I HATE delivery charges
#4
Me too but between the percentage discounts on the various cashback sites and if you use a cashback credit card then delivery works out at a minimum. But hey, come Christmas time I'm sure these will be much less!

I had a PS3 and sold it after 6 months...and have never looked back!

IMHO it's a glorified Blue Ray Player and is streets behind the now well established Xbox 360. Sony have sat back and Microsoft have stolen a march and pinched their crown.

I would struggle to count the number of decent games on one hand and don't get me started on the absolutely appalling online play. Online play is the future of console gaming and this is the PS3's weakest area...it's abysmal!

The only positive thing I gained from owning a PS3 is that it reminded me HOW GOOD the Xbox 360 is...as I think I was starting to take it for granted!
#6
I should point out that I'm a die hard xbox360 gamer but its a low price for a new PS3 so I thought why not post it, some people like sony for they quality build products, unlike microsoft which needs no further elaborating. Still I bought another 360...Doh!

Also, When I evaluated the PS3 package my mate had, it didnt have a big lug of a power brick, just a normal plug cable from the console, a quality blue ray player, solid build game and media console. However my preference is for the 360 until the PS3 gets further developed and more established then I'll have another look.
#7
isnt the 40GB one not as good as the 60GB one or something - like no backwards compatibility or larger CPU fabrication or something?
#8
I fully 100% agree with you mate...

My 360 was sent back twice but Microsoft replaced it FOC twice. Originally there were some serious issues but I think they've about sorted it now. With partr of the money I got from my PS3 I went and purchased a Xbox 360 Elite. Mainly for the HDMI connection, 120GB hard drive and the new more reliable build quality and it matched my new HD LCD TV! I paid about £199.99 for it from shop-to.com a while ago and sold my Xbox 360 Premium Edition for about £130 on ebay. £70 well spent considering I got a brand new console, a further 3 year guarantee, HDMI connection and a 100GB bigger hard drive! Plus I couldn't find a white/cream HD LCD! Ha! Ha!

Good responce!

it wont play old PS games but then again...why would you?

and it doesnt have a memory card reader which is hardly a problem has it has 2x USB ports...

ill informed nonsense from an xbox fanboy!

online play is as good as xbox (and without the subscription)

The harddrive is also easily upgradeable to 500gb using laptop parts available from all good stockists (not overpriced bespoke harddrives sold by microsoft)

The comment about software is also innaccurate and is clearly seeking to bait people over the xbox v ps3 debate

Had 360s since launch just recently got a PS3, the menus are much nicer and more fluid, the bluray is great, built in wireless, rechargable pads out of the box, great media centre thingy, but sadly, no good (exclusive) games and no real Xbox Live alternative.

Metal gear is ok if you like the occasionaly bit of gameplay, preferred Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to be honest, Drakes fortune is admittedly really good and another ten similar quality games might alter my view.

At the end of the day though, Xbox 360 wins for me hands down everytime, ultimately I want a games console and the 360 is the best one, Sony will never beat Xbox Live now, the PS3 has nothing exclusive in the future that warrants buying it over the Xbox 360, where as 360 has Gears Of War, Fable 2 etc.

Blah blah blah this is still a very good price for the PS3 though, bearing in mind all the stuff it comes with out of the box and the free network play, if it had the DualShock of the 80gb itd be a steal (you really do need rumble)

By the way, wouldnt hold your hopes up too much about the hardware being sorted, I bough an elite last november which recently gave me one ring of death , so no extended warranty ! YaHOOOO !

I'm not up on these consoles but I may go for the PS3 just for the fact that GT5 will only be available on it
#15
I love my PS3, it's so much more than just a gaming consol :p
#16
When it is backward compatible again then i would consider one (and price below £200 where it should be), as the rip off merchants at Sony decided to stop the 60 GB due to it's backward compatibility. Why bother with PS2 compatibility I see one or two ask?
**Obvious**
Many people still have many good PS2 games that are nice to also be able to play on the one unit instead of keeping the PS2 also rigged up.
So Sony just to get every last ounce of sales out of the PS2 decide to stop the backward compatible PS3. Well you can keep it then Sony.

All posts about the Xbox 360 or PS3 degenerate into fanboy farce. Leave it out. It's the value of the deal people are talking about. If you don't like whichever console and want to have a rant & rave go to eurogamer.

I'm sure they let more than 1 person know about the deal mate lol so its not surprising to find another one the same. Take a Chill pill...lol
#23
Lol, the PS3's been out a year less than the 360! Home and LittleBigPlanet still to come out this year, with games like Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and Tekken 6 all still to come, and if you look at the previews for these games it sounds as though they're going to be much better than their predecessors. Games like MGS4, Uncharted and GT5 (Prologue) have also been great so far, but like with the PS2, good games are going to come out all through the console's life!
#24
everytime a ps3/xbox deal is posted it turns into a comparison on every post - who cares we all know what they can do
#25
True, I only posted it as I thought it was good price. Obviously for those who are looking for a PS3. If you're not looking for a PS3 then there would be no need to read the offer. lol.

It's almost as annoying as when someone moans about people writing an opinion and comparing the product to its nearest competitor. How DARE people express an opinion in a forum ! much better if we all just typed 'voted hot', what a sense of community would prosper then eh !

Oh, and you might be a genius who knows every facet of each console, although it might be a little presumptious think to we all know what they can do.

Good day.

Even those who know every facet of each console will have thier differing opinions on them. they are not identical products which makes it difficult to compare. one has been established in the market the other is/is trying to make inroads int the market (i'll pre empt loads of figures coming out on sales in various countries).

Basically the only way to look at this is is this a good price for a PS3, and i think it is (but will still wait for the sub £200 price)

wouldnt be suprised tbh they will lose out badly to the xbox 360 at christmas now the arcades £129.99

tbh theres no comparison between the 360 and the ps3 - the 360 has more and better games as its 3 years old whereas the ps3 isnt even a year old in this country

As sony admit the games now out arent that good but they will be in a few years

You can argue all you want but the fact remains - xbox live cannot be touched and neither can quality of games on the 360

The only thing ps3 has over the 360 is being a media hub with blu ray

I think this a very good deal if you're like me, and I'm sure there are people with a very similar view to mine. I am a gamer from a long time ago (1981), a modder from quite a long time ago and someone who appreciates value in technology now.. I know that rumour has it that the PS3 may drop in price for Xmas. Personally, I am considering this as I want a decent Blu-Ray player, I want to play maybe 5 games tops, which are mainly driving and sports games, and I certainly don't want to play online as I can't stand playing online (got bored years ago beating most people at Virtual Pool online on the PC). I'm more into home cinema now, so I see this as a Blu-Ray player first, with the added bonus of a developing games console with great potential, and I agree with a previous mention that great games appear throughout the life of a console (Gran Turismo 1 is still an absolute great game for it's age on the PS1!). The Xbox 360 looks very nice, especially for the recent price drops, but it doesn't fit my needs, so it's not what's the best, it's what's the best for me.

Can i just say that you are missing out a hellaofalot by not playing an xbox 360 online
its may cost like £25 a year but its worth £100 a year

i could pick up a blu ray player for £130 but im not gunna as i need ot futureproofed with updates constantly

Fair point. Thanks for your comments. Just on the Blu-Ray, from what I have researched, the PS3 is better than a bottom of the range BR player with potential firmware updates, so that's why I'm not just swayed by the cheapest Blu-Ray players, I think it's a good all rounder - again with potential.

Home will be out soon and only then will we see whether charging £25 a year is justifiable, because with in game XMB, trophies and Home all free I think Sony are offering just as much as Microsoft.

lo here we go the which one is best war ....lol they are both good at what they do and you buy the one YOU want, leave it at that children.

I've got a ps3 , xbox , xbox 360 and a wii.

A also have a very nice PVR that spits out media via upnp from its ethernet port.

PS3s are great cause they pick up upnp - so I can play my freeview recordings from it without ANY software setup. Im thinking of getting another one shortly just for the other rooms tv.

please give an example of how it is much less stable?

ok, so Live is better. that's pretty much a fact. We have no idea how good Home will be til sony actually release it, but til then, we have to say that for online functionality, X-Box clearly wins. It is by far and away the best online console. And, as has been stated many many times, online is the future of console gaming, which is clearly why the X-Box is the best selling console in the world...oh wait, no, the Wii is, which also has quite limited online play. perhaps Online isn't the future.

Good deal if this is what you are looking for. Voted hot

I'm going to wait til November though, cos I expect the prices will come down for the Christmas push.

On another topic, I've heard that Blu-ray players are likely to be coming down in price around then too by around 20% as the makers try to get more of the players into households
#40
As soon as the cheap players start to arrive from Chin then Blu ray prices will drop and the uptake will increase.
We are still waiting (as far as i am aware) for the equivalent of the Warfdate 750 and the Samsung 709, those were the players that arrived in the supermarkets and really got things going.
