Don't usually go for third party stuff but I wanted a cheap gold plated HDMI cable and found this dock came with it...the dock is awesome it has 2 beams of light that glow loads of different colours when it's on but if thats annoying you you can lock it on a colour you like which I think is pretty kool!

I was off to Zavvi tomorrow to see if I could pick up the £3.99 hdmi cable........but for an extra 3 quid I'd happily go for this instead!

Thats exactly what I was going to do! They have a similar product (cable and dock) for £9.99 I think in a white box but thats a different manufacturer I believe.. The one I got came in a clear plastic case with red packaging inside... barcode 5031300027188 and was £6.99 for sure (not missprice or anything). Hope this helps.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the dock exactly, a fancy stand?

Gold plated cables are no better than un-plated cables for HDMI :) It's a digital signal, not analog.

Relevant link as 'proof' for those who don't have electronics quals. :

That article doesn't mention 'gold-plated cables' and the explanation is very simplistic.
It's only the connector that's gold plated and that is done so the signal can cross the interface without too much degradation.
And regardless of what you pay, usually, more expensive cables are made with better materials and are of a higher finish.

PRECISELY! (It also has decent rubber feet so does not damage the surface you put it on at all!)

RE: The gold plated thing. I have no knowledge about the differences...digital...so I presume it's like buying a gold plated USB cable then ... i.e there will be no benefit over a standard one... I guess you would be right... I just prefer them for the simple fact that gold is a decent conductor and it also indicates if the company manufacturing them bothers to dip the ends in the stuff then they've probably manufactured the whole cable to a good standard, I've only really had problems with poor quality scart cables literally breaking (the ends) in fact the standard scart that comes with the PS3 is broken but working (the metal surround separates itself from the plastic casing every time it is removed from the TV) Not a big deal but it's sharp and annoying and could damage the whole scart input in the long run.
