I saw this deal today in Blockbuster (Manchester). It looks pretty good. There are also some other games to choose from:

Heavy Rain
Uncharted 2
Dirt 2

Cheers!

The Xbox doesn't run linux, neither does the Wii. Not really fair to compare it on a feature which none of them have.

On that note, the PS3 has Blu-Ray. The Xbox has a custom built graphics card, the PS3 has The Core microprocessor. The Wii is a gamecube with a wavey controller.

And my PC blows them out the water :-D
Still quite fancy a PS3 for a handful of exclusives.

I bought mine for FF XIII (I know its not an exclusive) but I'm loving the Blu-ray. That's less than I paid, good deal.

My Phat 40G PS3 has just YLOD on me (thats Yellow LED Of Death).

Sony want £131 for a 40G refurb with a 3 month warranty.

Should I be thinking of just biting the bullet and ordering this instead, as I hear they use much less electricity and it'll have the full 12 month warranty?

lol ps was just kiding all systems are good they only thing that puts me off the ps3 is that it don't seem that eassy to costumize (hack) what about homebrews?... ps it think linux runs on wii? another thing the wii is meant to be less good in terms of graphics than the gamecube? again all this to be confirmed....
#14
It runs I think, but Linux was officially supported until the most recent firmware on the PS3.
The hardware in the Wii is almost identical to that used in the Cube. Again, I think.

I would buy a new one and sell the faulty one on Ebay.

Aye but its err ******! Doesn't power up. Just 3 beeps and constant flashing red LED!

Or were you recommending a "reflow" and sell ASAP? Thats against my principles.

The Wii is graphically more capable than the Cube, but developers have little reason to invest in it's potential. In the previous generation it was worth pushing the Cube to the limits.

I recently decided to play my GC games on my PC, F-Zero GX is absolutely gorgeous in true 1080p played with a 360 controller.
Gradius V on the PS2 also looks incredibly good in HD. There's definitely a lot of untapped potential in older titles which don't rely heavily on textures.

Sell it as spares and repairs. Someone will buy it.

I would assume they were recommending selling it as faulty - even if it's not powering up, a broken PS3 may still be of use to someone for parts.

Unfortunately no stock in Inverness :(

That is exactly what i ment.

You dont need to lie. Describe the item as faulty in the title and explain the fault. From what i can see you could still get about £50 for the faulty item looking at completed listings.

Seems steep, I though Sony were offering a like for like for about £80?!?!

Without starting th whole 360 v PS3 war, is this the best price at the moment?!? Ive got a 360 and a new HD TV so Im seriously thinking of going for a PS3 for BluRay (honest, or at least thats what Im telling the OH!!), just seems quite expensive thats all especially when the 360 has dropped recently?!?

That's great customer service from Sony, I just hope my ps3 dosen't get that, I had my xbox having rrod and they replaced it with a new one, not to mention I have 3 year warranty of rrod. I hope my ps3 dosen't fail, not that it gets much use apart from 1-2 games and blurays!
#26
Although the PS3 is more expensive than the xbox not only does it have a blu-ray player (soon to be 3D compatible) but it also has wireless networking built in, so there's a £40 saving straight away!

So it's a months worth of unlimited game rentals, even hotter than I thought

By the way I wasn't being sarcastic in my first post, it was just a (rather bad) joke...

Yes, I've been hunting around and generally PS3 250GBs are going for £270 with or without a game if you can even find them in stock. Even if you're not bothered about the game it's still a good deal because GoW3 and Heavy Rain are still worth a reasonable amount of money to sell on.

It does depend what you want from the console, I'm mainly wanting one as a blu-ray player as I have an original 60GB model (plus tend to do most of my gaming on the PC/360 at the moment) - while it's a bit pricier than a standalone blu-ray I have more confidence it will be properly supported plus it is handy to have the game and other functions.

Flippin 'eck, thats defo too high for a refurb with 3mth warranty. I might have a look for the 120gb if they are significantly cheaper it might be a better option?!?

Cheers John, my "wants" are pretty much the same as yours, I'd like a BR player but it seems daft to spend £100 or so on a standalone when for another £150(ish) you can have the console too..... just gotta get it past the OH, this "cheap" Sony HD LCD is getting more and more expensive every day!! :p

Well, i guess at least with a ps3 you don't have to put up with nazi microsoft, and also the hardware is more reliable.

Yeah but the 360 is lighter and flatter top and has four pretty lights on the front, hence its a better console

That makes like no sense lol,

Reliable hardware is important, flashing lights aren't

Btw, i have 1 slim and 1 phat ps3, 2 xbox 360 jasper devkits, 2 elites and a premium
It wasn't about which is the better console, its a question of which one works and isn't made by a bunch of nazis :)

Nazi Microsoft? Both as bad as each other, Sony and their proprietery formats and DRM lockdowns over the years.

Both have had hardware problems, both used higher nanometer chipsets that have caused problems overheating and improved by reducing chipset size thus cooler and reliable and less power hungry consoles. However, in Microsofts favour, the only other thing they have changed over the years is adding a HDMI port......

PS3 without Dualshock, PS3 with Dualshock
PS3 with and without SACD
PS3 supporting LPCM only
PS3 supporting bitstream
PS3 with 4 USB ports
PS3 with 2 USB ports
PS3 with backward compatibility
PS3 without backward compatibility
PS3 supporting other OS, PS3 crippling support for other OS

Progress?

Compare Assasins Creed 2 on the PS3 (which has terrible screen tear on movement) to the likes of buying a PS3 with 1 months free games rental and a decent game.

you say the ps3 is over priced, but when you consider all ofthe extras it would take to get an xbox to up to similar capabilities............. and you have to pay for live subscription

You are right, but this was 2 weeks ago! And its an online deal with quid co @ 1.5% at game, free nextday p+p. At the cost of £259.99. Explain where the coldness is there?

You make some good points, but i am talking about the company itself, if it wasn't for law suits, they would stop eveyone installing any other browser than internet explorer on their windows pc, and have everyone being forced to use bing.com.

Also, the way they treat gamers is atrocious, they are treated more like a business than an individual, and most of these gamers are young kids, they just amaze me with their heavy handed crap, such as banning xboxs and wiping gamerscore for people who used a few saves, i mean who cares? there are no prizes or rewards for acheivements, there isn't even an official leaderboard for crying out loud.

Also, finding and abusing a glitch in a game usually means another ban,.... here's an idea microsoft, how about you learn how to code things properly?

when bugs are found on ps3 games, sony just laugh it off and fix it..
#40
Microsoft is not all that bad its made hd game available to the masses pc available to the masses pre-linux....
if you just want a cheap arcade console with some good graphics (my opinion) well then i guess the 360 is a good deal but its more than often that the initial cost of the console is a small part. Im a student and most my mates have an xbox arcade can't afford and don't need anything more powerfull. Ps3 s great for someone how wants an entertainment system with blueray fully complete from the box without needing to buy that accesory or that accesory which doubles the price.

Ps is someone could plz post something explaining what is hapening with homebrews on ps3 that would be good...
