Yes the slim is cheaper to make so that will replace this model.
#5
No doubt they are. And the optical port has been axes on the slim
#6
does it play blu rays like the ps3?

yes

The slim model is more power efficient, generates less heat and therefore the fans are a lot less like a jet engine! :D

Slightly wrong, the slim is quieter but still runs just as hot as the original.

I have a white PS4, but I quite like the look of the new slim. Pretty sure I'm the only one who does! X)

I'm sorely tempted to bite at this. Though I think I'll hold out and hope for a cheaper one to come along before Christmas. Pity about the Sainsbury's glitch not working out.

what is the significance of the optical output?

£200 should be the price for the old model 1TB

what is the significance of the optical output?

It means specific headsets and other audio gear will probably not be compatible with the PS4 Slim, I think the PS4 pro will still have optical out

I think this is a brill' price - decided to sell my white one for a black one a day prior to Sony announcing the slim - flogged the white one but slim announcement left me confused regarding slim or original. Went with slim purely for fact its the newer of the two so thought give new design a go and thinking of future 2nd hand resale (as soon as Xmas potentially if i decide to get the pro). Got slim + fifa 17 on order with Very (£210 after account credit deal + will sell Fifa, so prob' £180 buy cost) BUT am sorely tempted to buy this original one now. Think original design is better but do not think that will mean re-sale value will hold as well. Still a hot-UK-deal from me. I wonder how cheap a black 1tb C-chassis will get...

Updated this thread last night £199 for 500GB and £229 for 1TB

With no games they still seem more expensive than a bundle with latest releases

I've been reading and reading and reading as well as watching regarding the new PS4's and can't think of any reason you'd want to get a slightly thinner PS4. The "lower power consumption" is apparently a non-event because the original never reached the maximum power draw in the first place. (_;)

As for the last chance to get hold of one - incredibly unlikely. Replaced they might be, but it's hardly a challenge getting hold of a PS3 - you're not going to struggle getting hold of one of these.

It will be hard to get this model once stock dries up for a Brand new one.Like the ps3 slim did once the super slim came out.Alot of people prefered the slim due to build quality on the ps3.

Im in a bit of a quandary. i was holding out on buying a new console until the prices had come down a bit. Now i'm not sure if I should get the old ps4, new ps4 slim or wait several months for the ps4.5! >_<

Yeah too much choice isnt always the best.I was all for the ps4 pro until i saw it lol it just looks terrible to me and i really wanted it to have a 4K bluray player as im really into films. In the end i went with the Xbox One S deal as i have a ps4 original already that im happy with.

Thats gonna depend what you want from it, if your happy with 1080p gaming and not into the VR thing grab a slim, if you've got a 4k tv or wanna dabble with VR then either wait or buy a slim and sell it on in a few months.

Good advice! I dont have a 4K tv yet, but its next on my upgrade list. VR on PS4 I think its too early to say until i've actually played it hands on. I'll review the situation at christmas! lol

If there's something you want to play right now then get a slim but if you can wait and have the budget then I'd recommend you get the Pro, not because of 4K but simply it will be the best experience at 1080p.
There's also nothing stooping you from just buying the current PS4 and trading it in when the Pro comes out.

If this came with a game, I'd likely buy. I always said £200 with a game was my buy point.

anyone got one here yet?, reliable?, latest SKU?

I have used Simply games many times and they are great.I had a problem with a game a while back and they swapped it next day.The ps4 on sale here is SKU CUH-1216a.

Only the console itself (and moreso the old model) without any games for £200 whilst Xbox One Slim deals can be had for £200ish. I know it's two different markets but this feels more for less.

PS4 isn't backward compatible with ps3 games is it, or the new upcoming one?

it will come with games... seeing as you have to pay to play online you get the free ps+ games each month

Same model refurbished is £30 more from them!

Good deal, just to note if this is the model which came out last summer then the fan noise and power consumption is much better then the original. You'll know if it was last years because it does not have touch sensitive buttons. Just as good as the slim and much better looking!

I don't see why this is an issue - who with an original PS4 is going to upgrade to the slim (which has no optical out) when it's practically the same, just smaller, rather than the Pro (which does)?

HELP! My kids want the VR for Xmas, They need a PS4 as they only have a PS3, which one should I get to go with the VR? Would it be better to go for the Pro or will anyone give the same performance? I've tried googling it and I'm just getting more confused!x

I don't see what the slim offers over the bog standard c-chassis PS4 so I wouldn't pay any more for it. The Xbox One S is a worthwhile buy for a few extra quid over the original console because of how gross the original was/is. But the original PS4 looks ok, doesn't take up too much space.

Meant to say a standard PS4, although the slim looks good and it does have 5Ghz Wifi that some people might like I still preffer the original version and wouldn't trade it for my beautiful MGS 5 limited edition PS4.

Huh?
It generates less heat therefore needs to be cooled less by the fans to reach the same temperature.
