If you wanted to sell the games, it just then turns the PS3 into a very expensive Blu ray/media streaming centre....

Seems they have just hicked the price up a bit by dropping a title after crimbo. Bum deal for people interested in one.

The best deal at the moment is PS3 + three games @ play.com with the 5% discount works out to be £275.50 delivered.

Wish I could afford one.

(The three games are MotorStorm: Pacific Rift + Fallout 3 AND either Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe: Collector's Edition or Saints Row 2 or BioShock)

I have checked the majority of South London Sainsburys and no one seem to have this deal instore. Is this deal in a few stores or most stores?
#11
Its basically the same deal argos were selling before xmas, £5 more an you got all 3 games.

Not warm, but not cold either.

HMV does a better deal, just bought mine today i got the 80gb+ 3 game package deal with fifa 09 and had he choice to choose two other titles lbd and ressistance 2 was also given a free bd movie.

I initially wanted to get the bundle with a blueray movie + 2 games and remote but they didn't have the remote in stock. so i chose the 3 game package but fortunately at the time they didn't have a standalone ps3 without the movie so he gave me the movie pack free of charge and i was i able to choose two games under £40 through reasoning in the end i got ps3 80 gb blur ray legendary movie, LBD, COD world at war and PES2009 for just £299. This was from the HMV in london walthamstow so it all depends on how well you haggle GOODLUCK :)
#13
I like the blockbuster deal at the moment here (half way down on the right) I'm very tempted as you can trade stuff in to help knock the price down ;)
#14
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! although deal is lukewarm for me

You could sell little big planet for £20? Not when you can buy it for the same all over the place. I seriously have no idea why this overpriced console interests people when the competition do it better for less money.
#16
Voted cold the two sainsburys I went to £299.97 no mention of any free games.

This deal expired on Dec 24. Sainsbury's still have the point of sale stuff out though. I managed to get one a couple of days ago.... but it doesn't go through the till. Fortunately the woman on the til put it in manually. I had my friend with me who works for Sainsbury's, so I got it for £232.

Rationally explain why the PS3's a good choice then. No emotional attachment, no personal preference, just cold hard facts. On a forum obsessed with good deals and ripoffs, I CAN'T be the only one thinking it.

Well, I've had an xbox 360 since launch, but I bought this deal. Reasons why I bought mine

- I want to play the exclusives
- It's more affordable. When I bought the Xbox 360, I then had to buy battery packs, quick charge kit, wireless adapter, and xbox live membership - all which are provided by the PS3 out of the box.
- It's got blu-ray. I've got a LCD television.

I don't believe you. Post a picture of your 360, your PS3 and your television displaying this thread and I'll debate this with you.

I know a few people with a ps3 and an xbox. i don't know why it's so unbelievable?!

anyway, i prefer the controller of the xbox but the ps3 is a better built machine. if it was the ps3 with the xbox controller, that's what would be the perfect combination for me. I'm on my third xbox. first one i got in dec 2005 - red ring of death, that got replaced, and then i got the falcon chipset one with HDMI so safe from the rrod now.

neway, excellent deal. i havent got my ps3 out yet, ive got 5,000 words of masters assignments to do, then once i've done that, i'll open it up :)

Item number 220337537487 on ebay - sold today for £22.98 including delivery - you would get around £20 after fees and postage.

I don't do any gaming (except fun games on the wii) so the XBOX doesn't interest me - the PS3 does though as it is a Blu Ray player and media streamer - a decent BluRay is £150 and my media server is pretty old.

I also like Buzz the quiz game - which I don't think is available on any other console.

Do you need a picture of me before you believe me?

The dude's got a very valid point!!! Its personal preference, but the PS3 is loaded with other things beyond just basic gaming!!!

It's not at all unbelievable. Someone who owns a 360 and PS3 and suggesting that the PS3 is better value for money is though.

If we must factor in what could be unnecesary and unwanted purchases and you're getting your figures from official pricelists then surely the addition of an official headset and HD Video cable are necessary (omit the cable if it's not just composite that it ships with as I've been led to believe).

Comparing Xbox Live and PSN doesn't really work, Xbox Live is SO much better than PSN if not by any other definable feature than the numbers of people playing games and using voice comms. That's of course irrelevant if you don't want to play online. As is the cost of the 360 network adaptor.

As for the quick charge that's unnecessary, a tenner is all a play and charge costs.

Which still means that there's a difference of about £100. Which is enough to buy a Blu Ray player, one that's arguably better than the PS3, the days of it being one of the better ones on the market are looooooong gone. This is a significant point, people didn't expect Blu Ray players to drop in price this much and it's really destroyed the PS3's Unique Selling Point. I couldn't possibly fail to see the logic of someone wanting a PS3 if they wanted a games machine and a blu ray player and the PS3 was reasonably priced in comparisson to these two devices, even if it did a worse job of both functions.

I can't argue for a second that the PS3 isn't a better built machine, Microsoft's record is appalling, hopefully they've got it right with the latest hardware. On the plus side they've given extended guarantees and the turn around is apparently pretty quick. It should never have been necessary though.

After you've got through all this stuff and onto the juicy stuff of what to actually play on the machine, does the PS3 have anything but MGS4 and LBP that the 360 can't match with something equivalent that's higher rated. That doesn't even take into account the larger library, more exclusives AND that multi format software is demonstrably better on 360. And you play it with a better pad (but that last point's opinion so you may strike it from the record if you wish)

I think people considering a PS3 as their primary games machine are crazy and that hyperbole and rhetoric are the main factors in making that decision. Sorry for speaking up.

Oneeyedvic:
I, OF COURSE, have no issue with you saying "I've got no interest in playing games" and "I bought a PS3" you've a cast iron defence there. I think in your position I'd have spent £150 on a NMT like Popcorn Hour in order to play back more file formats and paid about the same on a Blu Ray Player for a slightly more elegant experience but that's your choice and I don't think it's the worst decision in the world.

As for the LBP at £23 on Ebay, I'm surprised since I'd imagine that most people would prefer to pay less money at an online shop than more at Ebay but I guess some people will always want to pay over the odds for games even when they're available elsewhere for less.

I think I've made my point and I think it's a fair one, for the record, I owned all three consoles last gen and have a 360 and Wii this gen, I had been waiting since the price drop for something to convince me to get a PS3 and the more I looked the less reason I found. By all means, enjoy your games and movies but I thought on this forum we were interested in saving money, not wasting it.

Bowdeni: Good luck with the assignments, I should get back to mine, 4000 words to do in the next week or so for me. :(

*yawn*

That implies the 360 isn't similarly able when it is, I believe it plays back more file formats that the PS3 as well.

Just be fair.
#30
I thought of a better way to put it!

The 360 and the PS3 are SO similar, they're both very, very able machines and there's little between them but the PS3 costs £100 more and has less games. It does have a Blu Ray Player though, but you can get one with a proper remote for £100 anyway. And a stand alone player will use much less electricity so that's cheaper in the long run too.

Does that sound more acceptable?
#31
no not acceptable
#32
No replies, guys?

Tatwamasi i think you're just a loser and need to shut up. you need to go out and get laid or something

Haha that's funny. I think people lost any confidence they had left that you knew what you were talking about when you said

Which still means that there's a difference of about £100. Which is enough to buy a Blu Ray player, one that's arguably better than the PS3, the days of it being one of the better ones on the market are looooooong gone.

Just don't talk about technology in the future. You are only misinforming people.
#35
Why? Which point are you disputing? The quality of the ps3 blu ray playback being far from market leading or that blu ray players can be bought for £100. If I'm so wrong explain the fallacy in my points. Saying "you're wrong" without being able to say why's a bit ridiculous when the points of debate are so uncomplicated, no? And you, a Master's student? If this is at all demonstrative of your powers of debate and reasoning then you should be ashamed of yourself, as should your lecturers, your university and perhaps indeed the whole education system in this country for allowing people who lack sufficient intellect to progress to ever higher levels of study in order to generate funds.
#36
I can't believe it has got to this. If you were a MA student, then you'd know the workload is massive, and you can't study both scope and depth, and in many cases you have to be selective about your workload. Arguing with a 14 year old kid who has a lack of knowledge isn't something I have time for. If you honestly think that a £100 BR player is better than a PS3 2.0 playback capabilities, then fine. Just don't advise people.

Keep it on topic please guys, this is a deal thread, not a general discussion :)
