From the Playstation Blog:

And I know many of you are asking on an update on the featured downloads. This episode weve got a Kane & Lynch theme for you all, and the next four episodes will each come with a free minis title.

So that's with Episodes 7 8 9 and 10, starting next Wednesday (19th May). 4 minis for £4 in total (sorry - £3.96), not bad. Will be waiting to see which ones they are before downloading....

Firstplay itself is a pile of tosh btw - ie not worth paying for but interesting enough if you consider it as free, and the £1 as being for the mini. A couple of HD videos, some screenshots and maybe a preview or two.

Echoes is the free game for Ep 07
http://acegamez.com/122009/reviews/echoes-psp-review-mini.html

Blast off is the free game for Ep 08

Age of Zombies comes with Firstplay 09 - 2nd June (Ep 09)

Rocket Racing comes with Firstplay 10 - 9th June (Ep 10)

...and a voice-over by Lucy Porter.

That has to be worth something... no? ;)

It hasn't been entirely confirmed that these will all be different minis - have a look at http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/05/11/firstplay-episode-6/

Quoted from DJ-Katy of [url]www.thesixthaxis.com[/url] :
“and the next four episodes will each come with a free minis title.” – EU Blog

So, four titles or the same one if you pick up any of the four episodes? I smell chenanigans.

PS. "FirstPlay" episodes are available to UK PlayStation Network users via the European PlayStation Store up to six weeks after their first publication date.

The second "FirstPlay" episode (3 weeks ago) also had a give-away of a PSP/PS3 "minis" title too:

"D-Cube Planet" (see previous deal listing "Free ps3/psp mini with this week's edition of first play!")

Really can't see it being the first way you describe (although I like the way you are thinking), whether the minis are any good or not is a different matter entirely. I got the other episode with D Cube planet and was pretty impressed for a £1. The only other mini I own is Rocket Racers which perhaps wasn't really worth the £4 I paid, but would be brilliant for £1 in my opinion (although for selfish reasons I hope this isn't one of the minis)

The minis do start this week, just like I say in the blog post :) First one is Echoes, a different one every week for the next month.

Click the "Latest" link at the top of (the) PlayStation Store "Game" menu.

The icon for "FirstPlay" is currently the fourth shown on the top row...

[Latest PSP(tm) Content] ... [Special Offers] ... [VidZone(tm) (Application] ... [FirstPlay]

Navigate to & then select the [FirstPlay] icon & "FirstPlay Episode 008 (Full Game)" is shown as the first icon on the top row.

The current "FirstPlay" episode is one of the advertisements displayed in a cyclical manner on the home screen of (the) PlayStation Store too,

When you searched did you put a space between "First" & "Play" (e.g. "First Play") or type in a concatenated string ("FirstPlay") without a break between the two words?

I have just searched for "FirstPlay" & the results read as follows...

"FirstPlay" 1/1477

FirstPlay Episode 003
FirstPlay Episode 007
FirstPlay 90 Day Subscription
FirstPlay Episode 006
FirstPlay Episode 008
FirstPlay Episode 005
FirstPlay Episode 004
FirstPlay Episode 002
FirstPlay Episode 001
...

The next two Minis have now also been revealed -

Age of Zombies
comes with Firstplay 09 - 2nd June

Rocket Racing comes with Firstplay 10 - 9th June

Both titles have a retail value of about £4, and both have received decent reviews

Age of Zombies scored 8/10 @ Destructoid

Rocket Racing scored 7/10 @ The Sixth Axis

I bought this week's edition (08), with Blast Off, and have to say that I quite enjoyed it - the show, not the game, which I haven't played yet. I don't think I would be paying to access Firstplay if there was no free game attached, but I will definately be picking up the next two episodes (issues?) to get hold of the Minis.

I prefer the digital (free) fortnightly presentations by Christina Lee ("Pulse presented by PlayStation Network") on the US PlayStation Store to what I have seen of "FirstPlay" so far.

I have only ever seen two episodes of the US (only) monthly subscription-based ("Video On Demand") PlayStation "Qore" product (hosted by Veronica Belmont ), but it had a much better presentation that I have seen with "FirstPlay".

I do not think the "FirstPlay" digital magazine offers any more to somebody who does not read the "Official PlayStation Magazine (UK)" &/or other publications such as various web blogs & online news sources (like I know you do "fc"), but it is the promotional giveaways (such as the set of "minis" this thread mentions) that differentiate it from "Pulse" (but not from "Qore").

Granted, because "FirstPlay" is a digital weekly publication rather than a monthly (paper-based) one, then it can be more relevant week on week, but the video content is often taken from official promotional trailers from many months ago that you may already have seen.

I did ask Nathan Ditum, journalist for Official PlayStation Magazine & Total Film (both issued by Future Publishing), & Associate Editor for "FirstPlay", a few weeks ago (via the Official EU PlayStation Blog) if there were any plans to issue "FirstPlay" on the individual cover-mounted Blu-ray Discs supplied with the monthly PlayStation magazine, & he said that it had been considered, but nothing was planned at that time.

I would prefer to have everything on a Disc rather than download only.

Blast off is the best mini I have played to date (from an admittedly small sample) and is pretty good - if simplistic - fun. The high scores are very challenging though and its very addictive

I already own Rocket racers and again its well worth the 99p price of the magazine. I paid £4 for it, nevermind - iI'm quids in by the fact that "Age of Zombies" will be a free (well 99p) as I nearly bought that at the same time as Rocket Racers

Thanks everyone for the updates

ps Anyone enjoy echoes (last weeks game)? It looked good but I got bored of it really quickly

I would prefer to have everything on a Disc rather than download only.

Streaming would be a good option - I have to download 1250mb before I get access to the 20mb mini :whistling:

But yeah if future publishing have done a deal to get these 4 (and D Cube planet) minis I don't see why they wouldn't put them on a disc at some point

Also my biggest gripe. They've not reviewed Red Dead Redemption or ModNation Racers yet :whistling: They also have a prime opportunity / gap in the market to do big features on online gameplay ie "here's 30 minutes of exclusive beta online gameplay from red dead" - instead we got a 10 second video clip in with the main preview

Blimey! Maybe I should do the lottery? :p

No way to buy these (and get the free Mini for my PSP) without a PS3? Can't see it in the Media Go store?

just buy a PS3, you wont regret it! :)

got age of zombies this morning with episode 9. its pretty fun! just trying it on my PS3 where its not great quality but i'll be playing on my PSP mainly.

have to say that this is one game that DOES need the 2nd analogue stick control!

Glad its Age of Zombies this week cos I also wanted the modnation and red dead reviews, and had got it in my head that it would be rocket racer this week, which I already own. I can skip next weeks magazine now :)

I was playing Age of Zombies and Blast Off yesterday, and have to say they are both well worth the price of admission. I haven't tried playing them on the PS3 yet, but they both look and play great on the PSP

Haven't noticed this thread before.
Regarding downloading on a PSP, not exactly sure. I use the store from my PSP and have downloaded "Abe's Odyssey" and it worked alright. I think you could probably get the minis using a PSP but not FirstPlay.

As others have suggested, go buy a PS3, you know it makes sense

Oh and here is a nice review site ... http://www.playstationfuture.com/2010/06/06/firstplay-episode-009-the-weekend-after/
