HD compatible for when its available through freeview
#6
as someone mentioned above, it's been this price for at least a month or 2.. and out of stock for the past 2 weeks at any stores within 100 miles of where I live. Hot price, but what's the point if they don't have any in stock??

This.

Would have voted hot if I could find stock anywhere, but all the postcodes I've tried so far are showing out of stock.

Lukewarm from me.

I seriously doubt it will work with UK HD freeview, as it uses the new DVB-T2 standard which is still in testing. I would imagine it would work in the rest of Europe for HD digital TV but no help to us in the UK.

I'd imagine it's failed. It should never have been the price it was at launch. £39.99 was it's money all day long.

Spot on. I have it though and if you don't have Sky I'd highly recommend it

You what? :?

I have PlayTV and it is fantastic - it also has the best EPG of any device that I have seen

I agree with dan completely - this is an awesome piece of kit. I use the on screen scheduler to set recordings upto a week in advance, and have replaced my PS3 HDD with a 500GB one to cope with all the stuff I record. It upscales to high def, which until there is a high def signal is the best we can ask for. It also lets you export stuff to the PS3 XMB, which which you can copy it to USB sticks or whatever should you want to.

There are things I'd like to see in a future software update, such as cropping the start/end of recordings, but overall it's a great little piece of kit.
#29
I agree with Dan and Skip. I got it on the day of launch and think it's great!! They have updated it regularly too so it's got better since launch.. Series link would be a welcome addition - not sure why they haven't bothered
#30
Can anybody tell me if I will pick up anything with this as the tv I have with built in freeview picks up only the 4 main channels on analogue, do you think this may pick up a few more channels than my tv has or do I have to wait till digital switch-over in 2012 ??

Manythanks in advance

PS ... Voted very hot by the way ;)
#31
im using my old sky box as a freeview box.

this will be a great replacement if i can find stock.

can anyone link the best hdd i can upgrade my ps3 with.

thanks
#32
Depends what size you want. I've got this one in my PS3 now (had a WD 250GB before this one but now using that as a spare).

500GB
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Scorpio-Internal-OEM/dp/B001JSSDGU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1250120495&sr=8-1

320GB also available for £43 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Scorpio-Internal-OEM/dp/B0011U65F2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1250121190&sr=8-1
Also 250GB, 120GB etc available

Pretty much same price everywhere but I'd go with Amazon, just for the customer service in case it doesn't work properly.
#33
Good price. I got it for £37 anyways, however this is as useless as product as I always thought it would be.

Looking for someone to gameshare battlefield 1943 with me. Please PM me if you're a kindered kindhearted and enlightened soul - or just PM if you'll gameshare battlefield 1943 and the warhawk map packs.
#34
thanks hippo99

im currently using the original 60gb version.

any ideas how much it can store?

im basically a series fan, so simpsons, lost, prison break kinda guy

so roughly how many episodes?
#35
Best freeview on the market, very quick and handy, i got one of these on launch and a 320GB hdd.

Use it every day, Can play games whilst recording, record a channel and watch another, very quick and sleep interface, fast EPG loading, and continued support!

If only Ofcom went with DVBT instead of DVBT2 or whatever then it would have been an amazing investment.

But still is and was at like £70 or whatever i paid for it.

so HOT!
#36
500GB gives you roughly 413GB free space after formatting (PS3 reserves a percentage of the HDD for stuff so is unusable).

Your main channels BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Ch4 & Five- programmes use about 1.5-2GB per hour.
All the other freeview channels use about 1GB per hour.

Even at the highest quality of 2GB (only really noticed this higher bitrate on BBC1's 'Natures great events') you can save over 200 episodes. If needs be, you can also transfer off the PS3 onto an external HDD/PC.
#37
clearance bargains - cant find it

link me someone
#38
Bought this and its great, the only downside (which isnt to do with this product really), is that I cant use my Harmony remote with it without forking out another £50 for an adapter for the PS3 :x
#39
"PS3 Go Play" ?

WTF?

It's called PlayTV.
#40
I got one of these from argos about a month ago and they were difficult to find ni stock then! It's generally good, but somehow not as convenient as a seperate HD recorder with it's own dedicated remote control.

The big selling factor for me was that you can export the recordings and move them to a portable device. Unfortunately this has not worked as well as I'd hoped the expoerted format is unrecognised by any portable device I have so the only solution is to reencode it which kind of defeats the object.

I'd generally recommend it, I just wish sony would use a recognised codec then it would be fantastic!
