#4

#5
Do you think stores like Gamestation will reduce the price of 40gigs when the new 80 gig is released?
#6
cool, i am envious with a meagre 60gig drive!
#7
What's the difference with this one compared to the 40gb version? apart from an extra 40gb.

Isn't the 80gb one backward compatible with PS2 games too (well 80% of them)

No it has none of the older backward compatible options that the older model had i.e from a site -

The PlayStation 3 80GB model does NOT feature:

* Backwards Compatibility with PS2 Games
* Memory Stick Card Readers
* SACD Playback
* Ethernet Cable
* 4 USB Ports, (The PS3 80GB model features 2)

Taken from the game website:

PlayStation 3 is the industry's most advanced next-generation home console hardware, realised through the combination of Cell and RSX processors.

With the Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed 80GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) as standard in PS3, PlayStation 3 gamers will be able to download a variety of contents as well as access on-line games and services over the Playstation Network.

Equipped with basic input/output ports, PlayStation 3 supports a broad range of displays from conventional NTSC/PAL standard TVs to the latest full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays, offering PS3 owners the joy of the most advanced computer home entertainment content. For use in living rooms, maximum heat and noise reduction has been achieved with a noise level equivalent to that of the current slim-line PlayStation 2.

With the overwhelming computational power of the Cell processor, PlayStation 3 is capable of playing back content from Blu-ray (BD) disc at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps with ease, the maximum bit rate defined in BD standards.

Comes with the new DualShock 3 Controller! The PlayStation 3 80GB model does NOT feature:

Backwards Compatibility with PS2 Games
Memory Stick Card Readers
SACD Playback
Ethernet Cable
4 USB Ports, (The PS3 80GB model features 2)

Just noticed the 'Not'

I thought it dosnt work with hardware? :thinking:
#16
they wont reduce the price of the 40gb because stock has been deliberately run low for all retailers you will be lucky to find A 40GB by release day - they have timed it quite well
#17
That's a lot of money to pay for a console with ****** online play.
Blue ray is nice but it's just a fad and wont last long.
I'd rather invest in a 360 at the price they are going at the mo.

Or an old skool Atari console even!!! :w00t:

Yeah, but the pre-owned 40 gigs are bound to drop in price because of this... right?

pre owned yes i would imagine
#22
just wait for the 40gb ones to drop in price and pick up a cheap 320gb drive and change it yourself like i did.

You'll then have a 320gb ps3 for around the same price or even cheaper
#23
i would get it at zavvi using my virgin credit card, so takes price down to £270:thumbsup:
#24
Would the cpu fan inside the 80gb be the same as previous models? I have a 40gb, and while it is quiter than the 4 60gb's I've had, it is still not quiet enough to replace a DVD player outright.

I thought of that but not available on site yet, and by the time you add the tesco points, quidco and use a cash back credit card not much in it

yeah there isnt much init tbh. but paying £270 there and then at store is lot easier for me, ordering online using virgin card is a bitch atm as you have to send your invoice reference, then they will refund you:roll:

You know you can upgrade this hdd to a 320GB SATA HDD for £60 which you should not need to upgrade again.

I brought my 40gb PS3 last december from Play for something like £252, then brought the HDD as mentioned by zabbyh for £60 as 40gb is simply not enough even if you don't load movies/music on the unit.

So quite pleased that the Sony hardware is still keeping its price.

Hot deal by the way and the dual shock 3 is pretty good.

Blu Ray is now the established new standard, and should therefore be around for several years to come.

I love the PS3 but they do have 1 major design flaw...Rear USB ports? anyone heard of an easy mod for this or a model that has this? I have the camera and ordered the PlayTV PVR thing so having rear USB is a must for hiding those wires
#35
i cant believe people are still paying £290 for a ps3 when there arnt any decent games

The ps3 is a blu ray player with the option of palying sub par games

not being a fanboy - just honest

ps3 @ £200 and i will buy it but no more than that but i suppose at least now the controllers come with rumble
#36
Mmm
i can get it for £242 with my 10% staff discount + 7% quidco !!
Haha:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Your full of it.

PS3 has plenty of good games.

Soooo glad i didn't wait for prices to drop to get my PS3, would have ended up with the 40gb cr*p or even this!

Good price but that list of non-features is the decider. Not voting cold though because it is a good price

I ordered it yesterday afternoon, and Quidco has still not tracked it :x
