versa. If the Xbox 360 had any titles I wished to play then I would buy one. OK, that's not strictly true; I would play "Ninja Gaiden II" on the Xbox 360, but that's all... and just one title doesn't warrant me purchasing the console.

RiKx

Agreed... "Genji: Days of the Blade" is a very poor title. I also grew very tired of "Assassin's Creed" very quickly (regardless of the platform).

I was actually very disappointed with the game content overall, probably because it had been so overly-hyped that I was expecting much more from the game-play, an engaging story line, and technology advancement far in excess of what had already been demonstrated on the console to date.

I really do not understand why our hero can fall several stories onto concrete, but as soon as he gets his feet wet in two inches of water he dies. In "Assassin's Creed 2", Altaïr can, apparently, swim, but presently I wouldn't buy another chapter in the story, without at least having access to a playable demo version in advance. Uploading multiple videos during development to various sites did wonders for promoting the first title, but the next time around the gaming audience will be wise to this. More effort will have to be put into the creative aspects of the game.

If the next instalment (of the planned three-episode franchise) does not do something drastic then Altair will remain dead-in-the-water for me.

RiKx

Apart from "Burnout Paradise" [PS3], three PlayStation Network titles I have purchased ("Pain", "PixelJunk Monsters", and "Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (Online)") have, with the exception of the beta test titles I have had the good fortune to be involved with, taken a majority of my gaming time this year.

BFN,

fp.

if you wanna play the latest games & the most exclusives, you get the XBOX 360 - if you want an all round games console with the ability to playback BD, then you get the PS3.... simple as that.

plus you cant compare XBOX Live to PSN - PSN is nowhere near the quality of XBL.

or you could just take the highground & get both

If you do a google search for "160gb playstation 3" there are tons of news stories saying the release of a 160gb model will be 31st Oct, but I was just wondering whether anyone knew for sure?
