just shows how much of a troll you are in these ps3 threads, and how little u actually know about the ps3. this is a discontinued item, has been for along long time. the price reflects this, its not a price drop.this is just very old stock. in about 6months time when the find older phat xboxs, lying at the back of a warehouse, they will be selling them for about £30

No need for that. I agree with queenieburns. This is the first reasonably and acceptably priced PS3 deal I have seen as well. I agree that PS3s should cost more than Xboxes but not by the massive premium that they have been.

Incidentally is this the old one that also plays PS2 games?

Agree'd queenieburns comment was well outta order and a load of bollex too! Im sure its only the 60gig, (maybe the 40 too???) that was backwards compatable.

Best PS3 deal in a while, the sainsbury's deals before christmas on the slims were good too though.
This is a great price for a console and blu ray player, although my ps3 rarely gets used for games it works as a great media centre and definitely worth having at this price.

The early models of the PS3 in the UK could play ps2 games.

Why do people do that? Go on an internet forum and say stuff that they think as something that's fact?
i know people get things wrong all the time, but why be so definite when you could look daft as a result.
It's all on wikipedia:

Except for the 60gb model, good effort though X)

Great price if you can get one.

I also prefer the look of the early phat ones. The newer slim ones just seem cheaply made in comparison.

I find the slim better built than the 3 60GB's I've had. The plastic on them felt cheap and flexible, and they were awfully creaky too.

The Slim PS3 are cheap looking with no shine to it!! The Phat PS3S are better but the 60GB version's overheat more then any other versions I've known!! I got a 60GB version and it gets very hot but I've had no problems with it :)

Everyone I know who has or had a 360 has always broke down!! Now games are getting longer and bigger the 360 cant take all the hours!!! 360 are wack!!

There certainly have been alot of issues with 360s but its not like the ps3 is infallible. My mates ps3 got the yellow light of death and the blu ray drive on mine has completely died. My original 20gb 360s disc drive confuses games with dvds sometimes but it still works and my elite has had no problems. They're probably about the same on reliability these days.

I mostly use my ps3 for the blu ray player and my 360 for gaming. There just aren't as many exclusives that interest me on the ps3 as the 360 and when it comes to multiplatform I much prefer the 360 pad and online functionality with party chat.

What are they adding into PSN for paying customers? I havent really heard anything about it
#22
i got both and the PS3 60gb (yes a uk 60gb one does play ps2 games) i find the PS3 a lot quieter when using it as a dvd player

PlayStation Plus is nothing more than a glorified rental service. For people who've owned the console since launch like myself it offers absolutely nothing as basically everything they offer I already own, plus once your sub finishes you cannot access the games you get with PS+ (bar LBP which was an intro offer).

hot deal was looking to get myself one of these come payday 2nd hand but might be tempted in getting a brand new one if possible!

also what is the point in all this bickering about ps3 is better than a xbox 360? no one gives a sh*t about which is better! i had both but i PREFER my 360 but this doesnt mean its a better console.

I know its the 6 weeks holidays and you have nothing better to do than give the big one on forums about ps3, xbox etc but save that cr*p for the school yards please

So they still havent added any kind of chat functionality outside of games? I thought they were supposed to be working on adding that ages ago...

There's automatic updating of games (I think it's for the last 5 you've played) and firmware updates, but bar that, there's no extra functionality.

Depends which way your tastes go, personally I prefer the look of the Slim being understated, bling and shine to me look cheap.

60GB Phat Ps3's can play ps2 games and all ps3's can playback ps1 games.

Mine's from the UK and plays PS2 games. All 60GB models did. They removed it when they introduced the 40GB ones.

Yep, I think some people get confused because no UK model had hardware for PS2 Emulation unlike early JP/US consoles, but most certainly the old 60GB UK Models has PS2 Software Emulation.

Basically by the time the PS3 hit the EU market, Sony were already cost cutting.

The EU 60GB's weren't solely software emulating, they still had the GS chip from the PS2 in them, only the EE was emulated.

Actully Piano black is the latest black colour design for all gadgets ;)
The material they used on the new slim PS3 looks cheap and doe and when you trie to clean it, it eats the clothe away with it looooool

This is the first reasonably and acceptably priced PS3 deal I have seen as well. I agree that PS3s should cost more than Xboxes but not by the massive premium that they have been.

Considering the brand new Xbox slim brings it to parity with the PS3 (big harddrive, wireless net, quiet fans) and has RRP of £200, and PS3 has similar specs plus a blueray player for £50 more RRP, I'd say the PS3 is fairly priced against the Xbox. I don't see how £50 for a top of the line blueplayer is a massive premium, it seems like a very good price. Unless you are of the opinion that the new Xbox is a rip off.

Piano black mixed with silver trim and that nasty "Spiderman font" logo just don't do it for me at all, you don't have to constantly clean the slim, it's not a fingerprint magnet ;-)

I think that Sony have made a mistake not incorporating Wireless-n in the Slim, currently that is a trump card for Microsoft now having wireless-n built in. The PS3 Blu Ray player I find adequate, but it can nowhere be considered "top of the line"!
