PS3 available at midnight in Asda £419.99

Just phoned ASDA near me (Pheonix - Paisley). They said they have plenty of PS3's and to come down at midnight to pick one up. They have taken preorders but have excess. Thought this might be useful to anyone with a 24 hour ASDA near them.

Thanks for the pointer :) Probably a good idea to phone before you travel though, as you did!

It seems they are just gonna be available off the shelf most places. Not suprising releasing at this strange time of year along with the Crazy price tag. Only really worth buying at full price if you want a Bluray player (in which case they are a bit of bargain)
#3
I'm not interested not at that silly price...:x
#4
Forget the silly price - I'm not interested because half my PS2 games won't work on it. Besides I've bought my son a Wii for his birthday on Saturday! Can't wait to play with it :D
#5
The price will plummet when the initial demand drops off. No way is it buyable (as a console alone) at that price.
I'll pay no more than £279 for it, as I have no need or want for a blu-ray player.

Mr Maguire said the TV giveaway in the UK was a reward for gamers' patience.

Well why isn't everyone who buys a ps3 getting a 46" hd flat panel then...Its just a gimmick...:x

Sales figures from the United States, where the console launched last November, suggest that PS3 is being outsold by rivals. Recent figures from sales trackers NPD show that the Nintendo Wii is outselling the PS3 by more than two to one.

I'm not surprised The Nintendo Wii is in a price bracket that many can afford..

"It lacks a must-buy, stand-out game. Six months down the line we will see Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo and more PlayStation bankers."

That can't be good for Sony when the likes of microsoft have the fantastic Gears of War and Halo 3

The PS3 is being abandoned by its "exclusive" titles all the time.
The best game ever on the PS2 was "Devil May Cry" and that is going to be released on the 360.

If you want to play PS2 games on it, you need to import a console from abroad pretty much.
Yea people will say "just use your PS2" but the less clutter the better, as well as having a ridiculous amount of things plugged into your TV nowadays.
Also i have an LCD tv on the wall, and sitting on the other side of the room, with the cable already stretching to the console from the TV, plugging in controllers is murder (and not good for you sitting that close to a big ass tv)

£425 price tag at this time of the year is hella stupid.
Its after xmas, so people are just saving up again, which they then have to plough their cash into their summer holidays.

Most people that got a Wii for xmas wont go near a PS3 as well.

If I got a huge HD TV with one I'd buy one too.

But since that was a promo gimmick, I'm not bothering for the time being. I have a high-end PC I built with mine own 2 hands last October and a Wii - I don't need one of these or the XBox360.

Unless you have bought the "bargain bucket" games for a fiver that no one has heard of then your PS2 games will work.

Got my PS3 at midnight and tried about 10 of my old games so far, only briefly obviously, not a problem with any of them.

So you got your PS3 2 hours 7 minutes before your post - well done on being first in the queue, you then hot footed it home set it up then rather than get stuck into the new games you no doubt bought for it you thought, "i know i'll leave that and instead i'll just try and play a load of my old games instead...." and then go and post on a message board.....

Seems loads of places have stock of the PS3

Sony have confirmed that the European PS3 is not fully backwards compatible with PS2 games as the have removed the emotion chip from the European model for some reason

well i wont be buying this one, my first Playstation lasted 6 months before the laser starting playing up, changed it under warranty and that lasted 4 months, moved upto a PS2 and low and behold the lasers got a mind of it's own.

They say trouble comes in three's so best avoiding i think, and at well over £400 i can't see what the hype is all about.

Getting mine today from Woolies after wook w00t

I think the ps3 launch will go down like a lead balloon, cheaper parts than the american and japanese versions plus the pricetag is a joke.

Another thread bashing the PS3. Have some respect to the poster and keep it on topic. This is about the PS3 being available is some Asda stores and for LESS than the retail price. To me a "Hot Deal" which this site is all about.

Come on everyone, its only a games console - how come so many feel so passionate about slagging it off, if you dont like it, dont buy it, dont click on this thread taking it off topic.

I seem to remember one person on here paying £300 for a dual core processor not long ago. Id see that as a rip off, but its up to him! Cheer up and enjoy your xboxes and stop feeling so insecure - they're both great fun, no need to take sides! :santa:

I have both Japanese & American friends. Would there be any problem with importing one of these to the UK, compatability, regional discs etc. I know the US power would be different. Given the choice which would be the best country to buy from. I understand they are a third less in both these countries.

Have a read of these forums for the pros and cons of importing. Youll get a better deal £300 plus delivery I think, but there are issues with the warranty, and of course youd probably have to get US Blurays although theyre cheaper anyway. Also online gaming is an issue.

Old PS2 games are region encoded too, so you wouldnt be able to play PAL games on it.

That is not true, just look at the official list produced by Sony themselves and there are loads of well known games with problems to varying degrees. :x

HOW much is it?

I understand the RRP to be £425.00 for the UK.
#26
for LESS than the retail price.

Yes, but the RRP is just a number made up by Sony to rip off us mugs in the UK - it has no real meaning.
By the way there are loads of these available - almost EVERY Argos has these in stock for collection tomorrow!

$ony cant really win - if they did what M$ did and supply 50k for launch, theyd sell out - but if they supply more than is necessary ie 220,000k people attack them for not selling out within the first day. lol
#28
The lack of interest might point that the PS3 is going to sell very slowly.
Half dead pre-order queue's and plenty in stock most everywhere.
A worse version than other regions for more money, just isnts fair.
Seems like we could be seeing a backlash against Sony.

And the only way they might catch up with M$ and Ninty is to slash prices.
