The deal has already been posted with the 5% voucher but it's dropped down the list and a 10% voucher for Curry's has now come available, which makes this one of the best prices around. There's also 3.5% quidco which takes off another £10 as well. The voucher is code PPU458.

Overall includes: 40GB PS3, one controller, MGS4.

I think this is a great deal.

Anyone know the cheapest place to pick up a 60GB PS3? This deal is hot but am looking to purchase the 60GB version.
#3
60Gb has been OOP for a looong time. the only ones you're likely to find now are returned/second hand ones.
#4
The 10% discount comes up as a staff discount - you may find they won't honour it if they check.
#5
The big E3 Electronics show takes place on July 14th, could be worth seeing if Sony announce a new price/bundle or larger Hard drive console at the show.:)

Good price for the time being though.
#6
Hope so!
#7
What's the best deal for MGS4 on it's own right now?
#8
There's much cheaper ways to watch a bad movie you know.
#9
I got MGS4 from Game yesterday for £30 including quidco. I bought it about this time yesterday and it arrived this morning!! You should find the deal by searching metal gear on this site.

Just do a "collect from store" and pick it up before they can check :whistling:
#14

Rep from me too! :D These sites are good and this deal is hot, has anyone succesfully used that staff discount code? I'm worried that I'll buy it and end up getting a refund :(
#20

Really? Damn! The 60 GB PS3 consists of more features than the 40 GB one (such as a card reader, backward-compatability with PS2 games, etc) and as such I was hoping to buy that particular version.
#22
I've placed an order for it, and it got accepted with the discount in place. Already received the e-mail notification, although I'm sure they can always take it back...

aye Really ! i wanted one of them to at first now im looking to buy, didnt realise what sony had done when i first started looking, then got angry and thought the only way i was gona get one was to pay more for a 2nd hand one off ebay, but then i thought these prices are just silly, is it really worth it

ps3 can play most ps2 games i believe, its jsut ps1 thats total unsupported

cardreader - dont think id ever need one, but you can pick up a multuple cardreader for under £6 off ebay which will plug into the ps3 [ http://*********.co.uk/92-in-1-USB-2-0-Memory-Card-Reader-Writer-Mini-Micro-SD_W0QQitemZ250262976992QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250262976992& ] available in several colours

dont know if i'd miss the xtra 20gb all that much, but ive only got one old ps1 game myself and so in the end decided on a NEW 40gb for less and shelve the old scrabble game

just waiting for the best price/game deal to come up here on HUKD, or you might also like to keep an eye on here - http://ps3.uk.net/

I can still easily resist and I eagerly await Sony's response to this revelation.
I'm almost certain it relies entirely on a good price drop or the eventual release of GT.

Really thought I'd have a PS3 by this point...

Is that right? Even the 40GB version? I thought it was only the 60GB that had any sort of backwards compatibility. A nice surprise if that's true.
#26
no - the 40GB has no backwards compatability. to my knowledge no-one has cracked the software emulation to run on the 40Gb machines, but it's possible it may have happened, you'll be hard pressed to find it though.

the extra 20Gb aren't really that big a deal - you can pick up 2.5" HDD cheap enough, so you can whack in a 320Gb if you feel like it. Like the above poster said, the memory card reader is a minor inconvenience too. it is also missing 2 USB ports though, so you will likely very quickly run out of ports.

E3 is next month, and it's very likely that Sony will announce new PS3 packages for Europe - hopefully with Dual Shock controllers. Europe is the only region where Sony hold the largest market share (in japan they are behind nintendo, in america they are behind both nintendo and x-box) and yet they treat us like muck. it's depressing.

That's so true...you'd think Sony would offer it's European customers some kind of incentive, such as a drop in price of the console itself, cheaper games or better package deals. It's quite unfair when u think abt it really!

yep, seems i was wrong in my OP, sorry about that, its such a damn minefield
i've since read up more fully on it at the bible of all places ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3 )
only last comment i would make is regards to this post, is it appears the PS1 support is only for downloaded games ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3#PlayStation_Portable_connectivity )

Cracked? What's there to crack?

The 60GB has the GPU from the PS2 whereas the 40GB has no PS2 hardware at all. The PS2 software emulation for the 40GB PS2 doesn't exist, on any model ever sold.. but Sony might be working on it.

Only US and Japan versions have the emotion chip, the PAL 60GB emulates ps2 games.

The 60GB PS3 emulates the PS2 EE chip (CPU) but it has the PS2 GPU (graphics), the 40GB has NEITHER.

That's why there is no PS2 B/C, Sony didn't flick a switch and turn off B/C.. pure PS2 software emulation doesn't exist right now for the PS3.

How come I can pop any PS1 game disc into both my 60Gb anf 40GB PS3s and they run fine?
#38
SO what happens if they find out you are using a staff discount ?........Would you get in trouble or what ?........good deal but potentially dodgy....fraud etc..........that price is tempting though

Just received an email from Currys confirming dispatch of my PS3 + MGS4 order - good times!
