Seems a bit pointless to me and a slippery slope to paying for everything online Xbox style!

Normal PSN is still free and I would guess it's enough for most people. As for the paid for Plus service, not only does it not seem worth it, it's yet another example of Sony copying others. Gone are the days when Sony were the innovators.

Can't see anyone thinking it's a good deal in this thread?

I assume it's £39.99 for a years subscription? Probs around £15 for a 3 month then.

Too early to judge the value on this one - in the first month the 'free' PSN game is Wipeout HD, so right there is a decent free game. My problem is I already own the thing... can see that issue popping up alot. You will also be able to download the full LittleBigPlanet for free if you get this before August 3rd, although that game is also something I own and dirt cheap nowadays lol.

I think this service will develope into something more then worth £39.99 and has the ability to save us alot of money, but I don't think it'll be worth bothering with at launch. Voted hot though, as there'll be well over £40 of PSN games avaliable alone, without including all the minis, pS1 games, beta stuff etc.

I don't see what's so bad about it. 360 owners have paid for LESS since day one, yet we get an option for what is essentially PSN with nobs on, and Sony get shot down in flames for daring to OFFER us something. Yes OFFER, it is not forced upon you. I spend nigh on £40 a year on PSN titles, and I barely buy anything, and when I do only when titles are on special.

I think this seems like a fair option for those of us that want a little bit extra from PSN.
Price is not exactly gonna set the world on fire. But if they sell Playstation Plus as cards, you might see the price come down a bit in some places

I fail to see how this is comparable. PSN is still FREE to play online games and download demos, which I'm sure costs money on LIVE does it not? :whistling:

This is an optional service. Note the word optional. LIVE is pretty much a mandatory purchase if you want anything like a decent service. We'll have to see how this pans out.
#10
its not a "free" game, you can only use it whilst you are a subscriber

when that ends, no more games

We still get what 360 owners pay for, for FREE!

This is an EXTRA option, and seems to far exceed what Xbox Live subscribers are currently getting for their money anyways.

Whos STILL the sucker now then?:p

Personal preferance mate. Also, you'll NEVER have to pay to play PS3 games online. Sony have repeated this MANY times, so why people keep saying they have to or will eventually is beyond me.

My Brother owns both and his experience is the complete opposite to yours. Add to this, that there is WAYYY more ranting kids on Xbox Live, and I can see why he plays PS3 online more than his 360.

Nothing worse than the whining American kids, does my head in.

Although whenever im online these days im in private chat luckily.
#17
Sony have basically said, look we can let people play for free thats fine!
BUT.....
Game demos, voice chat across the platform, all the quality things that make people come back to live year after year.
We need to start charging for it, and make a profit in the process.
Oh look the "paid" for xbox live model DOES work!

Yeah, that's something Sony are dragging their heels with unfortunately. Cross game chat needs to be implimented. We've got Microsoft to thank for that though, with patent infringement and all kinds of stupid crap. Sony will get around it though. How can you calim rights to communicating online while playing a game!? :?

Err, NO!?

All those things are FREE on the PS3, and will continue to be. Even the cross game chat WILL be free when implimented. Sony have also stated this. Why do people not GET this!?

What your getting here is way and above what your getting with Xbox live.
suspended#20
Haha didn't know they had patented it, madness.

It is a nice feature to have though.

Maybe one day sony and xbox will join forces and create a super console.

All the quality things, you name 2 and 1 of which can be done on a silver account!!

Wasnt the M$ excuse that it costs alot to run online gaming etc, hence to play online you need an XBL Gold account, i.e pay to play online. Yet to play online it is free on PSN and will continue to be.

This is £40 a year for an assortment of content from the PSN store and the ability for it to be downloaded in the background. Good deal as I spend about that per year.

Also I like the 'try it for an hour feature'.

Taken from the site:
# Full Game Trial: try before you buy with a one-hour trial of selected PlayStation Network titles and Blu-ray Disc releases.
# Automatic Download: receive the latest PS3 system software updates, all your game updates and even game demos without lifting a finger.

Also to clarify when you end your subscription:
Access to some content, excluding discounted content, terminates at the end of the subscription period.

the operative word being 'some' not all.

Would be nice, but I'd rather see Sony and Sega come up with that box of tricks!

EDIT: I'm guessing Xbox360 owners are voting for their OWN rickety console rather than the deal itself. Seems quuite a few don't understand what the deal is exactly anyways! lol

Dunno why they don't just go the whole hog and do a home arcade machine, cabinet and all, with maybe a console only variant.

Just look at how many people spend £100's making their own cabinets and stuff, and the number of people who would if they had the time and money?

If the only content that ends is the one hour demo and not downloaded games then this has got to be hot!

Got to love Microsoft fan boys! Every forum I've been on, you go into Microsoft and nintendo threads and can have a decent conversation about the E3 confrences. Go into a Sony thread and it's just Microsoft fanboys stiring and getting the complete wrong end of the stick with playstation plus. They just can't seem to take it when Sony have somthing good to offer.

I've noticed that also mate! they genuinely don't seem to know the full details of PSN and how tthis new bolt on PSN+ works.

Sometimes you can't really blame them for their complete ignorance.

Totally agree. I have never made a comment about xbox or wii on public forums mainly because I don't have either, but hey do whatever floats your boat I guess.

I may try PSN+, I'm not sure at the moment but at least I have a choice and there is no removal of functionality if I decide not to, I will still be able to use the store, play online etc... I'm sure it will be value for money just as long as you don't already have the games which are being offered.

It goes both ways you know. All the 360 threads over the past few days have had ps3 fanboy rants in them too.

But anyway, gotta love sony with all that free stuff they entice you with which is only free if you keep paying their plus sub.

Oh dear, now I am not a Xbox fanboy but this is one of those arguments where one side blames another, when it comes to 360 vs ps3 debates this thread alone provies it that people talk about how XBLA membership is payable and ps3 online is free.

I have both consoles and the xbox service is FAR superior to PS3 online where you often have to wait a huge amount of time to find a game, sometimes its 2 minutes, sometimes 15 somtimes I have been waiting 30 minutes to connect!

With XBL the only issues I have had is with older arcade games, I can try a oldish store bought game that connects normally first time, gets little disconnections etc.

I have never had to wait any more than a minute to connect to players online, let alone 30. On any console. The only games I have problems connecting to on PSN is FIFA, but apparently that's because I have a BT Home Hub, even with ports forwarded!

As for PlayStation Plus, as Lucy Porter would say rounding up a review on FirstPlay, it's a 10 from us! HOT!

I'm assuming subscription is via Playstation Store, if so you can buy cheap Playstation Network Cards and make this cheaper.
I for one will be signing up!.
#33
For what I have read on the Sony site, it doesn't entice me one bit. If you get it directly from Sony, it's a price comparabe to what Microsoft charge for live. Other than them being both being paid services, there is little similar between the two. If they don't allow subscription by means other than paying the full retail price, it will be an expensive addition that most will avoid. At a minimum of 3 months paid subscription, they'll have to do some free 24/48 hours subs to get people to tyr it out.

The Sony offering is based around games, and little else. Hopefully more will be added.

I have Wii, PS3 and two XBox Pro's (purely bought cause they were £79.97 each and for the Media extender functions).

Looking at all the consoles out at present and not being a fanboy of any I used to rate the PS3 as the most useable and perhaps the best designed.

That was until they removed the option of other OS ( I havn't been online since mid April) and now this.

Personally I agree with the comments that Sony no longer innovate and are merely copying MS to earn a few extra pennies even though they do now make a little profit on each PS3 they sell as opposed to the previous losses.

Sony have made many promises not to remove functionality but still did it. They are also prone to claiming they will add functionality, but clearly they want to shaft us when they do that too.

Lately I have made the decision to upgrade my PC and return to the best gaming device I have ever used, the humble PC. At least there you get most functionality for known price, game are a lot cheaper and no one shafts you regularily to get one up on the competition.

Shame on you Sony! Personally I hope people vote with their feet on this offer and do not commit to using the service. Sony are a gaming pleasure pusher, who are merely offering free candy to entice gullible gamers and their parents to commit to paying for functionality which should be free.

Had Sony stood their ground there was a possibility that XBox Live might have one day been free but certainly not when Sony start this nonsense.

I refuse to pay for XBox live because I think it is scandalous they have managed to scupper so many into paying for XBox Live Gold, shocking when every other company offers online services for nought (at least until now). They even wanted to require this to have access to BBC iplayer which the Wii and PS3 have for free. And also now expect Gold membership in order to download some demos, yeah right that makes a fantastic business model. But then when your used to running a Monopoly that prints money in other parts of your business I guess you can get away with a lot.

Oh well rant over..............

Why would Sony want that?

Not suggesting Sony would want it, more that MS might have done it to maintain a competitive edge. Now Sony have done this, and started charging, it is less likely XBL will ever be free especially when MS marketing dept. never sees a potential opportunity (ie. they could make XBL free and turn the tables)
#38
Where's the DEAL here, its retail price with no extras no cashback, so why is it posted in DEALS?

plus maybe there should be another forum called playground fights for console kids.
#39
Everywhere i turn, theres the fanboy rants.. ive got both consoles, its just about personal prefrence. I like somethings on Xbox and somethings on PS3... me personaly i prefer the PS3 but logic prevails and i can say there are things on Xbox that are better than Ps3. So once again its just personal prefrance.
Some people here would think that Einstein is a genius others would think Bethoven was. Both of them would be right but not in the same field.
So stop arguing and chill.... voted hot :D
