Bought last Wednesday. Receipt image attached.

Cracking deal as I have checked everywhere. Many places don't have any stock but Sony Style had quite a few if you're interested. I recommend calling them in advance and if you know anyone who works at Terminal 5 or who is flying out soon, then you're in luck.

No - if you look it's a 250Gb model - the normal slim is 120Gb.

Yes, it's more or less the tax free price of this deal at Play, strictly speaking it's based on a £267 tax inclusive price but you get the point.

I'm always a little apprehensive about "tax free" airport deals since they're a little too exclusive, a little too similar to buying a PS3 in the US (where they're a lot cheaper) before boarding a flight back to the UK.

I'm not sure how you read mango carrot's question since that's not what they asked.

CHERS MATE! Will let my dad know when he flys out tomorrow. Repped

Heat from me as it is a great price, despite its availability.

Anyone know of any great deals that are not specific to Heathrow?

I need a replacement console as my 60gb broke.

Can't seem to find the 125gb cheaper than £250?

cold from me, because the offer is so limited

You mean cold because you can't get one?;-)

Thanks for the clarification, in which case I can't really see how this is really a deal? I'm possibly being a bit pedanatic but it will be this price at any airport that has a electricals store (most have a dixons for example) and it's just a tax saving that's limited to anyone travelling

There is nothing "abnormal" about the 250GB model other than it was on sale (in the UK) a month after the 120GB was first available (1 September 2009). Both models were developed together &, apart from the integral hard drive, share the same specification

There is a premium in price, but you would expect that for the inclusion of the higher capacity hard drive.

I think cold more from the point of the deal isn't readily available to all.

I must confess that I wasn't aware that you could get tax-free prices through "working" in the tax-free part of an airport as mentioned in the opening post. If thats the case then everyone would get their friends to buy them cigarettes and alcohol. :whistling:

You're welcome, that's my view on airport deals too.

HMV at the same Terminal are the only other airside retailers who stock the PS3. They doing a similar package but at £246.00, but have no stock and cannot guarantee when they will be getting anymore. Look around the net and you will see stock of the 250Gb PS3 is limited, many retailers, high street or online showing no stock.
#15
you wont fond a 125gb anywhere , a 120gb u might ;>

I'm not voting hot or cold on this one, because I think it's too restrictive. I mean I only live 15 minutes from Heathrow but I can't get this deal unless I'm flying. I don't work there or have a rellie who works there.

If you do qualify, there a quite a few decent deals at Heathrow (Timberland clothes for example) but we're not going to start listing all those are we?
#17
If your wife works at T5 how did she not become subject to Tax on your PS3 on her way out??? Was she not searched or did she say she always actually carrying her lunchbox???

We all know that ''Law's'' are not Law's but Statutes GIVEN the force of Law by consent of the Governed.:whistling:
#18
Voted HOT at that price although I agree its not open to everyone, however a lot of deals here are not open to everyone as some are store specific or managers specials at a select store however they reach scorching hot.

I'm flying to Scotland from London and returning to Essex. Can I buy any PS3 deal at the airport without getting stung on the VAT?

B
#19
it would take more than a £50 saving to get me to intentionally go through Heathrow ever again. I wouldn't if they were giving them away!!!!

I've had the misfortune of 4 flight connections at Heathrow and all have been horrendous... never again.

much rather fly via a European airline with a stop at their "local" airport.

If you set up a "limited coy" you can buy a PS3 and claim the VAT back!!! wooh deal time lol!!!

I believe you can only get items tax free or reclaim VAT if you're flying from or to a destination outside of Europe. So no, I don't think you can get the PS3 deal without VAT but i might be wrong!

If VAT was being charged on the console at Heathrow T5, and the purchase was solely for use by your Limited Company in the pursuit of business activities, then yes you could.

However, the costs of setting up a Limited Company, and maintaining it (with Accountancy fees at least every 12 months) would mean the "saving" would be spent many times over.

This deal is not that limited, remember the OP's wife works in terminal 5 *Wink Wink. Buy it over the phone and she will collect it for you.

This deal is open to anyone travelling through the terminal or anyone that happens to work in the terminal. I don't know why I bothered to post this, now we are being branded as criminals. If you prefer I shall just simply ask for deal to be removed.

They usually check your boarding pass at the cashier to confirm if you are flying out of the EU before they give it to u tax free. might be worth asking around at the airport all the same.

I don't think you do need to travel outside of the UK. I bought a Walkman MP3 and speaker dock from the Sony Style shop last month whilst travelling on a return from Newcastle and I paid the tax free price - plus a bit of extra discount - always worth asking:)

I agree. Do we really need hukd overtaken with airside only deals where 15% is knocked off the high street price? Nearly on a par with the littlewoods voucher deals that plague this site.

Just my tuppence worth :-D

you got lucky. Your boarding pass should have prevented any VAT discount.

They don't really take off the VAT. They just reduce the ticket price by about 17.5% and call it taking off the VAT. There is still a VAT amount on the receipt - the OP was doing nothing illegal, or else everyone buying in Heathrow departure lounges would be a crook. (I used to be able to deduct the real VAT as well by claiming for DVDs and games - I am in the media business. But the paperwork is not worth the saving.)

And yes the shop assistants always ask for your boarding pass - even when you are buying a sodding paper in WH Smith! You can always say 'Oh, my wife's got it -- I'm on the 3:30 to Belfast' or some such and they usually enter the flight no for you.

But without a boarding pass you won't be in the departure lounge anyway - unless you work there. Which brings me back to my earlier point. I'm not begrudging the OP his good fortune on getting a great deal, I'm just saying it doesn't deserve to be voted that hot, because most people won't qualify for it. Or are we going to start posting the sort of deals staff members can get in Blockbuster or Game or John Lewis or...?

Due to some of the comment's posted by some, I feel compelled to make the following points.

I apologise to everyone who can't take advantage of this deal and voted it cold. If I was to do the same to every deal that is store specific or regional posted on HUKD then I would have little time to do anything else.

I clearly stated in my description that this was available to T5 travellers or staff. If you are not travelling or don't know anyone that works there, then I again apologise, but why so bitter? I posted this deal in order to help those that can take advantage of it, no other reason. I reitierate that nothing underhand or untoward has happened here. Airline employees at the terminal can take advantage of airside shops, (they cannot purchase Duty Free cigs, booze or scent) but can shop at stores offering other wares, they can even earn loyalty points - Worldpoints

FYI, sonystyle.co.uk has this package listed online at £241.70 ex VAT (£284.00 inc VAT).
So at £220.43 inc VAT, it does represent a deal, regardless of where it's available.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Chill out.
#36
That's very cheap for a 250GB PS3 with Uncharted.

The fact it's limited in availability doesn't make it cold, it makes it more likely someone can get one.

If they're going through Heathrow.

Bless you lot for getting upset over not being able to pick one up. If someone gets it for this price, it's a great deal :)

a lot deals here get posted for shops that aren't near where i live. just because i can't get to the deal doesn't mean it doesn't represents good value for a lot of people who can. there are many deals here that only exists exclusively in the north of england or northern ireland which are out of bounds (doesn't justify the travelling cost) to southerners and vice versa.

furthermore, these sort deals on ps3 seem to be more or less permanent (the ps3 hmv offer at heathrow has been around for well over a year) - hence they are pretty releveant because a large population travel through heathrow through the course of a year. some superhot deals hit here only exists for a fleeting moment to a very few number of buyers - at least these sort of deals are available all year to a large number of potential customers.

(66 million people travel thru heathrow a year.. it's fair to say that a lot of them will be uk passengers enroute domestically or travelling to europe - or even beyond the eu if the want to take the ps3 with them)
#38
Mispost. Should have been put on www.hotheathrowdeals.com

Don't be too mesmerised by the hard drive (HDD) sizes, if you pick up one with a lower capacity you can upgrade the HDD yourself with a 320GB or 500GB HDD from Amazon for £43 or £56.
Its a very easy procedure, thats even described in the PS3 manual. The old HDD won't go to waste, just buy a £5-£10 2.5 sata enclosure and you can use it as a backup drive.
#40
Airport deals are pointless, first of all you need a ticket to fly if you havent got that then you need a staff airside pass or know someone that works there.

I used to work at Heathrow but have never posted a Heathrow deal simply because it is not available to the masses.

At least with a store specific deal you have the offchance of finding the same deal at another store or getting it price matched.
