these prices are extortionate, is much cheaper on play.com and will be ALOT cheaper elsewhere. Freemans offering PS3 + 1 game for the same price as Play.com are offering PS3 + 3 games

Price is the same at Play: £550, but you're right about the 3 games.

But you might be able to get the 20% off voucher to work for your freemans order... I think that might be quite a saving.

Although I have heard people on here who used the 20% off your first order voucher to order electronics and were charged full price...

any other cheap ps3 deals available? ive just ordered my hd tv, now for the ps3 lol...

Thanks for clearing that up tolgak. Looks like it would be better to buy from play.com. 8-)

No problem. I think I'm gonna wait for the price to plummet. ;-)

As far as I'm aware, there are no Pre-Orders for PS3's yet. All the Pre-Orders currently being taken are 'get in the queue' style lists, where '1st-come-first-served' people will get priority on a machine once Sony release the details.
For anyone that was around when the PS2 was released, Sony decided which households got a PS2, they actually sent a letter to say if you were getting a machine or not.
Not sure if it will be the exact same deal this time round, but probably similar.
Obviously it's worth getting in on this as soon as possible, but don't forget these Pre-Orders do NOT guarantee you a machine.

the games are £10 cheaper which is what i was referring to
#11
£500+ for this??? Sony can go whistle for their money cos they ain't getting it off me!
#12
500? Do i get a car and sexy driver to take me home after i buy it, possibly accompanied by an armed guard to protect my system made of gold? Nintendo im coming home.
#13
i'm sure plenty of people (excluding me) will be paying 500+ for this, i'll only buy the ps3 when GTA 5 comes out.
#14
Guys and gals, don't forget that this has a Blue Ray HD drive fitted, which a standalone unit will cost more than the PS3.

So work it out, you get the games console part of it for free!!

but sony is losing the standard war, blu-ray is not that cheap to make (evidently). And thus is not being supported by as many manufacturers.
IMO - the information density that is being described for the next generation DVDs and Tvs- is beyond the requirements of most users, except Kommunist :-P
how many of us have actually bothered watching your movies with director and actor commentaries - the only one worth it is This is spinal tap. because the commentary is done in character.

A PS3 for 500 - not sure - the spec of the machine is fairly superb - multicore doodads and extra shiny bells and whistles (i love computers and even my eyes glaze over reading the technical specifications now). playstation are better consoles, but i will not be in the dash to buy it first.

Huh?
I'd probably be the last one to buy PS3 :) After softmodding PS2 I have no respect to Sony whatsoever.
Besides that, it could be that their Blue Ray drive in PS3 won't play HD movies, which makes it unusable for me (I know that slashdot is talking about different drive (recorder) made by Sony but I guess that Sony will share mechanics and (partly) firmware).

But it'll also be on the Xbox360 as well and you can get them nice and cheap. spare change can then also buy you a Wii :-D
#18
If you want a Bluray drive that is, to play all your Bluray movies... what you dont have any? lol

Freemans wont honour the 20% for electronic items, but beware, when i placed an order they said "yes that code has gone through" and then i was charged the full price. Three letters to the Managing Director, none were read, just replies saying "sorry nothing we can do"... BEWARE of FREEMANS "discounts"!

I got the PS1 & PS2 on launch but won't be bothering this time. Didn't like the X-BOX 360 so it's Wii, Wii, Wii all the way home for me (and no doubt for less than £200).

This is my first post. I thank you for pointing out the ps3 is coming to town and I have just ordered one for £399 which seems like a good deal. Might keep it - might not....
#21
LoL.
I know what I'll be doing with my PS3 on release date if I get one.
Here's a clue, begins in e, ends in y ;)

When it comes to a format war im shying away from Sony, though i love the products they make they often choose the wrong battle.

Yeah, good shout. Their new "walkman" hasn't been a roaring success has it? Not sure on the technical spec, and don't need to, but it's not been the iPod destroyer they wanted.

Love the comment about the Wii, the promo trailer for that at Play.com is amazing. I'd love to play Madden on the Wii  Again though, fair chance it will be overlooked like the cube was, and the inferior powered, hyped PS2 won. I fear the PS3 will be the same :(

It's also multiplayer on the XBox360 as they have the rights, whereas the PS3...

Nintendo don't tend to advertise their products in Europe, hence why the Cube died (shops only stocked 5 games in the corner because Nintendo didn't pay shops for prime space)

Just look on tele now though, Channel 4, most programs are sponsored by them, so looks like Nintendo are moving into Europe! :D

Where did you find that deal?? Seems pretty good!
#26
not really a good deal, the ps3 officail release price is 350 for the 20gb version and 425 for the 60gb with wifi and hdmi output, so play are offerin 3 crap games for not much less.

search around it will be £350 or £425 dependent on variant upon release

Don't forget that fifa and pro evo also have an xbox360 deal to be released a year before other formats (think it's a year anyway).

.... probably by around march next year if the xbox 360 is anything to go by. also remember that xbox 360s where making up to £1000 at one point before christmas, ie more than 3x their value

Dunno bout pro evo 7 but this is the announcement
#32
yes heres the link, http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-screenshots/80.html and it apparently is only for 2006, so in jan 2007 you can get them on ps3....
#33
Thanks guys.... wow scott you can even see the sweat on the guys brow...thats some fantastic detail. lookin forward to the release now
#34
Just posted this in the requests forum (for those looking to buy)...........

Renchi.com has them for £316.27. Way cheaper than elsewhere!

Release Date: Nov 17, 2006

I suspect they'll be Japanese imports.

Darkplanets and CreativeConsoles have them for £425.00.

Any Good?

Best deal I have found. It's the 60gb premium hdmi version. PLAY'S price is well over £500 with some games you probably won't want. All depends when they actually get the machines in....
#36
sorry, i should have said, the deals are not even close to being sorted yet, i would imagine in mid october the deals will start, i was just letting you all know what sony officially said about prices being 350 and 425......
#37
I'm sticking to the 360 :)

Interesting reading for those deciding on which next gen console to go with. This guy works for Sony so its definitely bias, but still good to see whats happeneing from an insiders perspective -

i will be getting my ps3 with 10% off so i cant wait :) major selling points for me is it plays all my old ps1 and ps2 games, links up with my psp, blu ray means games arent limited to 9gigs and also i dont have to buy a next gen dvd player because i can play blu ray discs right out of the box. roll on november 17th

So if the only person taking orders at the moment is Play - is it worth ordering one to get in the queue? Will they debit my card £550 immediately or will it just be on hold until it's able to be despatched?
