PS3 Play TV - £25.00 @ Gamestation

GameStation in Grimsby had Play TV (pre-owned I think) in a glass cabinet advertised for £35 which was fairly cheap. When scanned at the til I was told they were marking it down today (24th March) to £25. Bargain

I assume this deal will also be in GameStation's other branches

Well worth £35 or £25, I paid £31.50 for it preowned and didn't even get the USB cable with mine lol

You really need a decent size HDD to use with it though, I upgraded my 80GB to 320GB and put the old HDD in an enclosure. Depending on the channel, 1hr of TV can take up 1-2GB of space. The good thing is you can "export to XMB" copying the TV files to PS3 main menu, then you can move to a USB and use on a PC or Mac and convert for ipod etc.

It's not pre-owned, it is in fact new. Most of the pre-owned ones on eBay are going for aroung the £35 mark...

never tried a humax then?

does this allow recording of 2 channels at once? To me, this is a vital feature.

is there ever anything worth watching on two channels at the same time. I think the last time it happened to me was wanting to watch Sooty on CITV and TMNT(actually TMHT) on CBBC.

loads of times I find I am recording 2 channels at once. I really wouldnt be happy with playTV if it could only record 1 channel at a time and I certainly wouldnt suggest its the best out there cos it clearly isnt.

Record 1, watch another. On the current update at least, although the PlayTV team have been pretty adamant about only recording one channel.

that is all it will ever do if it only has a single tuner

Well it is a twin tuner, but only one of them can be recorded from.

Ooo. I've been on the lookout for this going cheap for a while. I'm going to pop in on my way home.
Thanks!

Hot price, but hard to find... Gamestation I asked recently said they hadnt had any new units since Christmas and just had 1 preowned at £35 at the time.

Assuming Sony don't disable it with the next firmware update that is.

Last sony product I ever buy because of that ridiculous decision to disable linux on the PS3.

Occasionally but the thing that annoys me most about sony's decision is that I bought the PS3 instead of an X-Box 360 entirely on the basis of the PS3 being more open and embracing the idea that people could use the PS3 for more than just the native games. I have not been impressed with the range of games on the PS3 to be honest, the excellent EyeToy games or Dance mat type games never seemed to have migrated from the PS2, it seems that 80% of games are sports games or a first person shooters. So I feel the PS3 has largely failed to impress, and removing features makes the console even less useful than it was. I think if I were to be choosing a new console now the X-Box 360 would be the one I would choose, or maybe even a wii.
